I have begun to notice that my pet is drinking and urinating excessively. What does this mean?

This pair of symptoms is known as polyURIA/polyDIPSIA, also known as PU/PD. These symptoms can be signs of a number of serious diseases, such as:

Diabetes
Kidney insufficiency
Bladder infections
Hormonal disorders

If you notice your pet drinking and urinating much more than they normally do, you should book an appointment with your veterinarian.
To confirm any suspicions and rule out other diseases, your veterinarian will recommend a panel of blood and urine tests, including urine bacterial culture.

Costumes and masks, lights and decorations, and a constant parade of strangers coming to your door— Halloween can be a downright spooky experience for pets. You can protect your pets by taking these steps to reduce the risk of them being hurt, poisoned, or lost.

Don't feed pets Halloween treats. Raisins can cause your pet’s kidneys to fail, and candy may contain substances toxic to pets, such as chocolate or xylitol (a common sugar substitute found in sugar-free candies and gum). Often, you won’t be able to tell what a treat or piece of candy contains just by looking at it.
Make sure your pets have identification (microchip, collar, and ID tag) that will make it easy for someone to contact you and return them home in case they escape through an open door while you're distracted with trick-or-treaters.
Keep lit candles, jack-o-lanterns, and other Halloween decorations out of reach of pets.
Keep all human costume pieces away from pets, along with glow sticks, decorations, batteries, and other holiday items. When chewed, glow stick items can release liquid that tastes really bad and can make pets drool excessively or act strangely (though it isn’t likely to be harmful). Other costume parts and decorations might cause choking, internal injury, or illness.
If you plan to put a costume on your pet, make sure it follows these guidelines:
Fits properly and is comfortable
Doesn't have any pieces that easily can be chewed off or cause choking
Doesn't block your pet's sight, hearing, breathing, mouth, or movement
Take time before Halloween to get your pet accustomed to the costume, and never leave a costumed pet unsupervised.
If your pet is wary of strangers or has a tendency to bite, put them in a room away from the front door during trick-or-treating hours, or provide them with a safe hiding place.
Keep your pet indoors.

Dear Valued Client,
Twin Valley VHS is committed to providing all our patients with exceptional care in a timely manner. Due to the high demand for appointments and the shortage of DVMs across Canada, when a client cancels without giving advanced notice, it prevents another patient from being seen in the hospital. For this reason, Twin Valley VHS management has implemented a cancellation, late and no-show fee.
If a client must cancel their appointment, they must provide notice of 1 business day. This allows the hospital to accommodate other patients who may require immediate care.

If 1 business day notice is not provided, the fees below will be applied to your account which must be paid in full before the next service or product can be provided or scheduled.

Cancellations:
Small Animal vaccines & medicals: $75
Surgery: $100
Herd Appointments: $200
Individual large animal appointments: $100
Lameness or Prepurchase exams: $200

Late:
In the event a pet parent arrives late to their appointment and cannot be seen by the veterinarian on the same day, they will be rescheduled for a future clinic visit, if available. Should this happen more than once in a calendar year, the $75.00 fee will apply.

No-Shows:
No Show appointments will be charged the same above cancellation fee.
If two (2) no-shows occur in a row or within a calendar year, the client will be required to pre-pay for the exam portion of any future appointments.

We appreciate your support in our goal to serve as many patients as we can during this veterinary shortage, providing medical services to those are in need.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our team.
Sincerely,
Twin Valley VHS Management

Our first client appreciation trail ride was a success. We had a total of 38 clients who braved the wind this past weekend to join us. Our youngest riders were 4 & 7. Our oldest rider was 77! They were all sent home with some goodies.

We had an abundance of prizes donated this year. We'd like to extend a big thank you to Merck Animal Health, Boehringer Ingelheim Equine Health, and Zoetis. Also a HUGE thank you to Les Salkeld for allowing us to have lunch at the infamous Tar Paper Shack.

Finally thank you to all of our equine clients who trust us with caring for their 4 legged athletes year round! and to everyone who sent us pictures from the day.

For anyone else who was at the trail ride please feel free to comment your pictures and videos from throughout the day!

We hope to see you all again next year!
