🚨🐾 BEWARE OF KIBBLE MARKETING TRICKS!

Don't let pet food labels fool you! 🐕 You’d think they prioritize animal protein, right? Not always. Some kibble marketers use sneaky tricks to mislead you. 😡

Here’s the truth: Ingredients are listed by *initial weight*, not the final product. Meats like chicken may appear first, but they’re packed with water—up to 70%! Once processed and dried, the real protein content shrinks dramatically.

📉 Imagine this: A kibble bag claims "Chicken" as the first ingredient. Sounds great, right? But after drying, most of that weight disappears, leaving only a small percentage of actual chicken. Meanwhile, those dry ingredients (like corn meal) stay heavy and dominate the kibble.

Translation? That "Chicken" kibble might actually be "Corn Meal" kibble. 🫣

💡 The fix? Educate yourself and choose wisely for your dog’s health! 🐶

I haven’t seen the topic come up here, but just in case there are any dog owners concerned, I wanted to share this post from a very reputable veterinarian Odette Suter DVM and a very reputable dog food maker i’ve known of for years — through various outbreaks, whether based in fact or fallacy. The essence is — respectable companies have a safety protocol that they develop, follow and improve upon to manage any outbreaks in the food supply or their manufacturing, whether they are bona fide or rumour based claims. They are as serious about their business and the health of their customers as you are about yours.

If you don’t trust your pet food maker, find one you do. Then you can avoid panic every time there’s a slow news day.

To say that "avian influenza is on the rise" or to assume that avian influenza is a new and scary disease is irresponsible at best. Quite simply, the reason that we are seeing it come up now and haven't in previous years to the degree that we are seeing now is because it is being tested for by FDA now, where before it was handled by USDA and poultry growers. To speak as though we all need to button up our standards now fully assumes that the standards of raw pet food manufacturers are where the problem stems from. We say constantly that one cannot get healthy food from sick animals - what you get from sick animals is sick food. Solutions Pet Products has been defending our foods and consumers from viruses, pathogens, contaminants, etc ever since we ran our very first production batch.

SOURCING: Like most things regarding health, sourcing is of utmost importance regarding, not just AI, but all viruses and pathogens. Starting from a base of healthy birds, who are not exposed to contaminated birds, eliminates the risk completely before the birds even get to our facility. Clean sourcing that encourages a robust immune system is one of the main benefits of regenerative farming.

FERMENTATION: Besides the incredibly effective food safety step of keeping our foods and raw materials frozen throughout the entire manufacturing process (none of our ingredients ever thaw until the consumer thaws them out at home), fermentation has been shown to effectively neutralize viruses and pathogens through “competitive inhibition”. The strength of our food is in its potent probiotic culture that deactivates harmful entities, including viruses.

EXCLUSIVITY: It is no surprise that factory farmed animals are diseased and are creating a culture of disease. That is why we chose to come out of the gate with the cleanest possible sourcing and the highest quality manufacturing standard - we saw this coming. Our food isn’t co-packed and our ingredients are stored in our own private cold storage facility. Nothing that we haven’t vetted comes in contact with our food at any stage in the process.

HANDLING: It seems as though the FDA warnings regarding avian influenza in raw food are based, if we assume honorable intent, on an abundance of caution rather than on any determinable data. To date, there have not been any robust or scientifically valid studies showing that animals can contract AI from eating raw meat that has been properly handled - instances studied involve either direct contact with contaminated birds or improperly handled raw meat. It is easy to lose perspective - if a pet gets sick or dies, we rush to blame something tangible, often food, before considering other factors, such as how that food was handled, the environment that it was kept in or served in, and how the affected pet lived or was treated aside from their diet.

People can throw around their fancy words like "biosecurity" all they like, speaking as though it is a new concept. At the end of the day, we are not going to change anything that we are doing, because we have been doing what is needed to be done to create safe, clean food from the very beginning. Solutions for pets and solutions for the planet are one in the same.

We are, as we always have been, committed to clean, raw, earth honoring foods. As we usher in a New Year, that conviction remains stronger than ever. Thank you all for your support and your passion and we are excited to move forward in consistency and health ❤️

BEfore you use Librela on your dog BE prepared and BE wise. Do your homework. This is not a magic bullet ... and can be a deadly bullet.

There have been thousands of ADVERSE EVENTS: Ataxia (uncontrolled muscle movement), seizures, other neurologic signs, including but not limited to, paresis (muscle weakness), recumbency (leaning or lying down), urinary incontinence; polyuria (increased urination), and polydipsia (excessive thirst). In some cases, death (including euthanasia) was reported as an outcome of these adverse events.

Here’s what happened:

May 5, 2023:
FDA approves Librela, a monoclonal antibody for dogs with osteoarthritis pain.

Dec. 16, 2024:
FDA obtains a summary of Librela info under the Freedom Of Information Act — and notifies veterinarians about adverse events reported in dogs treated with Librela.

So how did a drug like Librela make it to the US and Canadian market … and yet just 18 months later the FDA backpeddled with a warning to veterinarians? Even though there were already many reports of adverse reactions in Australia and Europe since 2021???

Here’s how:

#1. Two field studies were conducted (1 in the US and 1 in Europe) to evaluate the effectiveness of Librela …

#2. While human trials required joint x-rays, the veterinary trials for Librela did not. Blood and serum chemistry of the dogs was done at several stages over 84 days. But only to 84 days…. And only in detail in safety studies, not long the term effects when treating dogs.

#3. Three internationally known orthopedic surgeons of small animals reported 2 “catastrophic” cases of rapidly progressive osteoarthritis to Zoetis and yet the Zoetis database did not uncover any cases.

#4. These 3 surgeons and the FDA report discrepancies between the results of the Zoetis-funded (maker of Librela) studies and a separate summary of Librela data obtained through the Freedom of Information Act.

#5. Recent reviews describe “dramatic acceleration of osteoarthritis” in animals treated with anti-nerve growth factor (NGF) monoclonal antibodies (MCA) used in Librela, contrary to Zoetis reports.

#6. The lead researcher and 3 others are employed by Zoetis, the company that manufactures Librela.

#7. There were 135 dogs in the US study and 141 dogs in Europe. “Throughout the study, owners used the Canine Brief Pain Inventory (CBPI) assessment tool to measure the severity of the dog’s pain and the degree to which the pain interfered with the dog’s daily activities.”

Do you know what a “Canine Brief Pain Inventory (CBPI) assessment tool” is?

It’s a survey, opinion poll, questionnaire, checklist … left in the hands of the dog owners to evaluate the dog’s condition. Not a veterinarian. Not a canine physical therapist. Not a canine chiropractor. The owner. And let’s admit it, as dog owners we’re biased in looking at our dogs as they should be, we want their health to improve, and we may not be the best judge of improvement or lack of improvement. Nevertheless, there was a higher percentage in the Librela group that scored better in areas of improvement vs the control group.

The European study of 141 dogs recorded 37 adverse reactions. That’s 26% of participants. It included 2 dogs that suffered serious adverse events and were euthanized. A 13-year old Bichon Frise had pre-existing issues but was diagnosed with renal failure and euthanized 3 days after the study. An 8-year-old mixed breed dog had pancreatitis and was euthanized a few days before the end of the study.

The US study of 135 dogs reported 65 adverse reactions … 48% of dogs. And yet, the majority of dog owners getting Librela for their dogs haven’t been told this.

So what are the long-term effects on dogs – the ones that haven't had adverse events … or died … NO ONE KNOWS. Librela is a new drug. Beyond the 6 month safety study, there is no information about the long-term effects.
