Dig My Curl Akitas

Dig My Curl Akitas We breed and sell Akitas. Our dogs are bred for temperament and beautiful looks that aid in the good reputation for the Akita breed.

Hello and Welcome to Dig My Curl Akita's page. We here at Dig My Curl Akitas, DMC Akitas for shot, started breeding akitas in 2010 with our first litter born early 2011. Own and operated by Candace and Gary Schaap, we have lived with large, strong willed dogs all our lives and now have decided to share one of these precious breeds with the world. We breed our akitas for temperament first

and appearance second. We aim to better the breed with our dogs and help make and keep a good standing name for the Akita dog breed. Our akitas are from the American line of akitas but with a twist. Although our dogs carry the beautiful coat markings recognized in the American line, our dogs hold a build that leans toward the more traditional style of the Japanese akita bloodline. Our dogs do not get as big or have a 'box like' appearance as the American Bloodline tends to do. A true little gem in the rough has been found within our dogs. Our females usually top out around 85 to 90 pounds and males have reached between 95 to 110 pounds when done growing. Our puppies are well socialized with children and other animals before heading to their new homes. Puppies also go to their new homes with first set of vaccines, veterinary check up, deworming and microchip! Puppies can be picked up from our home or we can deliver puppies to their new homes, at owner's expense. If you are interested in an akita puppy to call you own, feel free to drop us an email, facebook message, or call us to inquire about our available puppies or up coming litters. Thank you for taking the time to visit our page. Sincerely;
Candace and Gary Schaap of Dig My Curl Akitas

Attention Dig My Curl Akita Family and Friends!!
We want to introduce you to C**t!
C**t is a 9 month old intact male akita that is fawn and white in colour with a black mask.
Due to no fault of his own his owner is currently seeking a loving forever home for her fur baby!
We are told that C**t is a very friendly, sweet, intelligent and fluffy big boy!
He currently lives and interacts well with 3 small breed dogs and one cat.
C**t loves to go for walks, spending time in the bush, and being outside.
C**t know how to sit pretty, shake both paws and is very smart.
C**t is house trained as well.

Please be aware that C**t is not one of our dogs, he does not reside with us, nor have we met him. All information is provided by his owner.
We are trying to help an owner and akita out in this sad situation.

If you think you could provide C**t a loving home please reach out to Fonda Elizabeth Winters-Trahan
If you can’t provide a home for C**t please share this post to help reach out to the person that can take him in. ❤️🐕

So we have had a few people ask if we will be having a litter this year. As much as I would love to announce we are, but at this current time are putting our dog breedings on hold especially with our newest non forbearing addition!
Today we welcomed our second son into the world via c-section.
Meet Bram Douglas Schaap!
Our Dig My Curl Akitas Family is getting larger!

Update: ***Kadhi has been adopted 🥰***

Hey Dig My Curl Family and watchers check out this baby girl!
Please take note that this is not one of our pups, but she does need help to find her forever home!
If you are interested in learning more about her or adopting her, maybe even to foster her, reach out to Northern Animals Rescue and Sanctuary.
Can’t foster or adopt then give their post a share, every little bit helps them to find the right home for the animals in the rescue.

ADOPTED

We are always sad when things dont work out when our dogs are adopted . It’s always a sad time . Poor Kashi is coming back to us. She’s such a great girl but has some things to work out . She’s got some fears of loud noises , this could be because she was dumped on the side of the road and maybe it’s traumatic to her. Kashi is about 5-6 months old Akita she gets along with the other dogs and cats but hasn’t bonded with her human male figure and shows some fears . This poor girl needs some patience and understanding and someone to work with her . We know when we say a dog or puppy needs work people tend to shy away but she’s just too sweet that this shouldn’t define her she just needs a quieter place (noise wise ) If you’re interested in Kashi please pm our page .

Update: *** Kaito has been adopted!! 🥰***

Is any Dig My Curl Family members able to help this little cutie find a forever home?
Please share to get little Kaito to into a loving family!
**Please be aware that this pup is not from one our litters. We are trying to be good breed advocates and help an Akita in need.
If you would like further information on Kaito please reach out to Northern Animals Rescue and Sanctuary **

Sumo is sulking so hard that didn’t even want the cookie that she dropped on the couch in front of her. Her daughters think the balloon cone is a toy we strapped to her and had to reminded repeatedly for the first hour that it was not a toy and to leave their mom alone

Sumo was a brave girl as she under went general anesthesia for her spay today. Every thing went well and she is now home resting and unhappy to be wearing a cone. Welcome to retirement Sumo! She produced 2 wonderful litters of gorgeous pups with Alfred.
Thank you to Dr César and the staff of the Englehart Animal Hospital for her care today

I am posting a picture of the break of the tooth, from when it happened, so you can imaging the complete size of the “fang” tooth.
Dearest Kiku broke the canine off at close to the half way mark, we don’t know how she did this.
Veterinarians and technicians will joke about this tooth being an “iceberg”, veterinarians hate having to remove them and in the next pictures you will see why.
I have placed the tooth in my hand and added a quarter for comparison. What you are seeing it the root of the tooth that was well rooted under the gum line and in the bone which makes them difficult to have extracted.
Now imaging that tooth with the missing half… that’s one big tooth 🦷!

Remember 2 weeks ago when posted about our lovely black lady Kiku breaking her upper right canine tooth in half?
Well today was her surgery day to have the painful broken tooth removed and we are pleased to report that every went great!
She may be down one tooth, but she is on good pain control and sleepy, but happy to be home. ❤️‍🩹
I will post a picture of the tooth for everyone to see the size of it!

Meet and greet went great for Suki and her new family.
It was sad a moment to say goodbye after her stay with us, but we are happy she appears to have finally found her right match.
We wish her the best of luck with her new family and reuniting with her brother 💕
