We've had some questions about how to remove the deluxe clasp from the Poppin pins and so we were motivated to make a quick video (with narration!) to explain the concept.
In a nutshell, the clasp is squeezed or pinched before pulling.
These clasps are used on a lot of police and military insignia to make sure they stay attached - they are a reliable clasp, BUT you need to know the technique :).
If you have another way to explain it, please leave it in a comment!
Can you get coins made quickly? We have a few tricks up our sleeve and using soft enamel paint is one of them. Soft enamel paint is the fastest way to have colour filled coins made when youโre in a hurry! They still take time to make of course (21-28 days in production after the art is done), but not as long as coins painted with imitation hard enamel or a combination of both. Diamond cut edges take extra time, so does screen printing and also two-tone plating. Thereโs a long list of ways to make gorgeous coins that take a bit more time and theyโre always worth it. But I digressโฆlol.
Today we want to show you soft enamel paint. The addition of the printed inset disc only added a couple of extra days and was so worth it to get all the details in the 19 Wing crest.
Please note this is an older coin - thereโs NO airshow at 19 Wing this summer. But today the Snowbirds performed over Kelowna so thereโs that!!
Check the @cfsnowbirds social media and website to find their 2022 schedule!

We get asked a lot about dies, paint and platings so weโre going to create some videos to hopefully help explain a bit about the coin design and production language we speak! No hair or makeup - just the real deal :)
Comment on what youโre curious about and weโll add that to the list! /Helen
We're always phographing coins...but some metal platings aren't quite so photogenic! Take shiny nickel for example...lol. Do you photograph your coins? We'd love to see your pictures!
