Have you ever wanted to know more about horses but don't necessarily want traditional riding lessons?
Do you dream or buying or currently own property you think you'd maybe like to get a horse or two for but have no experience in their care?
Applegate stables is now offering the "Horse Crash Course" series of lessons for the curious adult who wants to know more about horses!
This is a 6 lesson program in groups of 2 to 4 (no you do not need to create the group if you're just wanting to do this yourself). This is a very hands on program and there IS very basic riding for the final two lessons. This course is designed to give the completely green adult an idea of what they're getting into, what to look for when buying, how to care for the horse at home and hopefully be able to get on and do basic walk and trot. Additional riding lessons are available should you choose to continue riding at $70/45min lesson.
Course cost is $600 for all 6 lessons and must be paid in full before the first lesson. Lessons are minimum of one hour but may go beyond depending on what we are doing that day and how many people. Cancelation policy is 24hrs notice and only one reschedule opportunity but will have to be fit with another group doing the same as your missed day.
General idea of curriculum is as follows:
Day 1: introductory day, conformation, breeds, temperaments, colors etc.
Day 2: barn care topics such as bedding, learning to clean a stall, different types of bedding, fencing, feeding, hay, pasture management etc
Day 3: first aid topics such as wound care, common ailments, bandaging, body score, when to call a vet etc
Day 4: equipment topics such as different saddles, bridles, bits, pads, how to clean and take apart said tack etc
Day 5: how to tack up, grooming, lunging, mounting, steering and breaking at the walk.
Day 6: build on Day 5 adding in trot (sitting and posting) etc.
This is a 25+ course and is held at our beautiful farm in feversham (about 25mins from collingwood, an hour from orangeville, 50mins from owen sound, an hour from Barrie).
