Theo working on his impulses.
Dogs being dogs.
My dogs are all on e-collars. During our time outside I used it maybe 3 times and mostly on Kinna due to eating manure that was spread on the one field.
Some people don’t like them and that’s ok. They have it on but I now rarely need to use them. It’s my insurance just in case. And in this video I called Kinna, the all came and I didn’t use it on anyone.
But at the end when they came to me you bet I rewarded them for coming. I also reward them for coming even though I don’t ask. The more I reward the things I like, the more those stick around.
Although this is a command most people want for their dog, and in many cases, it's out of habit. I do not teach my dog with a STAY command. I teach an implied stay as in my dog is asked to sit and not move until I tell them something else.
We teach our dogs to do something as far as a command. Sit means to put your bum on the ground, down means to lay down, and come means to come to us. Place means to go to your place bed. Stay means don't do something.
It's best to teach them sit is sit, down is down, don't move until you are told otherwise, and it saves on the extra command.

Benefits to teaching your dog a heel command
- your dog will be able to calmly walk at your side and control his/her impulses.
-You will not have to worry whether he/she will misbehave while on a leash.
-You will be able to give your dog more freedom to explore the environment, as you will know, that he/she will stay in position immediately once he/she hears the command. That way you can prevent your canine from getting into potentially dangerous situations while outdoors.
- Your dog will improve his/her focus on you.
-You actually provide him/her with a predefined area, which brings a feeling of predictability, and thus safety.
The area on what you allow your dog to walk in a heel position is really up to what you are comfortable with. They can be taught to walk beside, behind, slightly in front but as long as there is no tension on the leash. Walking beside you by rewarding in your heeling hot spot over and over again creates value to your dog and some place they want to be because rewards are given in that spot.
Sit has many great benefits. For instance sitting at doorways, sitting nicely beside you when you stop and cross the road. Also, we often times use the sit command for allowing people to calmly and controllably greet the dog, as well as using it for food manners (making them wait for their food until we release them). Sit is one that your dog will only be in for a short amount of time.
The down command is one of the most used commands I use. With your dog in a down they can be in this position for longer periods of time and the dog can relax and be comfortable. If I go to places like the vet and I am waiting my dogs are in a down, when I have gone to the bank and I’m not fully focused on my dog they are in a down. Another time when I was eating lunch outside at a picnic table and the only shade was under it for my dogs they were in a down. A down is easier on the dog as you normally see them laying around the house. Not siting around the house. And when you don’t have your full focus on your dog it’s easier for you to see the full body movement of them getting up from a down then seeing their back end pop up from a sit.

Stand is one of the most underutilized and the least taught of the commands, however, we use it on a daily basis! The stand command makes grooming your dog so much better and easy! You just tell them to “stand” and then you can groom them, brush them, give them flea medicine, etc. or even use it at the vet during their check over. it also teaches your dog to listen to commands. Many people just teach sit and downs. Eventually the dog right after sit, it’s a down and will automatically offer it. Having added a stand in there the commands can be rotated so the dog doesn’t know which one is next.
