🐾Final Tech Spotlight: Tess🐾

Last but certainly not least in our tech spotlight series is Tess! She has just completed her first set of midterms in the Animal Health Technology program at Lakeland College, and we couldn’t be prouder. Tess began her journey with us as a high school student, and it has been an absolute joy watching her grow into the caring, dedicated individual she is today. Her kindness and commitment to patient care shine through in everything she does.

Tess has a special love for large animal medicine, and whenever the opportunity arises, she jumps at the chance to participate. We are excited to watch her continue to grow in her field, and we already know she will be an outstanding RVT when she graduates.

Here’s to many more years of Tess being an integral part of our team! 🎉🐶

🐾Next up in our tech spotlight: Savannah🐾

We are thrilled to honor Savannah as she concludes her distance veterinary technologist program. She only has one requirement left before she can take the VTNE, the national exam for RVTs. Her dedication and hard work have truly shone through during this journey.

Savannah’s kindness and caring nature make her a standout in our team. She excels in medical nursing and passionately cares for hospitalized patients, focusing on their overall well-being, creating effective pain medication regimes, and providing support in every way possible.

Her skills are developing beautifully, and we couldn’t be more proud of her achievements. Savannah, you are an invaluable asset to our team, and we can’t wait to see all the amazing things you will accomplish in your career. Keep shining! 🌟

🐾Meet Dani, our newest tech spotlight!🐾

Dani graduated this year and passed her VTNE in August. Shortly after earning her title as a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT), she made the move to join our team. Many of you haven’t had the chance to meet her yet, but you will soon! She’s known for her kindness, encouragement, and dedication to being a great patient advocate.

Though she’s adjusting to our small animal practice, Dani has a special passion for large animal medicine—especially cows. During her program in Vermilion, she earned her certification in artificial insemination for cattle 🐮. Her favorite area of interest since coming here is radiology!

We’re excited to have Dani on our team and can’t wait for you all to meet her! 🩺💚

🐾 Next up in our tech spotlight: Hayley! 🐾

Hayley completed her distance Animal Health Technology program while working with us. After earning her RVT (Registered Veterinary Technologist) designation, she has continued to be a vital part of our team. Hayley is incredibly team-oriented, always finding ways to support her fellow team members, clients, and patients alike.

Hayleys favourite area of interest is radiology and ultrasound. She is always finding opportunities to get the perfect X-ray or identify structures on ultrasound to further her skills. Additionally, she loves cytology. So if you can’t find her in radiology you can catch her at the microscope

We’re lucky to have Hayley on our team! 🩺✨

🐾 next in our tech spotlight Cierra!! 🐾

Cierra graduated from Olds collage in 2019 gaining her RVT (registered veterinary technologist) title shortly after. She joined our team last year after relocating to the heart of the Rockies! She came from the Calgary CARE Centre, where she gained years of experience in emergency medicine before transitioning to the internal medicine department.

Her favourite part of the clinic is surgery and anesthesia, where she excels at building relationships with patients and clients. Cierra enjoys the challenge of difficult medical cases and takes pride in providing excellent care to both the patient and the client.

🐾 Kicking off Tech Week early with Kaida! 🐾

Kaida’s journey with us started way back in 2016, when she first joined the clinic as a high school volunteer. Her passion for animals quickly led her to pursue a career in the veterinary field, and after being accepted into tech school with a focus on wildlife rehabilitation, she came back to complete her practicums right here with us. Since then, we’ve been lucky enough to have her on our team as a Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT)!

Kaida’s favorite part of the job? Any case that involves exotics or wildlife! She’s also our fractious and anxious animal whisperer—we love to summon her when we need a hand with nervous spice balls. In addition, she’s a dedicated rehabber with our local wildlife rescue and co-founded Twin Meadows Animal Rescue in 2020.

We are so grateful for her expertise, dedication, and heart! Thank you for all you do, Kaida! 💚

Stay tuned as we continue celebrating our amazing techs this week!

Assistant Appreciation! 💕

Last but certainly not least, we want to shine a spotlight on Emily! She’s been with us for a few months now, and in that short time, she’s helped so much! Emily often gets pulled in eight different directions at once, yet somehow manages to get to all of us with a smile on her face. Whether she’s comforting our patients, helping the team with restraints, or managing the little things that keep the clinic running smoothly, her dedication and passion are so appreciated. We’re so lucky to have her on our team, and we can’t wait to see all the amazing things she’ll continue to do!

Assistant Appreciation!

