Gypsy is a 2 year old sweetheart who originally came to see us because she wasn’t feeling very well, hiding from her mom, not eating, and vomiting.
Upon physically examination the doctor noticed Gypsy had a fever and a very sore abdomen so bloodwork and radiographs were recommended.
The bloodwork revealed she had a severe infection and the radiographs showed an enlarged uterus. With all the information together the doctor was able to narrow the problem down to Pyometra.
Pyometra is a life-threatening infection in the uterus. A uterus with Pyometra will become inflamed and distended with bacteria and pus which is painful for the pet. The best way to make sure your female cat or dog never experiences this is to get them fixed! It’s infections like this that make us say just how important it is to get your pets fixed.
The fastest and most guarantied way to fix Gypsy’s problem was to spay her (take the uterus out) so she wasn’t in pain anymore. She has since fully recovered and we are so glad to see her doing so well 🩷
