Fort Saskatchewan RCMP investigating armed robbery in Bruderheim

Bruderheim, Alta. – On November 15, 2024, at approximately 1:35 a.m., Fort Saskatchewan RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of an armed robbery at the Victoria Hotel in Bruderheim. Two suspects, each holding a firearm, entered the bar, told the patrons to get on the floor and proceeded to take money from the cash register. Neither the staff nor patrons were hurt during the robbery. The suspects left the hotel and exited the town of Bruderheim.

At approximately 6:15 a.m the Strathcona RCMP were called to an abandoned vehicle at range road 211 and township road 544 which had been involved in a single motor vehicle collision. There was evidence that this recovered vehicle was connected to the earlier robbery. The vehicle was a grey, 2007 Infinity G35. No suspects were at the scene.

Fort Saskatchewan RCMP continue to investigate and are looking to speak with anyone who has any details regarding this incident, who possess security video that may have captured the suspect vehicle within Bruderheim or anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious within the town of Bruderheim on November 14th or 15th. RCMP in Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., are looking for help identifying who is responsible for killing two puppies and dumping the bodies on a city pathway.

RCMP put out the call Monday in a media release about the case that started more than a month ago. On Aug. 5, officers answered a complaint of the two dead dogs on a path parallel to Highway 15 near 95 Street.

Police said the puppies, believed to be eight-to-12-week-old yellow Labrador retrievers, were dead before they were placed along the pathway across from the Walmart parking lot.

A necropsy performed Aug. 14 found the dogs died at the hands of humans and suffered significant trauma, RCMP said.

Anyone with information about the deaths, including elements such as advertisements of puppies for sale or witnessing anything suspicious, is asked to call the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP detachment at 780-997-7900. "

High speed chase ends with four arrested in Lamont by Jana Semeniuk

A high-speed chase with police on Jan. 14 ended in the arrest of four people in Lamont. Cst. Lauren Mowbray with the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP said charges are pending.
“Everything is just preliminary and still under investigation,” she said. “If after we deem that there are charges going to be laid, once those are sworn then names and more information will be released.”
Mowbray said the drama began in Fort Saskatchewan with RCMP responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle at 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 14. A high-speed chase ensued with at least two additional detachments from Sherwood Park and Vegreville assisting.
While residents reported seeing guns drawn when the chase ended in the town of Lamont on Highway 15 and 50th Street, Mowbray could not confirm.
“I can’t confirm anything at this point,” she said. “If that were the case, there was potentially a high-risk roadside stop conducted.”
No injuries have so far been reported in the incident.
More information to come in this week's Leader.

Alberta RCMP educates motorists on child seat safety

Edmonton - The November, Alberta RCMP wants to ensure you and your little ones are properly buckled up. Drivers are responsible for ensuring all passengers under 16 years of age are properly restrained, that is why it is crucial motorists understand rules and regulation of child safety seats. When used correctly, these restraint systems can save lives and reduce injury.

From birth until 2 years of age:

A child is safest in a rear-facing car seat until they are at least 2 years old or reach the maximum weight and height limit for rear-facing seats.
From 2 years of age until 6 years of age (or weighing 40 lbs):

Children under six years of age, weighing 18 kg (40 lbs) or less, must be properly restrained in a forward-facing car seat.
Children over 6 years of age or weighing more than 40 lbs:

It is highly recommended that children over the age of six use a booster seat until they reach the maximum height and weight (as stated by the manufacturer) and a seat belt fits properly. Each vehicle is different, so make sure to confirm the guidelines as per your vehicle’s manufacturer.
If placing the booster seat on a seat without a headrest, make sure to use a high back booster seat to provide head and neck support.
All drivers should note:

Always install all child safety seats, including booster seats, in the rear seat.
A child safety seat must have a Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards sticker on it to prove it meets national safety standards.
Confirm whether the car seat should be installed using a universal anchorage system (UAS) or a seat belt.
It is not recommended that you purchase a pre-owned car seat as they may be damaged, recalled, or expired, and may not meet current safety standards.
“When used correctly, child safety restraints can reduce fatal injuries and save lives. Young passengers are dependent on adults to ensure they are properly buckled up when out on our roadways. Last year, Alberta RCMP issued 86 tickets to motorists for failing to properly restrain young passengers, and 114 tickets for not using a child restraint at all,” says Sgt. Darrin Turnbull, Alberta RCMP Traffic Services. “Our children rely on us. Take the time to learn how to secure them properly and keep them safe.”
