COUNTERFEIT CASH OPERATION LEADS TO ARRESTS IN MADOC TOWNSHIP

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) East Region Community Street Crime Unit and Central Hastings Detachment have made arrests in connection with a counterfeit cash investigation.

A Central Hastings officer responded just before 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked on Crookston Road.

It was confirmed that one person in the vehicle had an outstanding arrest warrant and was arrested. A subsequent search of the vehicle located a quantity of counterfeit cash as well as the equipment and materials used to make it.

This resulted in the other person in the vehicle being arrested as well.

CSCU and Central Hastings OPP members executed a search warrant at a residence on Cooper Road on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, and seized more counterfeit cash and additional materials and equipment.

The value of the completed and partially completed counterfeit cash is into the thousands of dollars.

As a result of the investigation, Lisa DUDGEON, age 44, and Ryan BAXTER, age 40, both from Madoc Township, have been charged under the Criminal Code with:
•Making counterfeit money
•Possessing counterfeit money

BAXTER has also been charged with breach of recognizance.

Both of the accused remain in custody and are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on Friday, September 13, 2024.

Any businesses in the area that believe they may have received counterfeit cash should contact the Central Hastings OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident E241212964.

WANTED: The Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (R.O.P.E.) Squad is requesting the public's assistance in locating a federal offender wanted on a Canada Wide Warrant as a result of a breach of their Statutory Release.

Mohamed AHMED is described as a black male, 25 years of age, 5'10" (178cm), 189 lbs (86kg) with black hair and brown eyes.

Mohamed AHMED is serving a 3-year, 3-month sentence for:
•Aggravated assault X 2
•Discharge Restricted/Prohibited Firearm with intent
•Possession of a prohibited restricted firearm with ammunition X 2
•Assault with intentional use of force

The offender is known to frequent the Greater Toronto Area.

AS OF 13:55 TORNADO WARNING ISSUED FOR APSLEY, FENELON FALLS AND BALSAM LAKE AREA

According to Police and EMS dispatch a Tornado warning has been issued for the Apsley area / Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm that is possibly producing a tornado. Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado is located 6 kilometres west of Lake Couchiching, moving northeast at 70 km/h.

Hazards: Tornado, 120 km/h wind gusts and nickel size hail.

Sever Thunderstorm Watch

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Hazards: 100 km/h wind gusts toonie sized hail, risk of a tornado

Timing: This afternoon and evening.
Discussion: Thunderstorms will develop along a cold front that will move through the province this afternoon and evening. The main threat will be strong winds and hail. However, a tornado will also be possible.

Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water. Lightning kills and injures canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: Large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
