Things are growing well here and the garden is happy after lastnight and today’s rainfall. The turkeys, meat chickens and pigs are all enjoying life. Here are some photos I took today.

These are layer chicks and are hatching as we speak. I have Rhode Island Red and Barred rock varieties in this batch and will be expecting more as two of my hens are laying on their own clutches of eggs!! Exciting times here as new animals are arriving daily.

Piglets can’t figure out their new feeder. However, they are very intelligent and I suspect by morning they will have figured it out.

Chick #1 has peeped through. Tomorrow and Sunday the 42 Rhode Island Red chicks will hatch. Stay tuned!!

1st day outside for these two piglets. I’ll start training them on their electric fence area now, so that they can move out onto pasture as soon as possible.

Did you know..... training piglets on electric fence is to provide a psychological barrier not a physical one. They learn to respect the yellow electric wire very quickly because they are very intelligent animals. By NO means is an electric fence a physical barrier however, once trained a pig can be contained within any sized area with a single strand of electric wire. For my paddocks I use either two or three wires for my own psychological welfare. Better to be safe than have pigs getting out.
