Terry and Mousse are perplexed as to why they have not received ANY APPLICATIONS! These boys are sweet and loving, a wonderful pair of gentlemen! They would love to be truly home before the holidays. For that reason, we are reducing their adoption fee to $450 for the pair in hopes it will help to gain some interest. Please SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! Someone is out there who needs these guys in their lives. Is it you?

Albertans should not tolerate such casual comments about abusing animals. It is extremely concerning that people in positions of power do not seem to have the compassion or understanding required to make responsible decisions and implement productive and humane programs to control the pet population. Please share and take a stand against these careless and cruel politicians.

Like many of you, we are in shock after Fort Saskatchewan’s Mayor Gale Katchur detailed awful ways to kill feral cats during a council meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Mayor Katchur suggested that residents “deal with” the cats themselves, rather than relying on the municipality.

“JUST PUT THEM ON EXHAUST PIPES”

“When it comes to feral cats, it would be cruel to say, but it would be interesting if people could deal with them themselves, I’m going to say like in the old days when you lived on the farm. Now be careful, because when you lived on the farm, if there was cats, you threw them in a bag and threw them in a river, or they just put them on the exhaust pipes” Mayor Katchur said, chuckling.

COUNCILLOR BRIAN KELLY IN FAVOUR OF KILLING FERAL CATS: “I VOLUNTEER, OKAY?”

One of four feral cat management strategies presented by Fort Saskatchewan city staff would involve a 72-hour hold, then euthanasia. A peace officer noted the psychological harm to staff who would be forced to routinely kill healthy animals.

”If, in fact, it’s a psychological damage to a staff member, get another staff member,” Councillor Brian Kelly scoffed. “And if you have trouble getting a staff member, I will give you my phone number. I volunteer, okay?”

ALBERTA STANDS AGAINST ANIMAL CRUELTY AND KILLING

The actions described by Mayor Katchur are animal cruelty and chargeable offenses under the Animal Protection Act and/or Criminal Code of Canada. As an animal rescue organization that advocates for the humane care of feral cats, we are appalled to see Alberta’s elected officials making such callous, cruel comments.

We strongly advise that the City of Fort Saskatchewan implement a trap-neuter-return (TNR) program, which was one of the options presented to council. We also call for Mayor Katchur and Councillor Kelly to resign from their roles immediately, as they do not share the values of Alberta’s compassionate citizens, and they did not govern themselves professionally as elected officials.

COMMENT “LETTER” BELOW and we will send you a form letter you can use to contact Mayor Katchur, Councillor Kelly, and/or the City of Fort Saskatchewan.

We can’t accept cruelty, and we won’t.

Name: Lando
Gender: Male
Age:10 years (approx in 2023)
Breed: Domestic Short Hair

Rescue Story: Owner Surrender

Good with Dogs?: I would do best as an only cat but would be ok with a really calm dog who doesn't chase.
Good with Cats?: I would do best as an only cat
Good with Kids?: Older kids for me due to my age

Hello I am Lando! I may look like a big black panther, but in reality I am a big love bug. I love my belly scratches and will stretch out for them. I love being pet and will purr from the love! I like to drink out of the taps and laze in the sunbeams. I am ok with kids as long as they come to me slowly, but I would prefer older, quieter kids. I love that red dot and will try to catch it, Lazer Tag Fanatic! I also love my rope toy or any long toy, I chase it & will drag it around. I love to sleep in my new foster mom's bed and try to catch her fingers under the blanket. I love to snuggle close all night! I am a chonky boi who could use some slimming up. I am litter box trained. I like to follow you wherever you go & keep you company! I am very dependent on "my person". I also like to talk to you! Meow! If you are looking for an older dapper man who just wants to love & be loved apply for me today!

**Medical** I do have chronic eye issues. All that is required is cleaning/wiping and dust free litter

HI! We would like to introduce you to the Dessert Duo - (Chocolate) Mousse & Terry (Tiramisu). Don't cha just love dessert? They are bonded brothers who are best friends. They had to depend on each other in their life before they came to Paws in Need. Their kennel is their happy place and favorite space to chill out. No worries kenneling them during the day while you are out or during the night. They are very dog social, it's just humans that they can be cautious around but settle down fast.

