By Nigel and Cat GBT
In a town not too far, with snowflakes that twirled,
There lived a small cat who was quite the odd world.
With a nose oh so pink and big ears full of cheer,
He was ready for Christmas, his favorite time of year!
His name was young Nigel, and oh, what a sight,
He'd climb up the trees, and he'd twirl in the night.
He'd pounce on the presents, the bows, and the ribbons,
And wrap up the cookies with sprinkles and fixin’s.
Now Christmas was coming, the holiday bright,
With the twinkle of stars and the glow of the lights.
But Nigel had a problem, he couldn’t ignore,
He had never, not ever, hung stockings before!
"Oh dear!" he exclaimed as he paced on the floor,
"How do I hang stockings? What’s Christmas for?"
He thought and he thought, and he thought some more,
Then suddenly shouted, "I’ve got it, of course!"
“I’ll hang them on trees, on windows, and doors!
I’ll stack them with toys, and candy galore!
I’ll fill them with treats, with mittens and socks,
And hide all the cookies in the very top box!”
So Nigel ran off, with a leap and a bound,
He ran past the snowmen and rolled on the ground.
He dashed through the streets, and skipped through the snow,
Looking for ways his Christmas could grow.
He found a tall tree that was grand and so grand,
He climbed up so high, and with paw in his hand,
He tied up some stockings, then tied up some more,
And soon there were stockings from ceiling to floor!
But just as he sighed, “Oh, my work is all done!”
A thought popped in, and he said, “Oh, that’s not the fun!
The stockings need filling, that’s part of the deal—
You can’t leave them empty, not a one, not a single one, no, no!”
So off he went scurrying, back into town,
He gathered up goodies, from the street to the crown.
Candy canes, cupcakes, and ribbons galore,
He stacked up his goodies and rushed out the door.
But then, oh dear, what a most dreadful sight!
A gust of wind howled, and blew with great might!
The stockings flew up, and the goodies flew too—
Away from young Nigel, and out of his view!
“Oh no!” he cried out, “What will I do now?”
“My stockings are flying! They’ll land, but where? How?”
He ran down the street with his paws all a-flurry,
Chasing the stockings in quite a big hurry.
The stockings flew high, and the candies flew too,
The cupcakes, the ribbons, the bright snowflakes blew through!
Nigel, he was frantic, he raced and he leapt,
But the stockings were spinning and swirling and swept!
Then, just as he thought all hope had been lost,
He heard a soft jingle, a faint Christmas frost.
From up in the sky, on the twinkling moon’s beam,
Came Santa Claus flying, just like a dream!
His reindeer were laughing, his sleigh full of cheer,
And Nigel was thrilled, for he was quite near!
Santa laughed softly, then called down with grace,
"Don’t worry, my dear, we’ll finish the race!"
He waved to his reindeer and tugged on the reins,
And soon all the stockings were back in the lanes.
They fluttered and landed with soft little thuds,
And Nigel jumped high, in his snow-covered buds.
“Thank you, dear Santa! You saved Christmas night!”
He said with a grin, as the stars twinkled bright.
Santa winked, and he whispered with glee,
“Christmas is magic, as you soon will see!”
Then off he flew high, through the cold winter sky,
And Nigel returned to his home with a sigh.
He hung up his stockings, with care, one by one,
And giggled and clapped as he watched the fun.
He filled them with goodies, from top to the toes,
With candy and ribbons and snowflakes that glowed.
And though it was late, Nigel didn’t mind,
For Christmas, he knew, was one of a kind!
So the town fell asleep, and the stars shone so bright,
With Nigel all nestled and tucked in for night.
And he dreamed of the magic, of snowflakes and cheer,
Of stockings and goodies, and Christmases dear.
And every year after, on each snowy night,
Nigel hung his stockings with pure Christmas light.
And if you should visit and look with delight,
You’ll find them all sparkling, so happy, so bright!
Merry Christmas, dear friend, may your stocking be full,
Of joy and of laughter, and moments so wonderful.
Just like young Nigel, let your heart take flight,
And share all your love on this magical night!

Nigel edits poetry.

In the quiet corners of cozy homes,
Where dogs and cats find comfort to roam,
Lurks a tiny menace, unseen by eye,
A pest that brings discomfort, oh so sly.

From eggs they hatch, in secret laid,
On carpets soft and in pet's shade,
Tiny larvae squirm and wriggle free,
Feeding silently, where no one can see.

But when they grow, and transform they must,
Into hungry fleas, seeking bloodlust,
They leap onto pets with stealthy grace,
To feed and thrive in this furtive place.

Oh, the bite, it brings such misery,
For dogs and cats with itching plea,
Their fur they gnaw, their skin they scratch,
As allergies flare in an awful match.

But fear not, for there’s hope to find,
In efforts kind to ease the mind,
Vacuum the carpets, wash the bed,
Keep them clean to thwart what's bred.

And for safe and effective care, take heed,
See veterinarians, who indeed,
Can guide with wisdom, help provide,
Relief from fleas that try to hide.

For in these measures, we surely see,
A happy home for pets and thee,
Free from fleas that once did strive,
Guarded with love, so they can thrive.
