LM Equestrian Center

LM Equestrian Center Home of the New Beginnings - Equine Assisted Learning program The New Beginnings – Equine Assisted Learning program is the heart of this facility.

EAL is a way of using horses to help visualize and further understand the development of life skills. There is no riding involved and absolutely no horse experience is necessary to participate. EAL programs are designed for groups of 2-4 to work together, along with a horse, to navigate obstacles. Each obstacle is designed to focus on different life skills such as communication, creative thinking,

trust, negotiation, and of course, teamwork! Why use Horses? Despite the large size of horses, they are prey animals with a strong flight sense. This has given horses the ability to tune into our body language and emotions and give instant feedback. The way a horse reacts will often tell us much more about ourselves than a typical human interaction ever could. These interactions are the core of all EAL programs and by reflecting on them, we can gain insight to ourselves. For more information or to set up a consult, please contact us at [email protected]

🌸🐴We had another amazing day with some strong and confident individuals.
Our day focused on self identity and being authentic to ourselves. Each participant was asked to crumple up and leave behind something mean that has ever been said about them. They were then asked to answer positive questions and carry their answers forward not only in the exercises, but also in life. 🐴🌸

Our next event is on May 13th for a fun day of Mother figure - daughter figure bonding!

✨We had an AMAZING Girl’s Day this past Friday. ✨🐴

Todays questions were answered by an amazing teenage girl that has been with us since the beginning as well. She has helped with many EAL sessions as both a volunteer and participant. She has a great attitude and will always look for ways to help out around the farm.🐴

1.What's your favourite thing about horses?
Getting to just be around them and go for trail rides in the summer.

2. Who is your favourite horse?
I like Splaash & Shadow.
Shadow because she's nice to work with and just brush and go for walks with. It's fun to teach her new things.
Splaash because he listens well to me and he is nice and friendly to people.

3.What has EAL/riding lessons taught you?
How to work with them and learn about their personalities. We get to learn how to take care of them and it is fun to ride with friends.

This week’s questions were answered by a young man that has just started EAL with us in January. He is a man of very few words, but he should be extremely proud of what he has been able to accomplish over the past few weeks. I am so excited to see his journey continue! 🐴

1. What is your favourite thing about horses?
“They’re cool”

2. Who is your favourite horse and why?
“Pepper - She listens really well to me and she stays close to me. We are starting to understand eachother”.
(We previously talked about how horses will stay by you if they feel comfortable and trusting of you.)

3. What has EAL taught you?
Learning about leadership and creative problem solving.

Happy Valentine’s Day

Dont let the couples and romance hog today. Take time today to tell the people and pets in your life, just how much you love them.

Most importantly, take time to love yourself today ❤️❤️

Please meet Emelia (Em)!
This amazing girl has been with us since day one as a riding student, volunteer, EAL assistant, and all round great helper! Her smile is infectious and she will always give you something to laugh about!

1. What’s your favourite thing about horses?
“You can connect with them and talk to them about anything. They understand how I feel when I’m sad.”

2. Who is your favourite horse and why?
“As much as I love Pepper, I have to pick Shadow. She’s the horse I connected with the most and I always come and talk with her whenever I’m here.”

3. What has EAL/riding lessons taught you?
“Patience. Lol. I have learned that I have to be patient to work with horses. I have also gained confidence in myself. Before, I thought I would never be able to ride a horse, and now, I am doing really well! I just love coming here and getting to be around all the horses. And I also LOVE Heather’s cooking.”

What do you call 6 friends, 2 horses, and a ton of laughter?

A GREAT EAL session!

Huge thank you to this amazing group of friends that came out for their VERY first equine assisted learning session. They were able to experience firsthand what EAL is all about! 🐴

Meet a Horse (Friend) Monday 🐈🐈

Please meet Frankie & Hazel!!

These sisters are the last of our farm family. They typically spend their days doing checkups on the horses and of course, securing the grounds for any rodents. If you happen to be sitting around the barn, they will be sure to find you and do their best to get scratches and cuddles. 🥰🐈

Fun fact: Hazel used to be wary of people but she has since come around to be just as friendly as her sister.

Over the past few months we have had, and continue to have the opportunity to work with some great clients. From kids with learning set backs to adults healing from trauma, and everyone in between. I have been asking the same questions to each of them and will be sharing their answers anonymously one person at a time.

I figured I would go first to start things off!

Who is your favourite horse and why?
-Joey. I used to compete and work with a horse named Patrick almost a decade ago (He has since passed). He was also a bay thoroughbred with no fancy markings, but legs for days. There was always a ‘goofball’ side to him and it was paired with a heart that never stopped. With Joey, I saw the same traits and was instantly drawn to him. I guess you could say I have a type lol.

What is your favourite thing about horses?
-They don’t judge you based on your past or where you come from, but they will judge you for how you treat them in the moment. They have a way of grounding you while lifitng you up at the same time. No matter what, at the end of the day they will always be there for you (waiting to be fed).

What has EAL/riding lessons taught you?
-Confidence starts from within yourself - from there, you are unstoppable. Seeing my clients grow and find their voice is something I will never take for granted.

Meet a Horse (Friend) Monday ❤️🐶

Please meet Brownie!!

For those who have been to our farm, you know Brownie is the first to welcome you to our property! She will instantly become your best friend at the price of a belly rub. This girl isn’t used in our programs, but she is a warm addition to our team and will always be there if you need extra cuddles or a good laugh.

Fun fact: she “prays” with us at every meal and even has her own chair at the table.

Welcome back to Meet a Horse Monday ❤️🐴

Please meet Our last but definitely NOT least…DAISEY🌼

Little Miss Daisey is a Shetland Pony approximately in her late teens-early twenties.

This girl is one of the very first members of our herd. She is a veteran when it comes to EAL (Equine Assisted Learning). Don’t let her size fool you! She can be full of s***k when needed and will always race around with the others. Daisey is used for those who want to develop their confidence working with horses. He size makes her a perfect companion to smaller children as well.

Fun Fact: she has the thickest mane of all the horses and we try to keep it braided in the summer to help keep her cool 😎.
(If anyone loves braiding ponies, please drop by!)

Meet a Horse Monday ❤️🐴

Please meet Pepper

This beautiful girl is the newest member of our herd. She is 12yrs old and starting to settle in nicely here. Currently she is being used for beginner riding lessons and is really gaining her experience and confidence. We can’t wait to get her out on the trails as she will be a great horse to go exploring with!

Fun Fact: she is Heather Keith Burns’s dream horse colour. ❤️

Meet a Horse Monday ❤️🐴🏇🏻

Please meet Joey

This 18yr old boy is used in our riding program and some EAL demonstrations. He’s not the biggest fan of hugs and cuddles -similar to his owner- but he does love having a job and being put to work. He is a retired race horse and we will often catch him racing through the fields as if to say, “my best days aren’t behind me yet.” There is a noticeable spark of joy in him when he is taken for trail rides and given the opportunity to run his heart out. 🐎🐎

Fun fact: candy canes are his favourite treat and he can hear their wrapper from a mile away.

Meet a Horse Monday 🐴❤️

Please meet Caramel!!

This lovely girl is now living out her peaceful retirement in our fields. We use Caramel in majority of our EAL sessions since she is so loving and gentle to everyone. Caramel will often be the first one to investigate something new in the barn or field. She is extremely curious by nature and has given us plenty to laugh about with her expressions.

Fun Fact: she used to be an excellent show jumper
