As a Barn owner, especially when we have horses with such different needs, I think it's important to feed grain at least 1x a day. Some say they get fat on air. For those a Ration Balancer would be perfect for that horse.
Just like us, each horse has different requirements.
I personally own a 22 year old Throughbread, who can be a hard keeper. While she did well this summer on a RB, she has since moved back to her Senior Feed. As the seasons start to change and the grass starts growing a little slower. We dont wait to see if she will drop a bit. I have a gelding that doesn't require anything more than the RB and Camelina oil.
Feed is not a one size fits all. It's finding what your horse requires and making sure they are getting that. We will work with your feed regime.
All the grain and supplements you supply will only be used for your horse. We do not share/borrow any of yours for another horse.
Included in outdoor board is 1x a day grain (Grain & Supplements provided by owner). We also suppy beet pulp/ hay cubes. If your horse requires more than 1x a day grain we offer add ons to your board to make it right for you and your horse.

New Matching Winter Blankets and Rain sheets. I'd like to say that's all, but it isn't. Some of their Blankets that made it through last winter were still available so I ordered those for Delilah and Monty.

The horses had a special visit from their favorite body work lady today. Sage has been taped up to help with some swelling in her lower leg and enjoying a wee nap after such a relaxing session. 😌

Inara finally has a herd of her own. This independent beauty has been a bit of a challenge to find her, her herd. She prefers to be on her own, but yet wants some horsey friends. After a few play dates it seems she has settled nicely in. The little filly wants desperately to be her friend, maybe one day Strawberry. Happy Horses is all we want.

The horses love to roam and graze. We like to open different fields for them. These 4 love the shady field. Also gives the younger ones a chance to really stretch their legs.

Have you heard of the benefits of Red Light Therapy and Near Infared Therapy for your horse?

Sage has DSLD and gets a lot of swelling in her lower back legs. Since starting the Therapy sessions I've noticed a difference in her movement and swelling. She's been running around with the herd more.

Our machines go from 630 nm (RLT) to 850 nm (NIR). We have the stand machine, 2 cuffs, one large pad, and a handheld to really target any areas.

Here are some of the issues RLT/NIR Therapy can help with:

Joint pain (from osteoarthritis, or overuse injury that has led to cartilage degradation),
Wounds,
Connective tissue injuries (sprains and strains of ligaments and tendons),

Sage would like to let everyone know we have availability for outdoor board in June. With our good friend following her dream and buying her own property we have 4 horses leaving.

Outdoor board includes 24/7 (365 days a year) hay, water and shelter. Hay is not removed or reduced in summer months. We at Sage Stables believe there is no option BUT 24/7 hay.

1 grain feeding a day (grain provided by owner, Hay cubes provided by us).

Tack area to keep all your gear.

Paddocks that are cleaned regularly.

Removal/ add of blankets and fly masks when needed. Provided by owner.

Small outdoor ridding area.

25+ acres to hack on.

Light grooming when needed. We don't let your horse sit in mud or in need of a deshed.

Our boarding facility is perfect for those who need retirement board or those who pleasure ride and are looking for a quiet barn.

Answers regarding the 1 a day feeding for outdoor horses.

- We don't supply the grain. If you supply the grain we are more than happy to feed your horse once a day. This feed is included in your board.

- We do offer 2x a day feeding. There is an extra cost, but we are more than happy to add your horse to the second feed program.

- We don't share your feed, If one horse is out and your horse still has feed we never take from yours. We have multiple containers of the same feed for different horses. What you supply is only for your horse.

- We do not carry back up feed for your horse, so if it's not provided we can't cover the cost. We do have options to add the cost of grain into your board.

- Horses learn quickly where there feed is. We always put their feed in the same place. When the gate is open, each horse goes to their proper spot. It takes a few days of us reminding them, but after that they always go to their feed spot.

- Slow eating horses, or horses that require medication at feeding come into the barn or go into another area with slower eating horses. We always ensure your horse is getting their full feed.

- Yes, if you provide supplements we will add them to your horses feed. No we do not use your supplements on any other horse. Boarders are not allowed in the feed room so you don't have to worry about your supplements being used on another horse.

- We've included this in their board because we believe the benefits of a balanced diet are important to their overall health.

- If you'd like to add Hay cubes or beat pulp to your horses diet, let us know. We soak ours in hot water prior. It guarantees everything is soft when the horses are eating.

Warm sunny evenings are on their way. I have to say Spring (even with the mud, the 100s of blanket changes, the rain and looking at the weather app more than my social media) is my favorite time of year. Just watching everything become green again. The horses know the warmer days are coming too.

At Sage Stables we understand that life gets busy. That's why it's our job to offer your horse the best care. What we offer in our outdoor board.

- 24/7 access to Hay, water and shelter. (Summer and winter. We believe grass is great, but also the choice for hay is a must)

- 1 feed per day, feed provided by owner. (If your horse requires grain more than once a day arrangements can be made)

- Daily check in with each horse. We look them over for any injuries, and we check in to make sure there are no behaviour changes.

- Medication given at feeding. (If your horse requires medication more than once a day arrangements can be made)

- In the event of a large shift in temperature that day, we can remove or add a blanket on your horse. Blankets to be kept in good wear and provided by owners. (Can't commit to making it up for blanket changes, we have an optional blanket program in those months where we have temperatures changes).

- Need us to meet and hold your horse for vet or farrier? Let us know and arrangements can be made.

- Stalls available for emergencies.
