Sunny with a chance of ticks?
With temperature fluctuations at this time of year, checking your weather forecast helps you decide if you need sunglasses, snow boots, or a sweater!

But what about ticks – could ticks be active in your area today? Visit www.tickmaps.ca to get a 2-week ‘tick risk forecast’ or check what days in the last 12 months had potential tick activity.

Regardless of the time of year it is important to remain vigilant and recognize that ticks may still pose a risk to pets and people.

Good oral health is more than just a pretty smile.
A complete oral examination can detect hidden health problems. Even if your pet’s breath smells fine, there still could be dental conditions that are hard to spot without a complete veterinary exam.

Schedule your pet’s dental checkup with us now. We’ll do a thorough checkup to make sure your pet is at optimum health. We also can show you how to brush your pet’s teeth in between exams. Brushing is the single most effective thing you can do to keep your pet’s teeth healthy between dental cleanings.

If You’re Cold, Your Pet is Cold Too! 🥶

It's a common misconception that pets, especially those with thick coats, are immune to the chill. But just like us, animals can suffer from frostbite and hypothermia if exposed to freezing temperatures for too long. Even thick-coated breeds like Huskies or Malamutes, who are built for colder climates, can still feel the effects of extreme cold.

For dogs with short coats or smaller breeds, consider investing in a warm sweater or dog coat. This can make a big difference during those brisk walks around the block! Also, don't forget to protect your dog’s feet with booties—just make sure they fit properly to avoid discomfort.

Keep Cats Inside and Cozy!
While cats naturally find the warmest hiding spots, they too can be vulnerable to the cold if temperatures drop too low. Hypothermia and frostbite are real risks, especially in extreme weather. Keep your cat indoors during severe cold snaps or storms—there’s no reason to take chances when they could be safely curled up on the couch!

Just like people, pets' cold tolerance can vary from pet to pet based on their coat, body fat stores, activity level, and health.
Be aware of your pet's tolerance for cold weather, and adjust accordingly. You will probably need to shorten your dog's walks in very cold weather to protect you both from weather-associated health risks
