Buddy would like to send out the biggest thank you to Sumit Das for a generous contribution toward his neurology consult. He will be getting his blood retested this weekend to see how his levels are and we’ll be following up with a neurologist consult to establish a plan for his medication and needs.
It is amazing to see how lively he is with his new medication and wonderful to see the smile on his face again.
Thank you Sumit! I think this will help Buddy get back on track.

Buddy (formerly Bao) was returned into care because he has been having seizures. He is currently at Guardian getting things checked out. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. He’s the best boy and we are doing all we can to help him get this under control.
Just look at his happy face in spite of having just had a seizure just moments ago. 🥹

When you adopt a pet, it is important to prepare for medical emergencies and conditions that can develop. Our furry friends deserve to have their medical needs met so they can live a good quality of life.

Izzy update! She had her surgery yesterday and a dental too. The stone that was causing her so many issues was this huge, single stone! Can you believe its size?! Izzy is a tiny girl and everyone was shocked to see how big it was. What a relief, huh Izzy!
Her surgery came with a price tag. If you are interested in supporting her, Paws at Play Dog Daycare is currently doing a Christmas photo fundraiser to help pay for this bill. Please contact them by text at 780-993-7297 to book your dog’s pictures. Sessions are $30 per pet and can be booked by time slot on weekends.

Rescue Story: Returned into care when his family had kids because he wasn't getting the attention he needed.

Good with Kids? I would prefer kids over 7yrs as I can sometimes knock over toddlers accidentally
Good with Dogs? Yes! I love playing with other dogs! I would enjoy having another dog in my family who enjoys engaging in play.
Good with Cats? I haven't been around lots of cats so likely yes with the right cat.
House trained? YES!
Grooming needs: Brushing and nail trims. I shed but I don't need fancy haircuts.

Hi! My name is Duke.
I came into care originally because my owner passed away, but recently I was returned because I require too much attention. My people mean so much to me since I lost my first human. My most recent family had kids and they were finding that I was stressed with getting less attention from them. I have been very loved my whole life and you can tell because I love to snuggle, I know all about treats, and I love to play.
My foster mom tells me I’m da best boy in the world. Before I was adopted I loved going to daycare. I was always really good with other dogs there. Recently I was very stressed with my family and they said that I had some altercations meeting other dogs but since I've been returned, I haven't had any issues. It might be because I was stressed in my previous home and didn't want to share my humans. I love playing with my foster sister and other dogs that I've met so far. I'll be reassessed at daycare soon since they haven't seen me in a while and I'm excited to see some of my old pals!

I think its important that I find an active family who has time to spend with me! I sometimes need some reassurance with new places and new things. My world has changed a lot over the years and a little reassurance are all I need to find the courage to explore new things.

So what do you think? Would you have room in your home and in your heart for me? I promise to be your absolute best friend. I'll be your number 1 fan. I'll make you feel more loved than Taylor Swift in one of her sold out Eras Tour concerts. Now, if you are ready to be loved with my whole heart, fill out an adoption application and let's meet!

Duke has been returned into care to no fault of his own. He is a loving boy who craves the company of his family. He was returned because his family was unable to give him the attention he deserved. If you are looking for a good boy and a loyal companion, Consider adopting Duke. He is good with other animals and older kids. He is good with little kids, just can knock them over by accident.

His photo was from his return day. Breaks our hearts to see him so sad.

Albertans should not tolerate such casual comments about abusing animals. It is extremely concerning that people in positions of power do not seem to have the compassion or understanding required to make responsible decisions and implement productive and humane programs to control the pet population. Please share and take a stand against these careless and cruel politicians.

Like many of you, we are in shock after Fort Saskatchewan’s Mayor Gale Katchur detailed awful ways to kill feral cats during a council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Mayor Katchur suggested that residents “deal with” the cats themselves, rather than relying on the municipality.

“JUST PUT THEM ON EXHAUST PIPES”

“When it comes to feral cats, it would be cruel to say, but it would be interesting if people could deal with them themselves, I’m going to say like in the old days when you lived on the farm. Now be careful, because when you lived on the farm, if there was cats, you threw them in a bag and threw them in a river, or they just put them on the exhaust pipes” Mayor Katchur said, chuckling.

COUNCILLOR BRIAN KELLY IN FAVOUR OF KILLING FERAL CATS: “I VOLUNTEER, OKAY?”

One of four feral cat management strategies presented by Fort Saskatchewan city staff would involve a 72-hour hold, then euthanasia. A peace officer noted the psychological harm to staff who would be forced to routinely kill healthy animals.

”If, in fact, it’s a psychological damage to a staff member, get another staff member,” Councillor Brian Kelly scoffed. “And if you have trouble getting a staff member, I will give you my phone number. I volunteer, okay?”

ALBERTA STANDS AGAINST ANIMAL CRUELTY AND KILLING

The actions described by Mayor Katchur are animal cruelty and chargeable offenses under the Animal Protection Act and/or Criminal Code of Canada. As an animal rescue organization that advocates for the humane care of feral cats, we are appalled to see Alberta’s elected officials making such callous, cruel comments.

We strongly advise that the City of Fort Saskatchewan implement a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program, which was one of the options presented to council. We also call for Mayor Katchur and Councillor Kelly to resign from their roles immediately, as they do not share the values of Alberta’s compassionate citizens, and they did not govern themselves professionally as elected officials.

COMMENT “LETTER” BELOW and we will send you a form letter you can use to contact Mayor Katchur, Councillor Kelly, and/or the City of Fort Saskatchewan.

We can’t accept cruelty, and we won’t.

Gender: Male
Age:10 years (approx in 2023)
Breed: Domestic Short Hair

Rescue Story: Owner Surrender

Good with Dogs?: I would do best as an only cat but would be ok with a really calm dog who doesn't chase.
Good with Cats?: I would do best as an only cat
Good with Kids?: Older kids for me due to my age

Hello I am Lando! I may look like a big black panther, but in reality I am a big love bug. I love my belly scratches and will stretch out for them. I love being pet and will purr from the love! I like to drink out of the taps and laze in the sunbeams. I am ok with kids as long as they come to me slowly, but I would prefer older, quieter kids. I love that red dot and will try to catch it, Lazer Tag Fanatic! I also love my rope toy or any long toy, I chase it & will drag it around. I love to sleep in my new foster mom's bed and try to catch her fingers under the blanket. I love to snuggle close all night! I am a chonky boi who could use some slimming up. I am litter box trained. I like to follow you wherever you go & keep you company! I am very dependent on "my person". I also like to talk to you! Meow! If you are looking for an older dapper man who just wants to love & be loved apply for me today!

**Medical** I do have chronic eye issues. All that is required is cleaning/wiping and dust free litter

About us!

Paws In Need Animal Rescue Society is a small, non-profit, animal rescue in the Edmonton and Calgary area. We rescue stray, homeless animals from many different situations. All of our rescues are brought into foster homes where they are rehabilitated whether it be for health reasons, training, or some much needed TLC before they are available for adoption into their forever homes. We believe all animals, young and old deserve a second chance. Paws In Need Animal Rescue is run solely by volunteers and through community support of fundraising, donations, and volunteers we are able to care for animals while they are with Paws In Need Animal Rescue Society, and on the road to recovery and their forever homes. We are also a force free rescue and use only force free training with all of our animals!
