💡 A couple of things are happening here!

K9CI Garth is being positively reinforced following the lure, stepping onto an elevated surface, physical touch and verbal praise, and exposure to the vest.🐾

Every time we step into training sessions with these young eager minds, we want to solicit a positive association with training!

These puppies are working hard to reach their next stage of training. The end game? Becoming a PTSD Service Dog or an Operational Stress Intervention Dog (OSID) through our program OR be placed as an Autism Service Dog or Mobility Support Dog. ❤️‍🔥

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the maple leaf becoming Canada’s official flag. The Red symbolizes hope, prosperity, warmth, enthusiasm, and excitement. The White symbolizes peace, tranquility, neutrality, honesty, and purity. And the Maple leaf symbolizes Canada’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and unity. Our world famous banner and the freedom it represents has been made possible due to the service and sacrifice of those who have fought and died for its protection at home and abroad. Let’s raise the flag high today in honour of our great nation. Lest we forget 🇨🇦

Look who’s bright-eyed and bushy-tailed? It’s this little fruit cup, K9CI Kiwi! 🥝

K9CI Kiwi is now in advanced training where we continue to work on foundational skills in various environments, fine-tune areas in training and begin some tasks!

We are aiming for the end of this year to complete her training with us before she starts team training with her new handler!

Our team training consists of six months of integration. This means after the initial match and team training takes place at our facility and community, we support the team for six months as they learn how to be a coherent and strong team!

Count down the days, Kiwi! ♥️

We worked on cooperative care and handling, loading our markers and vest neutrality. 🐾

With more training, love and exposure, we hope to place him in our PTSD/OSID Program!

Our very own Steve Malone played a key role in creating the brand-new online first aid course for cats and dogs with the Canadian Red Cross! 🐶🐱

She is currently in training to become a Guide Dog for a K9CI Staff Member who is legally blind and has had two K9CI Guide/Service Dogs over the last 10+ years! We look forward to being a part of your training journey for the THIRD time! ♥️

Did you know that Bouvier Des Flandres are not only historically war dogs, but they are known to be guide dogs for the blind as well! 😁♥️

We have a total of four Bouviers that have graced our program! It’s not a breed we use often but when we do, they do great!

Tis the season of giving and thanks! 🎄

We would like to thank Bill Simpson, Matt Dale, Greg Willson and Emily Woods of Lerners Law Firm for the wonderful Holiday Donation to our organization! ⭐️ Donations such as this go straight to our program to assist with the costs of raising and training service dogs for those who need them.

Many do not know this but service dogs have no federal funding! The support from the community and those who are passionate about what these canines can do are the driving force behind sustaining organizations and programs alike to continue doing what we do.

🌍✨ Traveling with a disability can be an incredible experience, and planning ahead is key! K9CI Koda and his handler Dar recently celebrated her birthday in the beautiful Dominican Republic, enjoying sunshine and white sands.

Having traveled to Mexico and now the Dominican Republic, Dar shares valuable advice for those looking to travel with their service dog: “Each place I’ve been has its pros and cons, but the most important tip is to plan in advance and communicate with the accommodations. Always check the country’s legislation regarding service animals, as rules can vary significantly. Being informed will help ensure a smoother journey for you and your service dog!” - Dar & K9CI Koda

🐾 It may look like these little fluff balls are just playing, but there’s so much more happening behind the scenes!

✨Vest Socialization and Positive Exposure:
We start introducing our service puppies to their vests at a young age. By making this experience fun and rewarding—with treats and play—we help them form a positive association with wearing their vest.

🌟 Some dogs can be gear-shy or develop sensitivities as they grow, so it’s important for us to ensure they love their vests! Wearing the vest signals that they’re ready to work in public spaces, and we reinforce this positive mindset by practicing in various environments.

Together, we’re building confident, happy service dogs! 🐶💕
