Winners, all around!
Yesterday marked the last day of our fundraiser. We are so thankful to everyone who donated and those who participated in our Raffle Prize Draw. Without further ado, we'd like to congratulate Dannielle S who won the Shark UltraLight PetPro Corded Stick Vacuum and to Jenny W who won the 200$ Canadian Tire gift card! πŸ₯³πŸŽ‰ Ultimately, every person who donated is a winner, because you have all helped pet owners in need of financial assistance afford something of deep value: veterinary care for their companion animals. We appreciate you all and look forward to October of next year, where we hope to once again participate in the Farley Month fundraiser. Have a safe and happy weekend, everybody!

Fun update for our fundraiser! We have a few spider plants ready for loving homes available to those who are interested in donating 10$ towards the Farley Foundation. These plants are non-toxic and relatively low-maintenance! There are a limited number of these plant friends in clinic, so if you are interested in donating, call or come into the clinic soon! 705-560-7226 to donate over the phone (credit card payment only for telephone donations). Cash, debit or credit donations can be made in person.

Happy October everyone! Stay safe. πŸ‚πŸŒ±πŸ€—

Mimzy, Stella and Johnny are here to remind everyone to stay safe this October. Halloween is quickly approaching, and there are some easy ways to prevent a holiday emergency vet visit! Make sure that Halloween snacks and treats are securely sealed in a pet-proof container. Be mindful of which decorations may entice your furry friends to take a taste, despite not being edible! Lastly, Trick Or Treaters are great fun for us, but can sometimes be scary or stressful for your pets, plan ahead and find them a calm quiet area to hang out in, or make sure they aren't able to slip out the door while you're handing out treats! πŸŽƒπŸ‚πŸ‘»

October is RVT Month!
We would like to take a moment to show some love and appreciation to all our amazing RVTs, vet techs and vet assistants for all their hard work, compassion, dedication and patience. Our RVTs, techs, and assistants play a very important role within the clinic. Their every day duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: anesthesia, radiology, phlebotomy, laboratory testing, emergency and critical care, client education and so much more. They are the warm hug that holds them after surgery, they are the calming voice in times of stress, they are the fun friend feeding them treats during their puppy visits. We are so grateful for each and every one of them. Please take a moment to wish them all a happy RVT Month and thank them for their support and skills!

We'll see you all the next time you are in clinic. πŸ€—

POV: when your surgery recovery onesie can also be used as your Halloween costume! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜ We thought our little friend looked absolutely adorable in his dinosaur suit and thought he deserved to be shown off to the world. He looks very proud of himself and has been making an excellent recovery! A big thank you to his parents who allowed us to share this with you all. πŸ€—

Has anybunny heard of RHDV? If not, you're definitely not alone. RHDV-2 is the acronym for "rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus-2". A silly sounding name for such a serious disease. The first Canadian report of the virus was in British Columbia in 2018. There were sporadic cases reported throughout Canada in the years following, with no reported cases in Ontario until June of 2022. Due to the extremely contagious nature of this virus, RHDV2 is classified as an Immediately Notifiable Hazard to the CFIA as well as to the Office of the Chief Veterinarian for Ontario. RHDV is highly fatal, cases in Canada reported a nearly 100% mortality rate. Indoor rabbits are equally at risk, as this virus is spread through both direct and indirect contact, and it is highly resistant to breakdown in the environment. Unfortunately, many rabbits do not show any symptoms until the time of their passing, however, bleeding of the orifices (mouth, nose, a**s... etc.) is the primary sign that a rabbit has become infected with RHDV. Currently, the only treatment available for rabbits with sick with RHDV is supportive care, meaning hospitalization under critical care and isolation from all other rabbits.

This disease is preventable, Lasalle Animal Clinic carries RHDV2 vaccines and they are currently in stock. If you have further questions, or if you would like to book an appointment with one of our veterinarians to have your rabbit vaccinated, please contact the clinic during business hours.

Tick Talk!
This little unwanted hitchhiker was brought in by a pet owner yesterday afternoon. They thought we'd appreciate the opportunity to identify and dispose of this little parasite, and they were right! This engorged tick is a "black-legged deer tick", Ixodes scapularis. These little buggers are common in this area and are often carriers of Lyme disease. Females are usually more "aggressive" and are more likely to bite. It is safe to assume this little gal was pretty thirsty! Ticks are becoming more and more of an issue with the mild spring and fall weather we've been having. Recent studies have shown that ticks can be active in temperatures as low as -4°C! We recommend keeping your pets up to date on their flea and tick prevention, and would like to remind and/or inform you all that we carry the 4Dx Snap tests in clinic to check your pet for Ehrlichiosis, Anaplasmosis, Lyme disease and heart worm. Have a safe and happy weekend, and remember to check your pets for ticks! 🐾

Mabel would like to remind our valued clients that all pets must be in a carrier or on a leash when inside and outside of the clinic. This is for everyone's safety, accidents can happen but many are preventable with the help of leashes and carriers! Thank you all for your understanding and cooperation. πŸ€— We'll see you next time!

Good afternoon everyone!
Recently our clinic has implemented the use of a new online history questionnaire form. It has been brought to our attention that these links can sometimes appear as untrustworthy or suspected as spam. We wanted to give everyone a heads up that if you have booked a recent appointment with us, you can expect a legitimate link to be sent to you (like the one displayed in this post) asking you to fill the form prior to your pet's appointment. These online history questionnaires have allowed us to be more efficient and productive during our appointments as well as help keep your pet's medical records as up to date as possible. You do not need to fill it out, as always, your privacy concerns matter to us and we do not enforce anyone to submit the Jotform Online History Questionnaires if they do not feel comfortable to do so. Rest assured, your information is kept confidential and is being sent to a secure source within the clinic. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to comment below, or contact us by phone or email so that we can assist you in any way possible. Thank you all for your help and support, we are so very grateful for our amazing clients! 😻🐾

We would like to formally introduce the newest doctor to join the Lasalle Animal Clinic team:
Welcome, Dr. Christina Mozzon!
Prior to completing her studies and graduating as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Dr. Mozzon worked as a kennel assistant and vet assistant here with the team during the past few summers. Her experience in our clinic helped her enhance her veterinary knowledge and improve her clinical skills. We are very lucky to have her work with us! Please take the time to wish her a warm welcome, she'll be seeing you all in clinic. πŸ€—

LAC Annual Tie-Dye Party, 2024 Edition! A couple weeks ago we gathered underneath the storm clouds in the barn for our yearly staff tie-dye get together. Never a dull moment with this crew! I think the only sound louder than the thunder that afternoon was our laughter. 😁 Thankfully we are all quite used to our hands and fingers being stained pink and purple (Diff-Quik... if you know, you knowπŸ˜‰). A big shout out to the whole LAC Team, as many weren't able to make it this year. Thankfully this has been an annual tradition for a while, so there's always next year! Have a safe and happy weekend, everybody. 🐾😻
