Fun Fact! Dogs noses are wet to absorb scent chemicals! They have mucus glands in their nose which produces mucus. This then absorbs sent chemicals and gives dogs an amazing sense of smell.

Rookie rolls with the teenager crew for walks and it’s such a good fit for him so he can blow some of that energy out with other energetic pups and friends😊. Some of his besties include Shadow, Willow, Koda, Ember and Henry!

Canine cough - often referred to as “Kennel cough” is an infection that causes inflammation in a dogs voice box and is similar to a chest cold in humans.

While Canine Cough is NOT currently going around, it is always a good idea to watch for symptoms, especially during this time of year.

Symptoms include:

🦠 Coughing
🦠 Sneezing
🦠 Runny eyes

It can be spread the same way sickness spreads to us. Either airborne, dog to dog contact or contact with a contaminated item.

The incubation period for kennel cough is between 5-7 days which makes it difficult to control in places with lots of dogs eg: Daycares, dog parks, veterinary offices, groomers etc.

Vaccination, although not 100% effective, is your best chance at preventing or minimizing symptoms of Canine cough in your dog. Which is why Dogtrix requires that ALL dogs be vaccinated for this along with their other standard vaccinations.

At Dogtrix we do our very best to keep these viruses away by regularly cleaning and disinfecting all the surfaces your dog comes in contact with. As well, we recirculate the air regularly through the building to keep it fresh.

Please don’t bring your dog to daycare if they are experiencing any symptoms.

This is a great time to make sure your vaccines are up to date.
