The last of the Dig My Curl Akita pack.

It is with heavy hearts and many troubled thoughts and discussions that we have decided to end our breeding program for the foreseen future.

There are many factors that made us come to this decision from the current economy, the shelter animal crisis, the births of our 2 sons, as well as a recent devastating trucking accident that almost took Gary’s life and we now have a long recovery ahead of us to get him healthy again.

Kiku, our black and white girl, is our last breeding female and we have set a spay date for her next month. She will continue to stay with us, her mother, sisters and her brother (when he comes to visit) but solely as companion dog.

We thank all our Dig My Curl Akita clients, or as we like to call you Family members, for taking our pups into your loving homes and giving them the lives they could enjoy happily with you and your families.

One day we will reopen our breeding program with a new generation but for now we will still be around to share posts of Akitas in need of a nice couch to land on and a family to call their own.

Yesterday was a big day for little Kitsune, as she got her spay. She unfortunately did not make our standards for our breeding program. We had high hopes that after she would meet our breeding expectations as she has beautiful markings lovely colouring , a very please and gentle personality and a good height to her. So a few people asked us why we spayed her if she had these desirable traits. Well unfortunately she also had traits that are frowned upon in the Akita breed. Her coat is too short, her muzzle is too narrow and her face/head is too small and round.
We wish to produce not only pure bred Akitas but also well bred Akitas.
So our sweet 2 year old girl will simply live her life as a companion to us, her pack mates and our two sons that she is bonded too.
On another note… Kitsune absolutely hates the inflatable cone.

Sumo and Kitsune had their annual visit at the vet clinic today. Both mom Sumo and daughter Kitsune got a clean bill of health.

A few days late but Happy Birthday to Kitsune and her litter mates.
This crew was our last litter and they turned 2 years old on the 28th.

We are proud to announce that we were informed that C**t found his forever home!
Thank you to everyone that helped spread the new of this boy in need!

Attention Dig My Curl Akita Family and Friends!!
We want to introduce you to C**t!
C**t is a 9 month old intact male akita that is fawn and white in colour with a black mask.
Due to no fault of his own his owner is currently seeking a loving forever home for her fur baby!
We are told that C**t is a very friendly, sweet, intelligent and fluffy big boy!
He currently lives and interacts well with 3 small breed dogs and one cat.
C**t loves to go for walks, spending time in the bush, and being outside.
C**t know how to sit pretty, shake both paws and is very smart.
C**t is house trained as well.

Please be aware that C**t is not one of our dogs, he does not reside with us, nor have we met him. All information is provided by his owner.
We are trying to help an owner and akita out in this sad situation.

So we have had a few people ask if we will be having a litter this year. As much as I would love to announce we are, but at this current time are putting our dog breedings on hold especially with our newest non forbearing addition!
Today we welcomed our second son into the world via c-section.

Please take note that this is not one of our pups, but she does need help to find her forever home!
If you are interested in learning more about her or adopting her, maybe even to foster her, reach out to Northern Animals Rescue and Sanctuary.
Can’t foster or adopt then give their post a share, every little bit helps them to find the right home for the animals in the rescue.

ADOPTED

We are always sad when things dont work out when our dogs are adopted . It’s always a sad time . Poor Kashi is coming back to us. She’s such a great girl but has some things to work out . She’s got some fears of loud noises , this could be because she was dumped on the side of the road and maybe it’s traumatic to her. Kashi is about 5-6 months old Akita she gets along with the other dogs and cats but hasn’t bonded with her human male figure and shows some fears . This poor girl needs some patience and understanding and someone to work with her . We know when we say a dog or puppy needs work people tend to shy away but she’s just too sweet that this shouldn’t define her she just needs a quieter place (noise wise ) If you’re interested in Kashi please pm our page .

Sumo is sulking so hard that didn’t even want the cookie that she dropped on the couch in front of her. Her daughters think the balloon cone is a toy we strapped to her and had to reminded repeatedly for the first hour that it was not a toy and to leave their mom alone

Sumo was a brave girl as she under went general anesthesia for her spay today. Every thing went well and she is now home resting and unhappy to be wearing a cone. Welcome to retirement Sumo! She produced 2 wonderful litters of gorgeous pups with Alfred.
Thank you to Dr César and the staff of the Englehart Animal Hospital for her care today
