A Lola (Eve) update šŸ’–āœØ

A testament of resilience, staying pawsitive and overcoming the odds. Lola came to our shelter on Christmas Eve after being rescued by a concerned family in Sandy Point. She was in very hard shape, skin over bone but purring and headbutting all of us. (Left side pictures when she first arrived) Luckily the vet was able to fit her in (on Christmas Eve!ā¤ļøšŸ’š) and we were all horrified when her X-rays showed a pellet bullet lodged in her tiny body. Miraculously this tiny 5 pound cat had not only survived being shot, she had healed, all before being rescued. Lolaā€™s last visit to the vet for recheck was a very positive one. Her bloodwork has levelled out, she passed the ā€œbones and rocksā€ that were in her stomach on her own with consistent food and she is gaining weight steadily. At this time our vet (in consultation with surgeon) believe removing the bullet may do more harm than good. She is stable, happy and a true warrior!

Lola has the go ahead to be released to FSAR Feral Soul Animal Rescue who originally rescued her years ago. They say anyone interested in adopting her can head to their page to see updates and fill out an application. Happy ever after Lola aka our little Christmas Eve! šŸ’–āœØ

ā€œOn Saturday a kitten was left at the shelter door while staff were on lunch break. As we have stated previously, this was unacceptable and left the kitten in unnecessary danger. Please always contact the shelter to make arrangements before bringing in animals. Before staff retuned from lunch, a couple driving by saw the kitten and went to help him. Rather than waiting for staff to return, they took him home. When contacted they refused to return the kitten so that we could have it vet checked and to follow the proper approval process for rehoming/adopting animals.

The couple who removed the kitten from the SPCA premises were initially told that they could complete an adoption application for the kitten but refused to do so. The SPCA then learned that they werenā€™t approved by other rescues for adoption and so had to involve the RCMP to assist with retrieving the kitten. As with all animals adopted through the SPCA, anyone would need to follow the approval process. To clarify this is not about an adoption fee it is a procedure that everyone must follow to adopt from the SPCA.

A reminder that this page is for animals who need to find homes, our policies and procedures are not up for debate. We will not entertain any hateful comments/foul language. The people attacking an animal rescue organization for doing its soul purpose will be blocked.

The shelter staff have been receiving threatening voicemails and emails. This is not acceptable and as such we will be following up with the RCMP.

Thank you to our supporters and to the RCMP for their assistance with this case.ā€

UPDATE - abandoned kitten

Just a few days into the new year and already a very disturbing situation happened. This sweet kitten was left outside the shelter in a box while the staff were on lunch break. Upon reviewing the surveillance camera footage it was painful watching for 10 minutes while the person stuffs him in our mailbox multiple times (which he frantically tries to get out of and succeeds) so they then try to force him into boxes (which he was also trying to frantically get out of.) If you look at their pillow itā€™s covered in p*e from the kitten p*eing all over himself, clearly struggling and absolutely terrified.

There is just NO reason to do this. The individual who left him states he was brought home by their daughter because the original owner of the kittens were taking them to the dump. šŸ¤Æ
PLEASE if you know of this situation, PLEASE contact! We will take the full litter of kittens gladly. Any litter! This madness needs to stop.

Luckily this kitten was able to be caught but he didnā€™t need to go through this. He has a home already and is going to be fine.
Please share so his brothers & sisters can be as lucky.

UPDATE: we have received info on who dropped the kitten off and who picked up the kitten. Please ALWAYS remember all you have to do is call or message a rescue or SPCA to avoid this. Leaving a kitten in a box in a snow storm is NEVER the answer. This will be an ongoing RCMP investigation.

ā€¼ļøURGENTā€¼ļø

There was a kitten left in a box on the SPCA step at 1220pm today, by the time the staff came back from lunch at 1pm the kitten had escaped the box. We have reviewed the camera footage and it appears to be a small tuxedo kitten. Luckily a passerby sees the kitten on top of the box and comes to take him/her. Please share, we need to reach this individual! Call 709-489-3604 with any info.

love people and are good with kids. They have been around other dogs and been fine.

All they really need is love, attention and each other. They are so bonded. They are house pets who have never been used for hunting. A fenced in yard is a must as they are typical Beagle wanderers!

