Love Dogs? We’re Hiring!

Health Mutts is a small business lucky enough to be ever growing over the years of the pandemic. We are desperately trying to expand to accomodate our rapidly growing clientele, so we are currently seeking a full time kitchen team member!

This is a very laid back but quickly paced work environment. Hourly paid breaks, loud music, chill dogs, ample snacks, free coffee and lots of laughs.
We do however rely heavily on the punctuality and attendance of our small staff, we prepare the day before with how much we take out for production by the amount of staff we have to handle the materials safely. Not enough staff in the kitchen poses a safety risk to the handling of materials and also a loss of product. So if you have a history of missing amounts of time, this is not the position for you.

This job includes:
Butchering chicken, beef, turkey, duck, mutton, pork, salmon, and rabbit. (So being good with a knife is an asset)
Grinding with a large scale industrial grinder.
Pucking 75 gram pucks (if you’re a video gamer with great hand eye coordination, this part is for you)
Heavy lifting typically 50lbs at a time - multiple times throughout the day.
Cleanliness and proper sanitation is essential. We pride ourselves in making THE BEST raw dog food product on the market; so we will be training you to identify inconsistencies in our materials and proper food handling care.

Salary, hours and benefits:
This job does highly benefit people with dogs. We have a large staff discount and there are lots of freebies to be had.
Hours will be Monday-Friday 10am-6pm or Tuesday-Saturday 7am-2pm
Pay rate for kitchen staff is $16/hr once fully trained and up to speed.
Our facility is about to undergo a large expansion, we would love to have someone that wants to grow with our company.
Looking for immediate or as soon as possible start date.

Our story

Meet the trainer:

Hi! I’m Ainsley Stapleton. I’m a Junior Dog Handler through Agility Association Canada (AAC). I’m 16 years old and have been training dogs since I was 11 years old. I compete in agility and rally obedience with my own dogs.I’ve been training puppy obedience in private sessions since I was 13, participated in the Encounters With Canada Science and Ecology program in Ottawa at age 15 and completed the Tim Ogilvie Junior Vet summer program at the University of Prince Edward Island at age 15. Currently, I work part-time as a photographer, dog daycare attendant and dog trainer at Pawsome Adventures in Elmsdale, N.S. I also shadow puppy obedience classes with Max Potential Dog Training and observe surgeries and appointments at the Elmsdale Animal Hospital. I own two papillons, Maisie and Ollie! I have a passion for dog training and aspire to help everyone have happier and more obedient dogs.

Our goal:

At universal canine, we look at each individual team (dog and handler) and assess their strengths and weaknesses to formulate a training plan that is perfect for them. We never use the same strategies for every dog, because every dog is different! We’re committed to proving that every dog can learn, and every dog can succeed. We strongly believe that EVERY dog NEEDS a job in order to feel fulfilled and happy! Giving your dog a job simply means that you are asking him or her to do something for you in order to earn things of value, such as meals, treats, bones, walks, playing fetch, or whatever it is that your dog enjoys and wants. Whether it’s a dog sport like agility, or just training at home. Dogs need jobs!
