Blackwood Rats

The 3 Pairs of Rat babies I had available to new homes were adopted to their new families on a basis of chronology and family suitability/gender preference.

If you weren't contacted, don't worry- March will have a few more pairs going home and by April I should be back to my standard 4-8 pairs per month.

I had such a backlog of requests, and so many of you reached out after my last post that many folks haven't recieved a response yet as I only had the time to go down the first bit of the list, coordinate a few adoptions and not time to contact all who responded- which I will be doing in the next couple weeks.

I have a small questionnaire I'm working on to better assess my clients preferences/their interests (cuddle bugs, smart rats, playful guys, what colours and coats etc) and knowledge base re: care. I'm hoping this will help streamline my go home info, sort the huge waitlist and make it easier for me to have time for the level of communication and customer service I used to.

SO I will be sending that out in the next two weeks,to anyone who's contacted me in the past 6-8 weeks. I'll be using it as a jump off for making a plan to get healthy happy babies to all the families who want them in the near future, and make sure everyone has the right fit.

UPDATE: Dear Customers

I have been on Hiatus since Early Summer. We had an unexpected death in the family which was impacting for everyone and as they were also involved in the business, it had far reaching implications for the other branches that took my focus away from the rats. Going through loss, and a separation as well meant my 3 children needed my attention and when a large section of your work is animal care that means the day to day tasks come first and aspects of what I do for the love of it, like breeding rats for pet homes, ends up on the back burner. The original animals that founded my main line, Badger/Ghost/Gator all passed at almost 3 years old within a month of each other. Obviously a massive blow- many of you met my boys and have their descendants, they were the very best.

I simply didn't pair for a month or two and by the time I came up for air my message folder had over 60+ inquiries and I wasn't pairing, and didn't have time/energy to wade through and explain to everyone why I needed the break . Fast forward another few months and im ready to start pairing again but of course there are 5x that many messages now and it all seems very daunting to go through.

The rats are paired again, babies are born and I will have some available but very few initially and I want to be fair!

If you are a previous client looking to adopt, or you have messaged me previously looking and not recieved a response but are still interested, please comment "Interested!- Boys" or "Interested!- Girls" and I will know who's messages to search for in my terrifying inbox mountain.

January was a WILD month for Blackwood with our off season ending earlier this year than most! Lots of successful pairings, enclosure orders and of course- beautiful baby rats being born!

EDIT(02/11/22): Will be listing over the next few days, and will be allowing pickup Feb. 17/22 through Feb. 20/22

We have a few pairs of males and a couple pairs of females who I will be listing tomorrow, all ready to go home Feb 12/22 just in time for Valentines day 🖤

Coat colours: Russian Blue, DWS, American Blue, Fawn, Cinnamon, RB Beige- half the litter is also Marten

Markings: Perfect Blazes, White Side selfs, Hooded, Bareback/DWS

Coat Varieties: Satin and Teddy Rex (Rex/Velveteen)- unfortunately no hairless this month but hopefully will have some for my waitlists early March 🤞

The SWEETEST temperments we've produced all year and for clients who have brought home our babies already, you know that's a high bar.

Availability Update!

With a busy summer and a covid-crazy fall for my family we've skipped multiple pairing cycles and then had been pairing less- this meant lots of messages and people waiting excitedly for babies to be listed!

Litter 1: 3 males, 3 females
Ready to go home Nov.4/Nov.5

Litter 2: 6 males (3 recessive hairless), 3 females
Ready to go home Nov.18/Nov.19

*Note: Pups from both litters are cohabitating (divided by gender) between 3.5-6.5 weeks and although all rats must go in pairs, those pairs can be comprised of either litter as they'll be familiar with one another.

The New Brunswick Reptile & Pet Expo is approaching and with 1 day left its a prep crunch over here getting ready for our first ever expo!

We will be bringing some available male and female pet rattos to the expo (including some not listed here), as well as a few Rat Logo T-Shirts!

I'd love to see some of my Moncton rat clients swing by or if you've been considering rats as pets come visit and let the little guys convince you 🥰

Went through and did the photos and responses!

We have lots of wee babies I'll be posting gender sorted photos of soon for wait lists! They'll be available for reservation near the end of this week/early next :) They'll be ready to go home next month, mid August. (Some pictured below)

I'm just waiting on a response from a couple of clients who had first call on the older litter ready to go home July 24/25th, once I hear back from them I'll be posting the remaining pups! At this point all females are reserved but I will have 2-3 males looking for their families! (Not pictured yet)

TODAY IS THE DAY!

That I answer all the messages, forward all the photos I'm a week plus behind on and post litter availability!

I have a few existing clients who have been beyond patient while my busy season smooshes me, they'll recieve their right to refusal and photos first but there are enough babies that there will be availability posted later tonight afterwards.

Again, thank you to all of you for your patience, im only one floofy lady and literally every one of you has been sweet as heck while I run behind 🖤

I will also be posting a few photos of younger babies not quite ready to be listed yet, and taking a wait list for when theyre ready to be reserved later this month- all dumbos 😉

We have four fluffy little dumbo sheep looking for loving families! Born June 1/21, ready to go home July 14/21

All males, all rex, all dumbo- These babies are all Himalayan and will have their points darken further as they age, though some are blue point and may have lighter grey tones to their points instead of brown.

The two capped pups are also Himalayan but you won't necessarily be able to tell aside from some slight darkening on the rump/in front of the tail.

All pups must go home in pairs and on pet contract 🥰

I said I'd post litter availability today, but as a mother and an indigenous woman, I don't have the heart to do so.

Sending up song and prayer for all the little lost ones found discarded in Kamloops, BC and may their bodies be returned to the arms of sisters, brothers, parents, aunties and elders to be laid with their spirit in territory to rest.

Please have patience as our community grieves.

Good Morning everyone! May has been a crazy busy month BUT its time to introduce you guys to some new pups and see whats available :)

For the first time ever I'll be able to offer recessive hairless babies as well!

Pictured: Birdy (Doe/Dam), a male blaze satin son, and a female blaze velveteen daughter from her most recent litter.

These little guys have went to their new homes but this is a great example of how strong my blaze lines' expression is! Out of 15, this litter produced 5 perfectly blazed babies that were of 4 different colour varieties and 2 different coat types.

Looking forward to bringing this blaze line into my black and husky projects!