ā£ļøCOURTESY POSTā£ļø

Marshallā€™s not currently at the shelter but may have to come in if he canā€™t find the perfect home first. šŸ™ Marshall was adopted as a kitten and despite great efforts he and his human sibling sadly do not mix. He is looking for a home without any young children! Please share and help him avoid the shelter. šŸ¤žšŸ˜»

A note from his current owner:

ā€œMarshall is a tall, lanky 1.5 year old neutered male. Heā€™s a loving, playful cat who is best suited for a home without young children. Marshall is looking for a loving owner who will give him lots of attention, play with him, and ensure that he gets the cat food and cat treats that he likes most! He has never been around dogs so itā€™s difficult to tell how he would do around them.ā€

UPDATE: Ruff Around the Edges - Dog Training and Rehabilitation had a foster family open up for Rosco!! This means he can go get the training he needs to overcome his biting. Thank you Alisha & crew!!! šŸ˜»ā¤ļø also thank you to everyone interested in giving him a home, you can follow his progress on the Ruff Around the Edges page.

ā£ļøSpecial home neededā£ļø

Rosco was adopted from our shelter about a year and a half ago after his owner died. He went to a busy home with children. Although they tried, theyā€™ve resolved to the fact that they may not be the home he needs. Rosco is now nipping and biting more frequently and they now know he needs a different environment. His original owner was a single older gentleman who lived alone. We were told Rosco did well with children/animals of all kind but maybe that was in smaller doses. He doesnā€™t like sudden movements and is stressed by change. Rosco does great with other dogs and might like a home where he could have a dog sibling to learn from. Heā€™s around 5-6 years old, neutered, fully vetted. He needs an *experienced* home to help curb this bad behaviour. We will not consider any homes with children. Rosco is small, around 20 pounds. He enjoys walks and car rides. He is on the wait list to potentially go to a training facility but weā€™ve decided to post incase a perfect home can be found.

Seriously applicants only please! He is a dog who will need work. If youā€™re interested in adopting Rosco direct your applications to Ruff Around the Edges.

Eve (Lola) update!

There have been so many messages of concern for this sweet little gal. She is recuperating comfortably in the shelter, pleasant as ever. šŸ¤©ā¤ļø Her recheck is next week. She will have an ultrasound to see if the debris/rocks have moved at all with consistent food. The vets will discuss if surgery to remove the bullet (pellet) is possible/in her best interest now that she is stable. Her face already looks plumper and her eyes brighter. She is truly a little warrior who has been through so much. We have had many inquiries about potentially adopting her but she is not up for adoption at this time.

We are still seeking any information on who would shoot this innocent creature. She was adopted to a home in Peterview March from FSAR Feral Soul Animal Rescue. The owner has been contacted. They state Lola went missing in Sandy Point after jumping out of a car in November. Lola was first seen Christmas week and rescued right away. Her wound from the bullet was completely healed at this point. ANY info please message or call 709-489-3604. All will be kept confidential and is a part of an RCMP investigation.

If you havenā€™t seen her sweet self, here she is in a little video: https://youtube.com/shorts/t7w5WY0yqus?si=Z0ejlPnNWbIquTAo

ADOPTED!

Next up to steal hearts is adorable Ty! He is a Pitbull/Dogo Argentino mix born June 27th 2024. At 6 months old he is very much a puppy who is ready to learn and adapt to any loving home. Ty is already a ā€œnot so gentleā€ giant (around 50-60 pounds already) who doesnā€™t quite know his size or strength. He will need some work on his manners and to learn to not jump when excited. He loves people and just wants attention. For this reason we donā€™t think he would be the best fit for a home with young children though he wouldnā€™t hurt anyone on purpose. Heā€™s just a very bouncy guy! He does know a few commands and is very eager to learn for treats. Ty is said to be great with other dogs but hasnā€™t been around cats previously. Heā€™s not yet neutered but has been vaccinated. If youā€™re interested in this sweet boy please apply at the link below! šŸ¤

ADOPTED!

Miller is a diamond in the rough just waiting to be found. šŸ’Ž He has made so much progress since he first arrived, itā€™s clear he did know human love at one point, just forgot it after a long time surviving on his own. Miller is very shy and scared of other animals. He doesnā€™t have a mean bone in his body and loves soft, slow attention. He will now even let me rub his belly and has the softest fur. Millerā€™s been neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas/parasites and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. He is looking for a quiet and understanding human who has time and patience for him. šŸ¤žšŸ„¹šŸ§”
