📢 Great news for Canadian donors! 🇨🇦

The Honourable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Finance, and the Honourable Élisabeth Brière, Minister of National Revenue, have announced that the federal government will amend the Income Tax Act to extend the deadline for making donations eligible for tax support in the 2024 tax year until **February 28, 2025**.

This extension helps ensure that the generous contributions made to Canadian charities, especially during the holiday season, are fully recognized for tax purposes. With the recent Canada Post mail stoppage, this extra time will help donations reach charities, ensuring they can continue to provide vital services to those in need.

Canada's charities are working hard to fight poverty, improve socioeconomic outcomes, and connect communities. Let’s continue supporting them and making a positive impact! 💙

**🌟 2024 Year in Review – Gananoque & District Humane Society 🌟**

As we look back on 2024, we are filled with gratitude and pride for all the incredible moments and milestones we've shared with our community, volunteers, donors, and, of course, the animals we've had the privilege of helping. 🐾

Here are just a few highlights from an unforgettable year:

🐱 **Adopted & Loved**: We found forever homes for many cats and kittens, each with their own special journey. From kittens to senior cats, we're so grateful to our adopters for giving these animals the love they deserve!

❤️ **Rescue & Rehabilitation**: This year, we took in many cats and kittens that needed rescue, providing them with the medical care, rehabilitation, and love they needed to thrive. Every recovery story is a testament to the hard work of our dedicated team and supporters.

💪 **Community Support**: Thanks to the generosity of our donors, sponsors, and volunteers, we were able to continue our essential programs, including spay/neuter initiatives and emergency medical care. Your support made it all possible!

🎉 **Fundraisers & Events**: Our events this year – from the Pancake and Maple Syrup Fundraiser to our Gift Card Tree Raffle – were a huge success! Every penny raised helps us continue our mission to improve the lives of animals in our care.

As we step into 2025, we remain committed to our mission of helping animals in need and strengthening the bond between people and pets. Thank you for being part of this journey. Together, we can make the next year even brighter for our furry friends.

Happy New Year, from all of us at the Gananoque & District Humane Society! 🐾❤️

Wishing everyone a safe and Happy New Year 🎊 All the best to you in 2025‼️🐾

😥Animal Rescue Reality Check😥

With all the compassion fatigue warnings, we would like to remind all rescuers (including ourselves) that it is okay to say no, it’s okay to shut your phone off, it’s okay to make a bad decision, it’s okay to fall asleep, it’s okay to leave the litter box until morning.

For people needing a rescuer, please make it as easy as possible. Do not ask for a miracle, do not blame if something goes wrong, do not expect your rescuer to do everything for you. Make an effort to help! Offer to help transport, offer to donate money or goods.

Rescuers have a hard time saying no, it eats them alive. They have a heart and mind that won’t stop thinking about a dying animal. An animal they could help if only they had the energy, If only they had the time, if only they had the money, if only someone would help.

Trust us, if you are asking a rescuer for help, that rescuer has at least 10 other people asking along with you in a given day. Along with running to pick up, drop off, go to vet appointments, save lives, bottle feed, deal with feeding, cleaning and medicating and answering messages- we all have families and full time jobs as we are unpaid volunteers.

We may sometimes choose what we do, but rescuers are who we are.

PLEASE BE KIND TO YOUR RESCUER!!
