Little Mittens Animal Rescue Association

Little Mittens Animal Rescue Association We work to give all animals, domestic and wild, a second chance at life. We are now a Registered Charity with the CRA!

This is achieved through domestic rescue and adoption in Golden and surrounding area and through wildlife rehabilitation through the Kootenays, Columbia Valley, and Revelstoke areas. This means we can now offer tax deductible receipts for your generous donations. If you require one, please make a note of this and include your name and mailing address. You can donate through PayPal on our website,

through e-transfer, or by mail delivery. Through our Domestic Rescue and Adoption programs we work to find homeless animals in the Golden area loving furrever homes. We are also available to help take in rehome animals if circumstances change and they are in need of a new home. For Wildlife Rehabilitation, we cover the Kootenays, Columbia Valley, and Revelstoke areas. Our certified rehabbers work with our veterinarian to give injured and orphaned wild animals a chance to heal, grow, and be released back into the wild.

We’re reaching out in hopes of finding support or a potential foster/adoption solution for these two adventurous brothers, Tundra and Timber.

Age: Approximately 2.5 years

Breed: mixed (husky? Heeler? Australian shepherd?)

Temperament: Curious, adventurous teens

Training: Both are kennel trained and doing well in their foster home

Tundra: Leash reactive, especially when with Timber. Will act aggressively toward loose dogs to protect his brother. Alone, he’s still reactive but significantly calmer.

Timber: On his own, friendly and excited to meet other dogs, though a bit too forward at times. Enjoys play and generally does well with other dogs.

While ideally these bonded siblings would stay together, we are open to separating them to increase their chances of finding the right homes.
Anyone that adopts one or both these boys will recieve a free training session with a certified trainer to get you off on the right paw.

If you cannot personally provide a home please share far and wide, it is time for these wonderful boys to have a forever home, even if it means not being together.

Hope to see you all there tomorrow night!

The Art of Dog Language

Dogs communicate primarily non-verbally, and as humans, we either miss or misinterpret these signals. This seminar will teach you the subtle ways dogs communicate with each other and with you. Understanding this language will help you with every aspect of dog guardianship. Join us for this human-only learning event.

LOST DOG EDUCATION

Lost Dogs in “Flight Mode”

When a dog becomes lost, their instincts take over. Even friendly, well-trained pets can shift into flight mode, where survival—not familiarity—drives every decision. Understanding these behaviors is critical to bringing them home safely.

Fleeing

A lost dog’s first instinct is often to run. Sudden movements, voices, headlights, or people approaching can trigger panic. The dog is not being stubborn or disobedient—they are reacting instinctively to perceived danger. Chasing or calling typically causes the dog to run farther and faster.

Evading

As time passes, lost dogs learn to avoid people altogether. They may change routes, move under cover of darkness, or circle wide around areas of activity. Even owners calling gently can cause a dog in flight mode to slip away unseen.

Hiding

When exhausted or overwhelmed, lost dogs seek quiet hiding spots—under porches, sheds, decks, in woods, or along riverbanks. These areas feel safe and allow the dog to rest. Disturbing these hiding places can force the dog back into flight mode and push them out of the area.

Escaping

Lost dogs become surprisingly skilled at escaping. They may squeeze through small openings, crawl under fences, cross dangerous terrain, or travel long distances to avoid interaction. This is why uncoordinated searches can unintentionally make recovery more difficult.

Why This Matters

Lost dogs don’t respond the way we expect because they aren’t thinking like pets—they’re thinking like survivors.

Quiet, patience, and experienced recovery methods allow dogs to settle, remain close, and eventually be brought to safety.

UPDATE: FRIDGE FOUND - A big thank you to Jeanette Jackson for her donation.

Our wildlife shelter’s fridge/freezer has officially died, and we urgently need a replacement to keep our animal patients safe and fed. 🐦🦉🦊

In an ideal world, we’d find a generous soul to donate one, but we can also use our food funds if needed to purchase it. Any help, shares, or leads would mean the world!