Mousse is light brow/apricot in colour.

Mousse is fun loving and such a sweet heart. He is a people pleaser who just wants to be next to you. He loves camping, adventuring and playing with other dogs but especially Terry. He looks after his brother and is never very far from him. He can be shy when first meeting new human friends but warms up fast.

Terry is light grey/dark brown in colour

Terry is timid until he trusts you, this can take a bit of time but if Mousse likes you, so will Terry. Terry just wants to be loved but his anxiety can sometimes get in the way. Time, patience and treats are the key. He looks to his brother for ques throughout the day. He loves to snuggle up against you to have naps or just to be close by. He loves camping, walks, adventuring and lots of assurance that he's a good boy.

If you are looking for low-calorie treats, the double D’s (Dessert Duo) are your guys.

Salter is still enjoying the snow. We’re looking forward to warmer temperatures in the forecast and hoping that these snow days are almost behind us. For now, we’ll enjoy the goofy moments we get with our furry friends as they frolic in the snow.

Pippin is one of our Paws in Need Alumni and he is currently competing for America’s Favourite Pet in order to win the jackpot to donate it to ARTS Senior Animal Rescue. He is 9 years old now and has a heart condition and so he really wants to support senior animals who are in care and need specialized care. Can you take a moment each day to help him win and do some good? We hope you will!

Way to go, Pippin!

Pippin is one of a kind! He’s got so much personality and I can’t imagine life without him. He’s loyal, playful, and bossy in the best way.

Jacquie is a 6-year-old Collie X with a ton of playful energy. She does well with confident cats and has been making great improvements greeting other dogs, but would do best in a place with no other dogs. Jacquie will adore her human but has some anxiety when her human leaves the house and it may take her a while to relax in a new environment, but when she does she won’t leave your side, especially if she is welcome on the bed. She has been working with a dog walker and is great on leash.

For Jacquie, playing ball is her favorite activity by far and she will eagerly bring it back (almost) all of the time. She loves to learn and catches on quickly to new skills. Overall Jacquie would make a great companion for anyone looking to have an adventure buddy who loves them unconditionally.

Jacquie is currently searching for a foster home that will suit her needs. Her profile will be updated soon. She is looking for a nice relaxing home, with lots of opportunity to engage in mental stimulation. She loves walks and has great leash manners. Meeting new people can be a little scary for her. She is not destructive, is super smart, and loves to sleep near her person. She is a loyal companion who is looking for someone who can be her bestie. Is it you?

Update: there have been a few applications for Chloe & Dodger. They have meets arranged over the next 2 weeks and we’ll update on how that goes. Wish them luck!

Chloe & Dodger are the youngest acting seniors we know. As you can see, life is a party with them. It breaks our hearts that they get applications only to get passed up because they have allergies and they are seniors. I mean, they are beautiful cuties, great with people, good for the vet and groomers, play at daycare, they are lovely on walks, with a routine they are well house trained, they don’t wreck things in the house, and they are just silly little sweeties. I know they are seniors. I know that comes with extra expenses, but they are pretty wonderful. I’m so sad so many people can’t see their worth. They deserve to live out their golden years being someone’s babies.

Their foster family sure aren’t complaining about being the lucky ones to get to love them for now. We all just hope that someone special out there can see their spunky personalities and give them their happily ever after.

About us!

Paws In Need Animal Rescue Society is a small, non-profit, animal rescue in the Edmonton and Calgary area. We rescue stray, homeless animals from many different situations. All of our rescues are brought into foster homes where they are rehabilitated whether it be for health reasons, training, or some much needed TLC before they are available for adoption into their forever homes. We believe all animals, young and old deserve a second chance. Paws In Need Animal Rescue is run solely by volunteers and through community support of fundraising, donations, and volunteers we are able to care for animals while they are with Paws In Need Animal Rescue Society, and on the road to recovery and their forever homes. We are also a force free rescue and use only force free training with all of our animals!