Meet Myla!
Myla has been with us a couple of days a week for a few months now, and we couldn’t be more grateful for her kindness and care. She’s always there to lend a hand, whether it’s comforting a nervous patient or offering that extra bit of TLC to our furry friends. Myla’s compassion extends beyond the clinic too—she’s even taken in a few feral cats through the local rescue to ensure they get the care they deserve. It’s been a joy having her on the team, and we can’t wait to continue working alongside her!

Thank you for all you do!!

Assistant Appreciation!

Maddy has completed her Veterinary Medical Receptionist program through Olds College, so many of you may have seen her up at the front in recent months. Now, Maddy has gradually transitioned into working as an assistant in the back when we need her, and it has been wonderful to watch her skill set blossom. Whether she’s helping out with patient care or lending a hand with procedures, Maddy has been proving herself to be a valuable member of our team. We’re excited to see her continue to grow in her new role!

Assistant Appreciation Post: Tess

Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of watching Tess’s skill set grow and evolve, and it’s been nothing short of amazing. Her dedication and passion for animal care have truly shone through in everything she does. We’re incredibly proud to share that Tess is taking the next big step in her journey—heading off to tech school in just a month! 🎓🐾

But don’t worry, this isn’t goodbye! Since her program is blended, you’ll still be seeing her friendly face around the clinic as she continues to help care for your furry friends. We couldn’t be more excited for Tess and what lies ahead for her!

Thank you, Tess, for all your hard work and commitment. We’re cheering you on every step of the way! 🐶🐱

Meet Melissa: Our Encyclopedia of obscure (and not) animal Wisdom!

Though we missed the formal Assistant Week, we couldn’t let another moment pass without shining a spotlight on our incredible team of veterinary assistants. First up is Melissa, a true asset to our clinic.

Melissa is the go-to person when you need that one random fact or a quick tip. From obscure animal from breeding to nutrition, she’s got it all covered. Her wealth of knowledge is vast and always comes in handy.

Beyond her encyclopedic brain, Melissa plays a crucial role in keeping our clinic running smoothly. Whether it’s assisting in appointments, comforting the hospitalized animals, or lending an ear to a stressed-out pet parent, Melissa’s compassionate nature is something we appreciate about her.

So, here’s to Melissa! our walking, talking fountain of random but oh-so-useful information. We appreciate you more than words can say, and we’re so grateful to have you on our team!

Stay tuned as we continue to introduce and celebrate each of our amazing assistants!

❤ Good morning everyone! Andrew here, with a message from management.
After reading some pretty negative comments over the weekend about the after-hours emergency care in our community, we thought it would be a great time to talk about it again. The East Kootenay Veterinary Group was born out of a need for a long-term and sustainable solution to providing the much needed after-hours emergency care that our area needs.
Clinics in larger cities have the ability to rely on 24-hour emergency hospitals to provide this service for emergencies during the day and night so the general practice clinics do not need to. Alternatively, clinics in smaller towns are not able to routinely provide after-hours care which leaves people having to drive, sometimes hours away, to the closest city centre to reach these emergency hospitals. Then we have communities like Cranbrook - Not big enough for a 24 hour emergency centre, but certainly in need of emergency veterinary care. This means that all clinics in our area have to balance general practice (preventive health, vaccinations, etc.) along with emergencies every day and night. This puts a lot of pressure on the veterinary staff in order to balance these two needs on a daily basis. The growing demand for veterinary care, and a nation-wide shortage of veterinary staff puts a huge strain on everyone in the veterinary industry. The industry itself is plagued with over-work, burnout, and the inevitable mental health challenges that come with working in such a physically and emotional demanding field.
This is why we came to the agreement to team up with all the clinics in the East Kootenays to ensure we can continue to provide this service to our area. Yes, that means sometimes the on-call clinic is in Invermere or Creston, and yes that is a little farther away. But, at this time, it is an absolute necessity to continue to provide reliable after-hours care that our area needs.
Balancing general practice with emergency care is extremely taxing on the veterinary staff in the community and all the staff at all the clinics are some of the most dedicated and hardest working people I have ever met. It's heartbreaking seeing the work that the veterinary staff puts in, day in and day out, and the sacrifices made, only to read comments saying they need to do more. The strain on the veterinary community is very real and well documented. So we ask our wonderful community to be understanding of the difficult decisions we have to make as a group in order to continue to provide the level of care our community deserves.
We love you all, and we will continue to work incredibly hard to care for you and your animals. Thank you for hearing us out. ❤
