Meet Daisy (left) Shepard mix and Nikki (right) Dutch Shepard. Daisy is 2 years old and Nikki is 4 years old. They are a mother-daughter duo! Both are very sweet lovely girls a little timid but will warm up. They are very attached to each other and we would prefer to keep them together. Unfortunately, Nikki is heartworm-positive, however Daisy is not currently heartworm-positive but we would recommend retesting in 6 months just to be sure.

If you are interested in adopting Daisy and Nikki to their forever home please send in an application off our website (link below) to [email protected] Thank you! Link to adoption forms- https://forteriespca.ca/adopt.php

We would like to give a truly heartfelt thank you to our retiring Manager.

After forty two years of dedication, compassion, and tireless service, we are saying goodbye to a truly very special part of the Fort Erie SPCA family as our Manager Wendy Trombley has retired.

Her commitment to the animals in our care has been unwavering. Over her 42 years Wendy has helped tens of thousands of animals and her impact can not be understated.

Day in and day out, she has shown what it means to lead with heart and has always advocated for those without a voice, supporting staff and volunteers through every challenge, and ensuring that the shelter remained a place of care, safety, and integrity.

Beyond her role as Manager, she has been a mentor, a steady presence, and a source of guidance and wisdom for so many. Her knowledge, work ethic, and deep compassion have shaped the Fort Erie SPCA in countless ways and have left a lasting impact on our organization and the Fort Erie community that we serve.

While we will deeply miss her leadership, we are grateful for the foundation she has built and the legacy she leaves behind. Her influence will continue to be felt in every adoption, every animal helped, and every life changed through the Fort Erie SPCA and our clinic that she was fundamental in getting off the ground.

We wish her a happy, healthy, and very well deserved retirement, filled with peace, joy, and time to enjoy the next chapter.

Thank you for everything. You will always be a part of the Fort Erie SPCA family.

Thank you to our Officer Irene for your dedication to animal safety and your hard work!

"We were down at the river on Tuesday because a photographer from The Buffalo News was covering the 41st annual Surfing Santa event and capturing photos of the Peace Bridge in the background.

During that time, my daughter Savannah (10) noticed a bird sitting immobile on the icy shoreline. She was immediately concerned, named the bird “Bananas,” and kept asking for my support crew to check on it throughout the day.

After the event ended and we were preparing to leave, Savannah urged me to go back and check on Bananas one more time. She wanted us to take the bird to a wildlife rehabilitation (Raptors) centre we had previously taken an injured crow to last year.

Instead, I contacted the SPCA — and I am still struck by how quickly you arrived. I believe it was Irene who came, and it felt like you were there in under ten minutes.

In the 41 years I’ve been involved with Surfing Santa, I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a moment that more clearly captured the true spirit of Christmas: a helpless, injured sentient being that would otherwise have been left alone to freeze on a rocky shoreline, and a response driven not by spectacle, but by quiet compassion.

It was my daughter’s love for animals that brought us back and gave Bananas a chance.Whatever the ultimate outcome, please know that your professionalism, kindness, and calm presence mattered deeply to us — and especially to Savannah.

It was a powerful example of empathy in action, and one we won’t forget.

Thank you again for the important work you do, especially under difficult winter conditions."

With sincere appreciation,
Surfing Santa
John Fulton
