First up for our first HPS SPOTLIGHTS discussion is Socializing: Is your pup ready to mingle?

Socializing our pups/dogs is one of the most important things we can do to keep them happy and healthy! It’s all about introducing them to new experiences, people, and places so they can learn how to interact with the world around them.

Socialization can actually be really fun, and it’s a great way to bond with them, too! Following are the most common opportunities for socializing our pups/dogs:

- Puppy Play Dates
- Interactive play
- Enrichment Toys

Let’s think about and discuss our experiences of socialization and hopefully discover and learn more about enrichment toys, local neighborhood safety, and how to carefully introduce our pups/dogs to new people and environments.

Ouzo’s successful results of the HPS Basics Training

Ouzo recently completed our HPS Puppy Basics Training Program and his owner has shared their experience. I’ve also attached a clip showing Ouzo’s amazing new confidence walking with his owner. Great work guys! 🐾🐾 👣 Ouzo’s story Basics, basics, basics!!!! For me, it was learning the basics. Ouzo being my first dog I really didn’t know where to start.. but now I’ve been able to go even deeper since learning the basic training and figuring out what works for Ouzo. We really struggled with walking, he would often get bossy with me, as soon as he got frustrated he would act out and even bit me at times. Training with him and giving him tasks to do on our walks, whether that’s telling him to switch sides, or giving him a verbal cue to go ahead and sniff, as well as recalling him to come back in a heel has made our time walking so much more enjoyable. We can pass dogs now with no reaction, he used to lunge and bark out of frustration because he couldn’t go say hi to every dog. We can now peacefully pass them and he is constantly engaged with me. Ouzo now sees me as the leader and has relaxed knowing that I got it. It’s been so insanely helpful for our relationship as I would often get frustrated with him, which only made it worse for him. If you were like me and thinking “ugh I should get my dog into training” this is your sign!!!

This, is the beginning of a beautiful friendship and Paxton will learn Blue’s gentle and positive play energy. 💙🧡 For Uncle Blue, he’s learning there’s just no such thing as personal space with Paxton. 🥰

Who I am and what’s this doggy business...

Primarily, I am a dog-mom to two amazing beagle boys but I am also an experienced dog sitter, trainer (behavioural and physical rehabilitation), and have provided foster-care to rescued dogs (Beagle Paws Rescue) for many years. I understand doggy behaviours (toys to giant breeds) and know what to watch for to encourage positive doggy behaviour.

I also understand the challenges dog-parents go through trusting someone to ensure comfort, care and safety for their dog’s care -- be it during the day, overnight or short/long-term stays.

I have been providing home-based doggy dayplay and overnight stays for the past few years. My experience and knowledge with dogs is life-long and I am able to provide safe and trusting care to your doggy companions. In my care, all dogs are cared for in the same manner as my boys and social graces are always encouraged.

We have a home that is doggy appropriate with a securely fenced backyard that is locked, safe, clean and dogs are always supervised. Our doggy guests are able to relax, play games (the boys love interactive and learning games) and are cared for by someone that understands doggy temperaments and personalities (they are all unique little characters).
