Please be aware…

It's HOT out there! ☀️ 🔥 Please be cautious about having your dog accompany you to outdoor events (especially if they are on pavement!) and be sure they have lots of shade and fresh water when they do need to be outside. Do you know how to recognize signs of heat stroke in dogs?

If you observe these signs, get your dog out of the heat and to a veterinarian immediately - heat stroke can escalate fast!

with our current water theme underway, we must include Penny (1st litter). She loves the water, as much as her family does! Thanks for letting me share your beautiful girl 🩷. Penny is a great swimmer, enters and exits the pool using the steps. Penny also will swim out to “her boy” and pull him onto dry land, as he rides his boogie board!

time for some education, which in this case, means some reading…

The boxer, like many purebreds, has its health challenges. ARVC (arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy) is genetic.

But is it solely genetic?

AKA boxer cardiomyopathy, as it’s rarely seen in other breeds. Most commonly causing heart arrhythmias, which can result in collapse, fainting, death.

When Bubbles was being health tested, there was a cheek swab test available. Yay! Bubbles was ARVC negative. As were many other boxers. Yet, many were still developing ARVC and/or dying from it. Breeders didn’t always trust the science, resulting in them no longer performing the test.

Keep in mind, many breeders do NOT invest in echo or holter testing.

In 2021, ARVC2 was discovered. Dr Kathryn M Meurs states: “in boxers, we can identify which ones have the ARVC1 & ARVC2 gene mutations, but we cannot predict the penetrance. This suggests that multiple genetic and non genetic factors may contribute to whether a dog develops this disease”.

Looking for a pup? Ask questions. Lots of them! Check the results of the testing. A cheek swab for ARVC isn’t enough. Even a swab for ARVC2 isn’t adequate. Where are the holter test results?

This is Azora, our first born pup (2020). She is just over 3 1/2 years young. Still carries her Snuggle Puppy.

Snuggle puppies have a battery operated “heartbeat” and a warming pack. The Snuggle Puppies are played with, while getting scented, providing comfort at a later time when pups are separated from their littermates.
