Understanding Feline Diabetes: What Pet Owners Need to Know

Feline diabetes, also known as diabetes mellitus, is a common condition that affects many cats, especially as they age. It requires careful management to ensure a good quality of life for your furry friend.

Most diabetic cats suffer from type II diabetes, which involves both insulin resistance and decreased insulin production.

Obesity, age, and inactivity are risk factors. If left untreated, diabetes can lead to severe, life-threatening conditions like ketoacidosis.

Understanding Functional Mobility in Dogs and Cats with Arthritis

Dogs and cats with arthritis may show subtle signs, like stiffness or reluctance to move. However, subjective observations alone don’t reliably determine the severity of arthritis.

Arthritis commonly affects both dogs and cats, and negatively impacts their ability to perform everyday tasks like walking, jumping, or climbing stairs. It is critical to recognize signs of functional mobility issues early on, so you can manage pain and improve your pet’s quality of life.

From Stiff to Swift: Using Therapeutic Exercise to Help Dogs with Arthritis

Canine arthritis, particularly osteoarthritis, is a degenerative joint disease (DJD) that affects a dog’s mobility by causing joint inflammation, pain, and stiffness. As dogs age, DJD can significantly impact their quality of life, leading to a declining spiral of reduced activity, weight gain, mental distress, and increasing pain.

Guided therapeutic exercise is customized, low-impact activity designed by veterinary rehabilitation therapists to help arthritic dogs. Unlike regular exercise, therapeutic activities focus on gentle movements that improve flexibility, mobility, and strength without causing further joint damage.
