I will be sexing again soon since they are still so little, but it’s looking like 3 chestnut does, an otter doe and a chestnut buck. 🥰

🛑✋

This page is taking photos from real breeders and posting as their own available rabbits. Take a peak and you might find your own on there. I’ve seen a couple pictures I’ve recognized.

I’ve reported the page and specific post. I’ve also asked they remove the post but I’m now blocked. 🙃

Someone is a little eager lol. Only on day 24, but Atla was given her box early because she enjoys hanging out on top and doesn’t misuse it. Fingers crossed for some more show stoppers 🤞🏼✨

Well my post is coming a bit later due to spending the day getting everyone cleaned and settled, but the rabbits come first!

Huge shoutout first to E.A.R.S. - Edmonton & Area Rabbit Society and all the volunteers for hosting a great spring show. 🌸 This was our first time having the opportunity to attend the Wild Rose Classic in Bruderheim and we really enjoyed ourselves. While the two triples was a bit taxing for the hares, we came out of it with some wonderful comments and great wins. Another giant thank you to the judges. Thank you for showing my animals patience, thank you for taking the time to give me some additional tips, tricks and answering my questions and thank you for confirming that my years of hard work and dedication to this breed is paying off.

I want to send out a big congratulations to all the other exhibitors this weekend on their wins. A special shoutout to my bestie over at Saltwater Rabbitry who I know was just beaming inside with every comment and win (whether she showed it or not lol). To Prairie Valley Rabbitry on all of her wins as well, to Hilltop Rabbitry on her wins and attending her second show with a bunch of her own grow outs, and to Lunar Moon Rabbitry. on all of her big ribbon wins with her new recent breed venture.

A wonderful little shoutout to Top Lop Rabbitry and their young entrepreneurs providing the cutest and most well made rabbit toys! The petites love them. 💕

I also want to apologize to anyone I traumatized with my PMR feeding at the campground. ☠️

How exciting is this! Maddison and Matilda were grandbuns to us, out of (formerly Hunters Acres) Bentley and a doe of LaTaya’s own breeding. 🥰

Well our first show (in spirit lol) was a success! Again a big thanks to Ashley at Lunar Moon Rabbitry. for taking the time to FaceTime me during my breed showings and for keeping me updated the whole weekend.

The weekend was a big one for my girl Wicca and I’m so excited! She was my chosen keeper from the beginning and it reassures me that sometimes I still know what I’m doing 😅 But I’m excited to get these kids on the table a bit more this year! We also have another litter we are expecting. This will be a repeat breeding and I’m hoping to see the same quality I did this time around 🤞🏼

Sadly due to an unexpected turn of events, we were not able to physically attend the WNRC but getting my rabbits on the table was my number one priority! Big thank you to our friends over at Lunar Moon Rabbitry. for hauling everyone up that way and video chatting with us during judging.

Since the hare siblings are currently living in pairs and I feel the 32” of height in the kennels is so empty, we are working on getting shelves built for everyone. ♥️

Fillory’s “Blood Oath”

Breed: Belgian Hare
DOB: December 2, 2023
Variety: Rufus
S*x: Buck
Location: Edmonton, AB

This sweet boy is looking for a new adventure! Our first generation of offspring under our new Fillory name, his lineage is heavily Hunters Acres on his paternal line. He is being sold as pet only. He will leave tattooed, with transition feed and a birth certificate. All of my rabbits to pet families, go on contract.

This handsome guy just doesn’t offer a lot to my program going forward. He is heavier b***d than I’d like, which also leans me towards the expectation that he may mature on the larger side of the breed (8-9lbs). His colour is wonderful and he has beautiful dark ear lacing but his coat itself at this point is undesirable. He is otherwise a very happy and healthy guy but his brothers at this time are showing more promising qualities. Raised indoors, he is accustomed to dogs and the hustle and bustle of daily life. I have had him in a harness and taken him out in the car. While I wouldn’t consider him “harness trained” so to speak, he is tolerant and doesn’t fight it lol. Please keep in mind, this is not a breed I would consider for young children. Older children or none would be best.

Belgian Hares are considered the smartest rabbit breed. They are full arch and bred for fancy (show), but in the years I’ve bred and raised them I’ve found that they can make wonderful pets. Though known for their nervousness, they are also mischievous and personable. As per the typical breed personality, hares tend to have lower tolerance which can lead to them coming across as temperamental. This varies across the breed and needs to be respected and understood. For those familiar with or aware of what to expect, the Belgian Hare makes a sweet, quirky, lively and unique companion.

*Fun fact! Beatrix Potter’s stories were inspired by her real life pet rabbits, Peter Piper and Benjamin Bouncer. Both of whom were Belgian Hares. ♥️*

After playing with the hares, the petites had a turn out for nail trims and some posing practice. A lot of people aren’t familiar with the breed and if they haven’t seen them in person, it’s hard to get a grasp on how small they are in photos. That said, someone asked me to use something for reference so here is Draco next to a coffee mug ☕️ and Fenwick just cause he’s cute 🖤

The kids are growing up! 🥹

I did a once over when they were younger but nothing really excited me. Hares can take forever to mature. Now 13 weeks and I’m really seeing a lot more promise in them. I should have a few available when the time comes to cut down, but for now they will just keep growing until we hit the show tables! Our hotel is booked for the WNRC Valleyview show next month!

