Peanut butter!! It makes for great treat options and dogs love it! Peanut butter is made from well peanuts! Did you know that peanuts contain high doses of lectins that are naturally found in peanuts. Raw peanuts have higher lectin concentrations than cooked or roasted peanuts.

Lectins have an impact on gut health in both humans and animals. They can contribute to leaky gut, IBS and other digestive issues. If your pet is prone to these conditions, you may want to consider not feeding them peanut butter as a treat.

Because most skin issues arise in the gut, peanut butter should be avoided if your pet has gastric issues or skin conditions you are trying to treat.

An alternative source of peanut butter is almond butter. Yes, your furry friend can enjoy the occasional taste of almond butter. However, not all dogs can digest almonds well so while they're not toxic, proceed with caution. All nuts are high in fat which can upset your pup's tummy so if you want to share roasted nuts or nut butter, limit your dog's intake.

Remember: Avoid artificial sweeteners. Do not serve your pet almond butter or any kind of nut butter that contains xylitol. This sweetener causes a sudden decrease in canine blood sugar levels that can lead to life-threatening hypoglycemia, pancreatitis, or liver failure.

Thanks, Jim and Dawna, for our great new box! We put out extra food and supplies for people who realize after hours that they need something. Most people are wonderful and just take what they need. The other box got vandalized a few too many times and has now "retired."
