⚠️ Blastomycosis in Our Region: A Timely Reminder for Pet Owners ​🦠

Did You Know? Blastomycosis has long been a concern in our area, especially around Manitoulin Island. This fungal infection can be dangerous, particularly for our furry friends. Unfortunately, recent dog deaths have brought this issue back into the spotlight.

🐾Why is this important?
Blastomycosis thrives in moist soil and decomposing organic matter, making our region a prime environment for the fungus. Dogs that love to dig or explore wooded areas are especially at risk.

🐾What should you do?
Stay Informed: Be aware of the signs of Blastomycosis, such as coughing, weight loss, or eye problems.

⚠️ Act Quickly: If you notice any of these symptoms in your pet, contact us immediately. Early detection is key to successful treatment.

Over the last two years, I have been unable to take in Load of dogs from the north because our local community is so overpopulated with dogs. I have been servicing the Loads of dogs on the bark bus as they were transferred to Southern and eastern Ontario. This week I received a call about a community up north in dire need of assistance. Pictures of puppies, living in the snowbank were sent to me and my heart broke as I lay in my warm bed? I can't imagine those babies and many others living outside in the frigid temperatures up north. I agreed to help the Northern Rescue as they are assisting the community this weekend. As of this evening, there will be at least 40 puppies arriving, A lovely, 10-year-old dog And several other young adults. The Bark Bus travelling in this storm, so that dozens of animals don't starve and freeze to death up north. We wish Craig and his partner safe travels this weekend and we'll see them Sunday morning with a load of very lucky pups, and dogs. Unfortunately, we cannot find another destination for these animals at this time, so Pet save will bring them in under our care, and hopefully find other groups throughout the province to take some of them. In the meantime, we are looking for volunteers for the following:

Help unloading the puppies and dogs
Volunteers to bathe the puppies.
Foster homes for puppies and dogs.
Drivers in case we need to drive some to local boarding facilities.

We will be posting updates as we get more information from our fellow rescue Northern Critters in Need. They will be in the Community this weekend.

Please consider opening your home to a dog in need.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good
night.

We are now officially on Christmas Vacation and will be back January 2nd 2024.

Thank you to to all our clients, past, present and future for your support throughout the years. We love seeing your puppers and spoiling them. You are greatly appreciated. A big Thank You to my wonderful staff. It is my pleasure to work with and watch them grow. They keep me young😉.
