Meet Theodore! He is a 2 year old Golden Retriever who has been in to see Dr. Juanita Ashton regarding his behavioural concerns.

Dr. Ashton recommended a thorough diagnostic work up due to his pet parent's concerns.

It was revealed on bloodwork that he had a tick- bourne illness called Anaplasma, which is similar to Lyme disease. He also had low Vitamin B12 levels. Both can cause all over pain, gastrointestinal disease, mood changes and fever.

After treatment was initiated, he started to improve a lot! He is feeling so much better now.

Behaviour concerns are not isolated in many cases. Even though he has treatment for behavioural issues, there are often medical issues underlying. Pets can often mask and hide disease. Medical issues can worsen behavioural symptoms.

We are all so very happy however, Theo is feeling better and on the road to recovery!

As many of you know, Dr. Juanita Ashton has a passion for animal behaviour and mental wellness for pets. She regularly sees behaviour consults by referring veterinarians. Last week she spent her time at Bide Awhile, a local shelter that takes great pride in the physical and mental wellbeing of every pet under their care. They go to great lengths to ensure all needs are met. Happy is a special needs kitty who was having a hard time getting adopted who needed a behavioural assessment from Dr. Ashton. Front NScenter's Barb Deg also gave a training plan for them. We are "happy" to say she did get adopted and has her treatment plan which staff was grateful to send with her new paw parent! An enjoyable send-off at the end of the visit, however was hanging out with the kittens who all loved to be held 😊😻

We ask that you please pick up any food or medications you will need before Christmas TODAY OR TOMORROW. After Thursday, we move into the next phase of our flooring update and we will have limited access to some of our products.

Again, we thank you for being patient through these weeks of renovations! We can’t wait to show you our new floors in the New Year!

Please have patience with us! Our new flooring is taking longer than expected but when done, is much better for the pets and people. Things may not run as smooth as we like but we will do our very best to meet your needs this week. Call ahead and we can walk you through how your appointment will look like. There is a lot going on this weekend at Elmsdale Animal Hospital!!

First, PLEASE remember to have your medication and food orders in TOMORROW for the remainder of the month!! With the renovations we may not have the capacity to get your orders in as we normally would.

Second, we will be having a ꜰʟᴀꜱʜ ꜱᴀʟᴇ on Christmas toys tomorrow and Saturday!! If you’re looking for a present for your furry friend, come check out our selection!!

And finally, a quick reminder that we will be closing at NOON on Saturday, December 7th for the East Hants Christmas Parade!! If you’re watching, keep an eye out for an excellent Vet and her adorable patients 😉

The Elmsdale Christmas Parade looks like it’s going ahead for December 7th! As we are on the parade route, we will be closing at noon on Saturday, December 7th.

ALSO, a quick reminder to have your December medications and food orders in by next Friday, December 6th!!

WE HAVE EXCITING NEWS!!!

We are doing a BIG UPGRADE to our building next month! We are having brand new flooring installed!

While this is an exciting change, it does mean that we will have some interruptions to our service while the new flooring is installed. We will be CLOSED starting Thursday, December 12th at 8pm and will reopen Monday December 16th at 7:30am and will be closing at 5:00pm on Friday, December 27th.

We will also have very limited storage during this renovation. We are kindly asking that if you need food or medication for the month of December that you have it ordered by December 6th.

From December 20th - December 30th we will NOT be scheduling any surgeries.

Finally, the new flooring will be an epoxy resin so there will be potentially strong odours, dust and noise during the renovation. If you or your pet may be sensitive to these things, please make sure to have routine appointments booked prior to December 6th.

We hope you are as excited for this change as we are and thank you in advance for your patience during the reno!!

Prepare for some traffic delays on Highway 2 for those of you who are coming to see us tomorrow. Give yourself extra time when heading out in the morning 😊

Traffic Advisory ❗

On Friday, November 15, our wastewater team will be performing system maintenance near 750 Hwy 2 in Elmsdale at 8:30 am. Traffic on Hwy 2 will be reduced to a single lane with traffic controls in place. Please follow all safety signage in the area.

This work is expected to be completed by 3 pm. Thank you for your patience.
