Fort Nelson's Lady of Retail Susan Walsh is on a well deserved break for about 10 days but all is not lost!.
Stop by and meet Shannon Hughes!. Shannon is well known in Pet Rescue circles and was critical in helping to look after those pets who were left behind during the May evacuation due to wildfires.

Shannon will be minding the store this week and next and is happy to help you with anything pet related.

Fort Nelson wildfire situation update: 27 July 2024 - IMT to Demobilize.

Northern Rockies Regional Municipality (NRRM) has updated residents on the wildfire situation surrounding the area...

The NRRM stated that the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) will be demobilizing its Incident Management Team, stationed in Fort Nelson since late May, on July 27th and 28th.
The local government pointed to the departure of fire crews and resources as a “significant step forward” in wildfire management efforts.

The BCWS says the precipitation and cooler weather have reduced the risk of systemic wildfire activity.
According to the NRRM, personnel will remain on hand to continue “managing and monitoring the situation closely.”

Fort Nelson was evacuated earlier this summer, with an evacuation order being issued by the NRRM on May 10th, lasting for two weeks.

According to the BCWS, there are still 430 wildfires provincially, and about 60 percent of them are out of control.

Our recent evacuation due to wildfires has had a profound affect on people. Not many are talking about it but many would like to...

Community Wellness Drop-ins will be on Monday, July 15th (Today), between 6:00 -8:00pm and (tomorrow) Tuesday, July 16th, 3:00-7:00pm at the Rec Centre Community Hall and are open to everyone interested in talking about the recent evacuation and the summer season.
These informal & confidential sessions will provide opportunities for attendees to talk about how the wildfires are affecting them, their families or people they know, as well as how folks can support themselves and those they care about.

Please feel free and comfortable if you would like to talk with someone.

Wildfire update from EOC NRRM & FNFN:

As many of you are aware, there are wildfires active in the surrounding wilderness. While firefighting efforts are underway, we want to stress the importance of prioritizing safety and being prepared. The wildfires remain a significant distance away from the Fort Nelson First Nation (FNFN) IR #2 reserve and the settled area Fort Nelson.

Fort Nelson First Nation and Northern Rockies Regional Municipality are working closely together with BC Wildfire Service and other local partners to ensure clear and timely communication during this situation.

Due to the unpredictable and volatile nature of the fires, we kindly ask all community members to refrain from accessing the backcountry at this time. This precaution is essential to ensure your safety and to avoid any potential interference with ongoing firefighting operations.

We also ask that community members of each respective community please provide their Emergency Operations Center (EOC); either the FNFN's EOC or the NRRM’s EOC with updated locations of your cabins, traplines, or culturally significant areas so that we can ensure this information is passed on to BC Wildfire Services.

Please know that we are closely monitoring the wildfires in the area and will provide further updates as necessary. In the meantime, let us continue to support one another and remain vigilant during this challenging time. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
