North Peace Veterinary Clinic

North Peace Veterinary Clinic Veterinary care founded in our community, for our community. From its inception the practice has served families, family pets, and the family farm.

The North Peace Veterinary Clinic was established in 1963 by Dr. Peter Cribb, and purchased by Dr. Richard Wood in 1967. In the early years the practice was located in the basement of the Wood family home. Farm calls were many and often cows and horses were cared for in the carport with the blessing of the neighbours. As the needs of the practice and community grew it was obvious more space was ne

eded and the current clinic was constructed in 1974. Growth and expansion dictated an addition to the building in 1989, with several renovations occurring over the years. In the fall of 2013 we opened a large addition to the practice nearly doubling it’s size. A new large animal facility and small animal boarding and hospitalization wards were added. Many individuals and veterinary associates have contributed time, energy and expertise in the expansion and development of the practice over the decades. Today the practice is owned and managed by Drs. Perry and Corinne Spitzer. The veterinary care team consists of many individuals with a broad range of skills and interests in large and small animal veterinary care. Today, as in previous decades, we endeavour to continually provide dependable, available, progressive veterinary care to our clients and patients. Together we are the North Peace Veterinary Clinic, founded in our community, committed to our community, and proud to provide veterinary care for our community.

Paisley came to visit us as she was uncomfortable and urinating more frequently than usual. On examination, Dr. North could feel her full, solid bladder and suspected Paisley had bladder stones that were causing her discomfort and abnormal urination. X-rays confirmed Dr. North's suspicion, and Paisley was taken to surgery to have the stones removed. No wonder she felt better when the multiple angular urinary stones were removed! Lab analysis of the stones determined they are 100% struvite stones. A prescription diet for life to prevent them reoccurring will help keep Paisley happy and healthy!

The importance of permanent identification!

'Athena' had been missing from home for 2 YEARS! Because of her tattoo we were finally able to reunite her with her family after she was found and brought to our clinic by a good Samaritan. Permanent identification can be a tattoo, microchip or both. Tattoos are a form of visual identification, that are typically a series of letters/numbers (usually placed in the right ear) that is linked to the owner's file. Microchips are placed under the skin, about the size of a grain of rice, which has a unique number. A found animal could be brought to a facility with a microchip scanner to find the owner. Microchips can be placed at any time, whereas a tattoo has to done while the pet is under anesthesia, typically done at the time of spay or neuter.

Happy Halloween! It's a fun day for kids and families, but not always for our pets. Keep everyone safe by following these tips... and keeping candy out of pets' reach to avoid xylitol and chocolate toxicity.

Our Story

The North Peace Veterinary Clinic is proud to provide veterinary care to the Fort St. John community for over 50 years. From its inception we have served our community providing veterinary care to families, family pets, horses and family farms. Today the practice is owned and managed by Drs. Perry and Corinne Spitzer. Our veterinary care team consists of many individuals with a broad range of skills and passions in large and small animal veterinary medicine and surgery.

The practice has continually evolved with many team members contributing time, energy and expertise in the expansion and development of the practice over the decades. In the early years the practice was located in the basement of the Wood family home. Farm calls were many and often cows and horses were cared for in the carport with the blessing of the neighbours. Continual growth and expansion necessitated the construction of the current clinic in 1974, an addition to the building in 1989, and several renovations over the next 2 decades. In 2013 we opened the latest addition with a new large animal facility, small animal boarding and hospitalization wards.

Today, as in previous decades, we strive to continually adapt to the evolution of veterinary medicine and our community’s veterinary care needs. Our team is proud to continue North Peace Veterinary Clinic’s legacy of providing dependable, available, progressive veterinary care to our clients and patients. Together we are the North Peace Veterinary Clinic, founded in our community, for our community, for over 50 years.
