🍀🐾 Happy St. Patrick’s Day 🐾🍀

May your day be filled with luck, love, and lots of wagging tails and purrs! 🌈🐶🐱

As we celebrate this lucky day, here are a few paw-some tips to keep your furry friends safe:

☘️ Watch out for party treats! Many St. Patrick’s Day snacks, like chocolate and alcohol, can be toxic to pets. Stick to pet-friendly goodies!
☘️ Keep decorations out of reach! Curious paws might get tangled in festive streamers, shamrocks, or leprechaun hats.
☘️ Dress them up—if they like it! Some pets love a festive bandana, but if they’re not a fan, a cute collar works just as well.

📸 Join the fun! We’d love to see your pets showing off their St. Paddy’s Day spirit! Share a photo in the comments or tag us in your posts.

Wishing all of our wonderful pet families a lucky and love-filled St. Patrick’s Day! ☘️🐾

Stay Warm and Keep Your Pets Safe This Winter!

Winter weather can be harsh on our furry friends. Here are a few tips to help keep them healthy and comfortable in the cold:

Limit Outdoor Time
Even if your pet loves the snow, too much time in freezing temperatures can lead to hypothermia or frostbite. Keep outings brief and supervise them closely.

Bundle Them Up
Short-haired or smaller breeds may benefit from a cozy sweater or jacket. Proper insulation helps protect against chilly winds.

Paw Care
Snow, ice, and road salt can irritate paw pads. Gently wipe or rinse your pet’s paws after walks to remove any harmful residue.

Check for Warmth
If your pet stays outdoors for part of the day, ensure they have a well-insulated shelter, plenty of bedding, and a supply of non-frozen water.

Look Out for Signs of Distress
Shivering, whining, or lifting paws off the ground could mean your pet is too cold. Bring them inside right away if you notice any of these signs.

If you have questions about cold-weather safety or need to schedule a winter wellness check, please contact us at:

Brushing Your Pet's Teeth Can Build Your Relationship With Your Pet 🦷 ♥️
The best way to prevent dental disease and bad breath is to brush your pet's teeth daily. The act of regular brushing reduces bacteria and stimulates the blood supply in the gum tissue to fight bacteria under the gum line. The process of toothbrushing requires, time, patience and many, many treats but the rewards increase your pet's oral health and increases the human animal bond.

When teaching your pet to allow daily toothbrushing follow these steps. Remember that each pet will progress at their own pace so go slow and allow them to really understand what you are expecting at each step.

🐾Step 1: For the first week, choose a flavored, pet friendly toothpaste. Offer your pet a small amount of toothpaste on your finger and let them lick it off.
🐾Step 2: Once they have come expect the little toothpaste treat, apply a small amount of the toothpaste to a tooth with your finger. Slowly over the next week, increase to 2 teeth, and then 3 teeth as your pet allows.
🐾Step 3: Still using your finger, spread the toothpaste over all of your pets teeth and gums.
🐾Step 4: Once your pet tolerates putting toothpaste on all of their teeth, switch to a small pet toothbrush to apply the toothpaste.

Daily brushing, dental diets, water additives, oral wipes and chews can all help to decrease the number of bacteria on and around your pet's teeth. When using dental products, always use VOHC or Veterinary Oral Health Council approved products for dogs and cats. Products with a VOHC (https://vohc.org/)seal are proven to slow plaque and tartar accumulation. Remember that because a food or product says that it fights dental disease, does not mean that it has been proven to do so.

It is Dental Health Month! Reach out and we can help you with any of your pet dental care questions.

It's Friday the 13th!!

Just like walking under a ladder, crossing paths with a black cat or breaking a mirror, many people hold fast to the belief that Friday the 13th brings bad luck. Though it’s uncertain exactly when this particular tradition began, negative superstitions have swirled around the number 13 for centuries.

However we believe that black dogs and cats bring us GOOD luck and we want to see yours. Please feel free to share photos and stories of your beloved black coated family members!! We can't wait to see all of their faces!

It's hot out there 🌞and dogs don't sweat, and therefore cool down, the same way we do. Heatstroke is a life threatening condition that can cause lethargy, weakness, collapse and even death! While we take precautions to keep our pets cool in the extreme heat, it is important to know the signs.

Fortunately, heatstroke can be prevented, and if caught early, it is reversible. An overheated dog is an emergency, and even if you are able to cool the dog down, you should seek medical treatment from a veterinarian.

Have fun out there, but stay cool!! 🕶️🍉

We are in our second week of record breaking heat 🥵, with many more days ahead of us. We wanted to provide some tips on keeping your dogs safe this summer.

🐾 Exercise dogs only in the late evening or early morning, when it is cooler. All dogs can quickly overheat in these temperatures, especially brachycephalic, or short nosed breeds.
🐾 Check the temperature of the sidewalk or sand. If it is hot to the touch then it is too hot for a dog to walk on.
🐾 Make sure dogs can get to shade and fresh water at all times.
🐾 Provide kiddie pools, frozen kongs, frozen puzzle games and sprinklers to keep them cool and provide mental enrichment.
🐾 Do not run or cycle with your dogs when it is hot.
🐾 Know the signs of heat stroke. We will provide another post with sign to look for if you think your pet may be showing signs of over heating.

Stay safe! And stay cool!

Effective August 1st, there are new rules for travelling from Canada 🇨🇦 to the USA 🇺🇸 with dogs. We are learning as much as we can so that we can prepare pet owners for travel, however, the CFIA is actively engaging with the USA CDC to discuss and clarify these new requirements. At this time, the process and documents needed for dogs travelling from Canada to the USA have not been finalized.
What do we know for sure?

Age - All dogs must be 6 months of age or older. No puppies under the age of 6 months will be allowed to cross the border.

Microchip - All dogs that travel across the US border must be identified with an ISO microchip. If you intend to travel to the USA and your dog has not been microchipped, they will need one.

Rabies Vaccine - Please ensure that your dog's rabies vaccine is up to date. If your dog was vaccinated before the ISO microchip was administered, they may need another vaccination.

We will update everyone as we know more, but we encourage all dog owners who travel across the Canada/US border to please click the link below to follow the updates from the CFIA. https://inspection.canada.ca/en/animal-health/terrestrial-animals/exports/pets/united-states-america?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2davcnlhwrCRIRyFBShUmRxQlH_UfDdkUNCwu2X0yYJ6171liC501FAfo_aem_3dXZwydWFrtvrYj5OADHFg

We are learning more everyday so please call to get up to date information.
