Here are 4 of our day train dogs enjoying some play time. We hand pick play partners to ensure similar play styles and sociability. Not every breed or dog enjoys the same style of play. It's important they are matched appropriately to keep everyone safe and happy. These 4 enjoy rough and tumble play and are perfectly matched for each other.
Remember, not every dog enjoys playing with others. Teaching your dog to be calm around other dogs and not getting overly excited, scared, or reactive is how to properly socialize your dog. A social dog that is barking, jumping, and pulling towards other dogs in excitement is not properly socialized.
6 puppies and their owners dedicated to teaching their puppies to walk appropriately on leash around distraction.
This is just 1 of the many life lessons we cover in our Puppy Life Skills class.
You can register your puppy for this class or one of our other group classes on our website.
We also have many private training options if you would like a more one on one approach.

A few rambunctious youngers who attend our day train program. These 3 were working on impulse control with added distraction.
Look at those happy tails!
In this video, Rebecca is working a dog named Grizz. It is his first day of day training and he is transitioning to using positive reinforcement to help modify his dog and people reactivity. We chose to fit Grizz with a halti as well as a front clip harness to give 2 points of contact. This allows for more control in an over threshold situation and help to redirect the dog away from the trigger. During this session, Rebecca is introducing LAT (Look At That) to help him learn that dogs nearby can be a positive thing. When using LAT, it is important to keep the dogs under threshold, which means adding enough distance where the dogs feel comfortable and doesnt need to react. When Grizz looks at the other dog, she marks it with a yes (or clicker) and uses the food lure to turn his attention away from the other dog and rewards. We want Grizz to associate dogs with positive things but also learn when he sees a dog, he can turn away vs lunging forward.
As the session progressed, we were able to add more motion as well as decrease the distance between dogs. If at any moment, the dog became agitated, we would immediately back up to increase distance and keep the dog under threshold.
This method of training works to modify the dogs underlying emotional response to the trigger.
1 hour of place work with our day trains condensed into 1 minute.
Place work is fabulous to build impulse control around other dogs and/or people. We recommend teaching it for situations where you need to create control and distance with your dog. Making or eating food, when guests come over, or if your dog struggles with settling on their own and needs a little help are all common situations where a place behavior can be helpful.
A place could be a dog bed, a mat, an area of the house such as a stair landing or a raised bed like we are using here.
Did you get a Covid puppy? You are not alone!
Socialization and training are just as important despite covid social distancing.
Set your puppy up for success and enroll in a puppy class. The class is for you to learn how to effectively train your puppy as well socialize your puppy during these challenging times.
If your dog needs a bit extra socializing, we also have weekly drop off puppy socialization classes.