Now the fun part, names!

*pictured are a couple bucks and a doe, had a lot of sassy uncooperative babies this morning so grabbed photos of what we could 😅*

Our new order of cages arrived this evening! Though we have no one to house in them yet, I couldn’t wait to get everything setup. 😅 I’ve opted for the smaller version for bucks and future grow outs.

I’m excited to see these filled with more petites soon! Fingers crossed Ely gives us a few prospects on Sunday🤞🏼

Whitney Grace over at Saltwater Rabbitry has listened to me go on and on for the longest time, about wanting a black petite. Well a few weeks ago, without my knowledge, Whitney reached out to Amelie at Clapier Des Merveilles - CDM' Rabbitry & Chinchillas about a black doe she may have available and purchased her for me as a surprise! 😭

Sadly, Whitney had to disclose the surprise so I could arrange the flight (that she also paid for!) 😂🖤 but I am SO thankful to have such an amazing best friend. I was in tears and have impatiently waited weeks for her to arrive! She’s finally home now and getting settled but I’m still just in such awe over this gift. I really can’t thank Whitney enough and, as always, a big thank you to Amelie for working with us and being so accommodating. This hobby wouldn’t be what it is for me without the people I have.

Introducing CDM’ CHLA1 - “Zila”

02/23/2024

Have you ever met someone that likes to put others down to make themselves look good? This is something that you will see from time to time in ANY animal breeding or showing group.

Do you know the type?

Listen.

With rabbits, I have purchased a bad apple or two. Or three. Or four… in the past. But unless the breeder knowingly wronged me, you will not find that kind of behavior on my page.

I get it - there ARE situations where calling out bad behavior can be acceptable. Maybe you’ve been scammed. Maybe someone is selling “purebreds” and they know they’re not pure, but they continue to be dishonest about it to their buyers. Maybe someone lied to you about how much a certain rabbit weighs. Maybe they lied about lineage or show wins. In these instances, I find it acceptable to call them to attention, first in private, and if they aren’t willing to listen, then maybe it calls for an escalated reaction.

But otherwise…
Let’s be kind to each other.
Let’s not be petty.

Most problems and relationships can be worked out by talking with the breeder and coming to an understanding.

A year and a half ago I sold a rabbit and the owners came back to me later saying their buck had extreme aggression. I felt horrible! I told them to cull that rabbit immediately, and I set them up with a new buck for free. This was back when I failed to cull for aggression issues like I do now. I learned from the experience and worked it out with my buyers. There was no name calling, and no one tried to cancel me online. For that I am grateful!! And I have learned to extend the same grace to others.

The fact is, most breeders actually ARE trying their best. But maybe they have failed to see importance where you see it. Maybe their rabbits are really balanced, but lack weight gain. Maybe you buy a nice rabbit from someone but for some reason the offspring are throwing kits with mismarks. Bring it to their attention, but let’s not accuse people of sabotage or bad breeding practices. Let’s WORK TOGETHER and come to a resolution. I realize that this is idealistic, but it is so much better and less stressful than hostility.

The bottom line is, since I’ve been breeding and showing in my adulthood this is something that I see here and there, both online and at shows. And while I understand the frustration of not getting what you wanted, a little kindness goes a long way.

Let’s be kind to one another.
Let’s learn and grow with one another 🧡

Little Elowyn 🖤

I was hoping to have spring babies to show this year, but Ely didn’t take the last time we bred her. She successfully rebred with Fenwick 2 weeks ago and she’s been digging off and on. Hoping she took and we get some petites of our own to grow out! In the meantime we are just anxiously waiting. 🙈

Coming from someone who runs a very small herd, this presentation was super informative! For anyone running a limited number of holes, I highly suggest giving it a watch. I definitely plan to implement a lot of this moving forward and when evaluating my own program and goals.

They say when you love something, let it go. If it's meant to be, it will come back to you.

Letting the hares go left a void and while so many amazing life changes came my way (newly engaged!), there was still a quiet sadness that lingered. I'm sure it sounds so silly to some, after all, they are 'just' rabbits 😉 but those in the rabbit community will understand that grief. The hares had become a part of me and rehoming them was like losing an integral part of myself.

Here we are, what feels a little like a lifetime later, and they have made their way home. I want to give the largest thank you I possibly can to LaTaya May for essentially "babysitting" for me and making the trip up to meet on the weekend. I know as happy as she is that the hares are back with me, this is bittersweet for her as well. I am so elated to start this journey again with both old and new faces🐇

That said, as some may have noticed, I am starting fresh and with that comes a new name! All previously produced animals will retain the prefix 'Hunters Acres' but moving forward, all rabbits will begin with the prefix 'Fillory's'.

Here's to change, at Hares of Fillory!

We are members of the American Rabbit Breeders Association as well as the American Belgian Hare Club. All of our animals are pedigree.
