**THIS POST IS NO LONGER UP TO DATE!! PLEASE SEE OUR NEWEST POST REGARDING THE REQUIREMENTS FOR EXPORTING DOGS INTO THE US OR CLICK ON THE CDC LINK BELOW. **
The CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) has been in discussion with the US CDC (Center for Disease Control) and has released new information and a new Canadian form for dogs vaccinated for Rabies in Canada.
- The new form can be used for multiple entries and is good for the length of the rabies vaccine as long as the vaccine is not expired.
- The new form DOES NOT need to be endorsed by a vet at the CFIA. Your regular vet is able to fill out the new form.
To cross the border, your pet will need:
- A documentation of Canadian-Issued Rabies Vaccination form that has been issued and signed by a Canadian veterinarian.
- Vaccine Certificate signed by your veterinarian
- Have an ISO certified microchip
- Previous veterinary records or invoices that prove your dog has been in Canada the previous 6–12 months.
- CDC Dog Import Form Receipt that is filled out by the owner 2–10 days prior to travel.
Please contact us if you would like to start the process for bringing your pet with you to the US. We want to help ensure everyone can continue bringing their beloved pets with them on day trips or vacations!
If you are planning international (other than the US) travel with your pets, contact us as soon as possible as the procedures are very different.
For more information, please visit:
CFIA: https://inspection.canada.ca/en/animal-health/terrestrial-animals/exports/pets/dogs-usa
CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/importation/dogs/required-documents.html
You can also find the CDC Dog Import form and instructions on how to fill it out at the above link.
We are not able to accommodate same day form requests, so call us well before your trip.

💯% truth
The dogs past their previous story becomes an excuse.
In most cases, these behaviours are caused from a lack of experience in the critical period of socialization. Their inexperience can present itself as fear, anxiety, stress and aggression; mechanisms they develop over time to cope.
He's afraid of men? Make men = good things. He runs from the fly swatter? Pick the damn thing up and throw the dog a handful of steak a few times. See what happens.
When we adopt a dog, we're making a commitment to BETTER their life. Holding on to their past is doing the opposite. Show them they're in a better place by overcoming their problems, not nurturing them.
"He's afraid of X, so he must have been abused by/with X."
In rescue, a lot of dogs come into care with unknown histories. Many of these dogs present with specific or generalized fear and anxiety.
It can be easy - so, SO easy - to attach a story to their behaviour. In fact, it's becoming increasingly common for people to adopt dogs BECAUSE of their story. The more tragic, the better.
The problem with this is that it tends to freeze dogs into their neuroses. Their owner becomes so attached to the story, so emotionally invested, that they themselves cannot move past it. When the owner gets stuck, so does the dog.
Then the story becomes an excuse.
He's aggressive to the postman because one must have abused him.
He's leash reactive to other dogs because he was a 'bait dog'.
He runs from us when we grab the fly swat because someone has hit him with it.
In most cases, these behaviours are caused from a lack of experience in the critical period of socialization. Their inexperience can present itself as fear, anxiety, stress and aggression; mechanisms they develop over time to cope.
But what exactly caused their rescued dogs behaviour is irrelevant. It's a fools errand to try to figure it out; an addictive oxytocin-fueled quest to justify a lack of action.

I had a great time showing Ronni in conformation at the löwchen national dog show in Kalamazoo MI.
Most of the time I make time for other people's dogs and mine have a barrette half way out and are overdue for a bath.
Ronni got awarded 5 points towards her championship.
It was lots of fun getting to spend time with others I have known online for 5 years who also have löwchen.

Hello there
If you notice I have not been posting photos lately it is because I have nearly no appointments left in June and very few left in July .
Nearly all my clients book their next appointment before leaving their previous appointment.
Remember if you need available sooner there is always Spawtlight Grooming by Amanda she may have quicker availability. She works right beside me in my salon . She also has a second location in Ruthven.
I am so sorry if I did not get back to you I have been getting an overabundance of messages and I may have missed some .
I will be less busy in the fall and things will definitely quiet down at that point .
Thank you for your patience.

My first available appointment for a large breed full haircut is the end of June . I am specifically referring to a dog that requires a full body haircut not an outline trim(not border collie or golden retriever etc .)
If you own a large breed dog that requires a full body haircut ex a poodle mix or doodle it is recommended you book a follow up appointment before leaving your dogs previous appointment. I don't want your dog waiting 7 weeks extra for a full haircut.
Spawtlight Grooming by Amanda
Contact Amanda if you require sooner than 7 weeks .
Amanda works beside me in my salon . She also has an additional location in Ruthven.
Thank you

Very much agree . I am also not an advocate for trimming only face feet and fanny on puppies . My go to for puppies is 1 inch or 7/8 of an inch or 3/4 inch all over . My reasoning for this is when a puppy goes through a dramatic coat change at 8-10 months old the once very low maintenance coat that brushed out super easy now the Matt's are extremely hard to brush out and the matting gets close to the skin . When I do an all over haircut taking some length off everywhere I find the dog never comes back to me with extreme matting I never have to shave the dog to the skin because the first real haircut is 3 grooms later.
This was after hours tonight my son took four mini videos of my pup Millie's prep work I do her prior to her bath . Millie is a löwchen . She is getting the breed standard löwchen haircut.( Lion cut .) The last bit is bath time .🛀
My pup Millie's feet are cleaned up after hours . As you can see she is pretty relaxed with the grooming process. She was exposed to Grooming on a very regular basis from a very young age .
Hello there has been an over abundance of phone calls every day and staying on top of messages has been quite the challenge. I have not been taking pictures and posting them because of the excess number of messages and phone calls I am very concerned about drawing in even more excess calls on top of what I have already been trying to keep on top of . ~Michelle
