This Training will be held at the Academy so if any one that usually brings in dogs to students would like a Saturday appointment we have training from 8am till 12pm and are looking for Mainly Curly type coat and Double coated thick coat ... Let us know asap :) Staff from Grooming Tails Pet Salon will be working on them.

We are doing some training with the staff and are in need of a few good dogs to prefect our prepping skills. Never hurts to be sure your staff is all on the same page in make your pooches look beautiful. Please if you have a dog that you think might work for this training send us a message with a picture so we can choose a few good dogs!

Some Assistant Pet Stylist 101 certificates were given out this week. These students are progressing nicely and we start the Finishing Pet Stylist 102 portion of the course next week. Can’t wait to see these students learning how to safely and correctly take the steps needed to become a successful pet stylist.

Looking for Double coated breeds like in the picture below for this upcoming week. Students are almost ready to do there practical on this type of coat. I forgot to post about my weekend last week. As an instructor of an academy for learning how to groom I feel continuing my own education just as much as I preach to my students that they will never stop learning. It was a wonderful weekend hosted by UKAL and some fabulously talented and educated professional groomers. Thanks for a great weekend … I loved seeing some fellow groomers that have become friends over the years.

There's a big scam that most professional groomers are aware of, but many owners seeking to own a poodle do not.

There are only THREE sizes of poodles recognized in the US. The standard poodle, who came first and was bred as a working retriever, should stand 18-24 inches tall at the withers (the top of the shoulder near the base of the neck).
Next comes the miniature poodle bred down in size as a truffle hunter. Miniatures stand 11-15 inches tall at the withers.
Lastly, there is the toy poodle bred down to be a companion animal. Toy poodles should stand 9.5-11 inches tall at the withers.
In the UK four sizes are recognized for those between miniatures and standards.

What there is not, and where the scam comes in, are 'king' standards or 'teacup' toys. These terms should be an immediate red flag. Reputable breeders do not use these terms to describe extra large standards or the runt of a toy poodle litter. They do not tout these terms to charge you more for a poodle that doesn't meet standards. In fact, these pups are usually sold for less with spay/neuter contracts because they do not meet the standards of the breed.

Don't hand your money to a greeder who sells pups to make money and you end up with a poodle with all kinds of health issues. Get in contact with a breeder who puts everything into bettering the breed and creating healthier dogs. You and your new pup deserve a lot of years together!
