Reason 182736828 to get your cats spayed/neutered…. 🙀❤️‍🩹

If you think this post is hard to look at just imagine how Friday felt with this inside her! Poor little doll was living with severe cystic ovaries.. quite literally about to burst! Thank goodness she was able to be spayed today without them rupturing. The vet said there’s no doubt this was causing her pain and that she will feel so much better now. This is our second case of a cat suffering the consequences of not being spayed. Rosa is recovery from mastitis, now Friday was dealing with this. It’s so much kinder to have them fixed and avoid all these potential health concerns.

Thankfully Friday is resting and doing just fine. Her sister Thursday was also spayed today. The girls are on their way to a much better, happier, uterus free lives! They only caused them trouble anyway! The sisters are available 2 for 1 adoption fee. They’ve treated negative for FIV/FeLV and get along with other cats.

Jack went out on trial but just didn’t fit in with the other dog in the home. He is good with dogs but (although he’s neutered) does try to hump them 🤦‍♀️ Oh Jack.. how embarrassing. He’s still available for adoption!

The best news of all - not only are all of mama Tiggers babies adopted.. she is too!!! 🥳🥳🥳

Better yet she is being adopted with her favourite baby, the runt of the litter. Her new mom Sheila can’t wait to get the 2 of them home and sent in this photo of their matching baskets that await them tomorrow morning. With all these kittens coming and going it seems like the right time to highlight our most senior man on scene. 🧓🏻😽 Chance is feeling like he’s hit the jackpot during his recovery at the shelter. He loves being spoiled and hopes to find an owner who will do the same. He’s not big on other animals, especially young ones but would be ok with other seniors who would give him space. Chance was rescued with a very infected abscess on his head and under his chin. He reportedly spent years surviving on his own along with the kindness of many people who would leave food for him. His rescuer finally managed to catch him and now faithfully visits him every week to watch him change and recover. ❤️‍🩹 He still has a ways to go but is over the worst of it and ready to find that special home to love him forever. 🤞 He is a true rescue who appreciates love and attention. We estimated him around 8-10 years old. He’s been neutered, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, vaccinated and dewormed. He has a discounted adoption fee and is looking for a quiet home. The key to his heart is his stomach 🙊 he loves food and spends most of his time snoozing away comfortably.

Chance had a home once and lost it for whatever reason. It’s time he finds one to make up for all the years of love he missed out on while on the run.

If you’re looking for a cool kitty who’s super cool and gets along with everybody - Lewie is your guy! He is so easy going, loves humans and animals alike. He came in as a stray estimated a few years old and was never claimed. He’s since been neutered, vaccinated/dewormed and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Lewie is definitely the full package as far as adoptables go.. he even almost stole a few adopters away from cats they had already chosen! 🙀😹 So that should tell you what a great personality he has. ❤️

Waiting since March & May! It’s hard no to be discouraged, it’s hard not to feel like we are letting these beautiful dogs down. 💔

It’s becoming more and more clear that there is no huge list waiting to adopt dogs in Newfoundland anymore. We have 4 dogs waiting for homes right now. At one time we would have dozens of applications come in for any dog posted. Now it’s much different, especially for dogs who have issues like Jip & Hazel.

Hazel & Jip have had no luck and very little interest. They are both aggressive to other animals and need to be the only pet in the home. They both need experienced owners and people who are committed to them. People who truly want them and will love them.

Hazel has been in our care since March. She absolutely loves the staff and volunteers, a little weary of strangers but warms up quickly. She is so loveable it hurts to know she spends most her time alone. With 4 dogs and 58 cats there is not a lot of one on one time for any of the animals although we try our best. Hazel loves any attention she gets. She has basic training, listens well. She is strong and active but loves flopping down on her bed as well. It is so painful she’s been waiting so long when she has so much love to give. 💔 Hazel is around 6 years old, spayed, fully vaccinated. She needs a home as an only and does have free rehab training (for dog aggression) located in Clarenville.

Jip has similar needs to Hazel. He needs to be the only pet in the home with an experienced owner. He has changed so much since coming to the shelter in May. He doesn’t need someone who’s going to be harsh, just patient and strong. He is a massive puppy who does want to please humans and needs help learning manners. Jip is also neutered, fully vaccinated and has free training (for dog aggression) located in Clarenville.

There are so many judgements when it comes to holding these dogs. So many people have questioned:

What will happen to them?
When will you euthanize them?
Why can’t another rescue take them?

I don’t know what will happen to them but I know what won’t. They will not be euthanized, they will not be snuffed out because their past was unkind. These are beautiful, loveable dogs. It’s not their fault they ended up here and it’s not their fault they haven’t had all the love and opportunities other animals have. They deserve happy endings and they have to find it. That said living in a shelter FULL OF ANIMALS is NOT suitable for 2 animal aggressive dogs. They need our help, they need homes!

I have reached out to Akita rescues/breeders for help. If you know anyone, anywhere who would make a great home for these dogs please apply. Please. We are desperate for them.

It’s been 2 weeks and no info has come in on this sweet little doll. Picked up as a stray and never claimed, she’s now named Genie she’s ready to find a home! Genie is super friendly, personable and adorable. Gets along fine with other animals and loves everyone she meets. She’s everything you’d ever want in a furry little friend. 💜 Genie’s estimated around 2 years old, vaccinated, dewormed. Well.. 🥹
Scrappy & Bruno have left the building they’ve called home for almost TWO YEARS! 🙀

They came to the shelter August 15th 2022 with 15 other cats. The boys were traumatized and very untrusting of humans. It took so long to win them over, it took work and that work restarted everyday. If you missed a few days visiting them, you would have to start again so you can imagine how they were with potential adopters - no one was ever interested. 💔

Enter Amber's Safe Haven Inc. 🐈 - a rescue who specializes in scared/semi feral/rehabbing cats who desperately need that one on one attention. She has graciously taken in Scrappy & Bruno along with Louie & Lukie who all need extra love that only a home setting can bring.

Thank you Amber and your team for providing this bridge to their future. 2 years in the shelter setting is far too long, now they’ll live in special foster homes until they eventually find their forever. Here’s to your happy ever after boys!
We will miss you 🙌🥹❤️✨

Sweet young pup Duke is looking for a new home! He can’t understand how he hasn’t been scooped up so is putting on his best puppy dog eyes. 👀😻 Duke is a 2 year old lab mix weighing in at 50 pounds. He is a long and lanky fella! Duke’s been treated, vaccinated and neutered. Duke has basic training - knows sit, paw, lay down, etc but needs work with his social skills. Duke requires slow introductions to animals and people. Barks and becomes excited or nervous easily depending on the situation. He loves going for drives and walks but does pull on the leash. Duke is the type of dog who wants to be right next to you. He’s happy, hyper and would do best where he would get a lot of attention and exercise.
