Lexi would like to wish everyone a good snowy weekend!

We do not have emergency coverage tonight. If you have a pet emergency please call Coastal Care Veterinary Clinic (902) 703-2323 or Maritime Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center (902) 932-0838.

We will be open our regular Saturday hours tomorrow form 9-3, weather dependent. After 3 we will be sending emergencies to Coastal Care or Maritime Veterinary until Monday morning at 7:30.

It's Fri-YAY! The Mc-Mac dog gang wants to wish you a weekend full of fun and fur and to give you a reminder that our on-call services for emergencies this weekend has changed slightly.

We have coverage overnight tonight for client emergencies until tomorrow, Saturday December 14th at 3pm.

We resume client emergencies Saturday December 14th at 8pm until Monday morning when we open for regular hours once again.

Eevee popped by today to let everybody know that we have some changes to our normal schedule coming up soon ..

Tomorrow (Friday November 8th) we do not have coverage for overnight emergencies beginning at 5pm, until 9 am Saturday.

Saturday November 9th we will have a vet on call for emergencies until 3pm and are open for our normal Saturday hours for your animal needs.

From 3pm Saturday until Tuesday November 12th at 8 am we do not have coverage for emergencies.

We are closed Monday November 11th for Remembrance Day.

This means if your animal emergencies fall outside the window of our Saturday hours, you will need to travel to Coastal Care Veterinary Emergency.

We apologize for this and appreciate your understanding.

Happy last day of RVT month, everybody! Last on our RVT list is our superhero Danielle! (and ONLY last because she didn't hand over her write up pointers in a timely manner) 😉

This lovely human graduated from school in 2020 but knew from a VERY young age that her love for animals would carry her into a career and we are SO happy it brought her to us!

When she is not greeting our next appointment with a smiling face, she can be found doing a number of other things behind the scenes. Filling prescriptions, monitoring animals under general anesthesia, providing comfort to animals staying in house for care and running bloodwork are just a few other tasks a RVT takes on while here.

Despite Danielle loving all of our wild and beautiful pets, she has a true soft spot for all things exotic, especially reptiles. (so anytime you are here with your skink, snake, gecko, bearded dragon) know your beloved little friend is being cared for by one of the best!

When she is not here she can be found horse-back riding, hiking, reading and playing D&D with friends.

Thank you for all that you do, Danielle. Your care is exceptional and we are so lucky to have you on our team at GAH!

Tiffany has been a RVT since 2015 (graduated from Northern College in Ontario) and in the same year she moved here to NS, joining our team as a new technician until August 2020. At that time she said 'see yah later' to us, gaining another few years of experience at Wolfville Animal Hospital, before coming back here in May ☺️

Tiffany has an unwavering dedication to her profession. She rocks every aspect of our clinic life here at GAH and we are so grateful for her knowledge and passion. She truly aims to make every pets visit happy and as stress free as possible, and thrives with nursing care, blood draws and catheter placements, anesthesia and making ill patients feel better while they are here with us 🥰

You can truly see Tiffany in her element as an animal lover by looking at her photos! That smile says it all. She lives and breathes all things animals, which is why we know without a doubt your beloved pets are going to be loved and cared for like her own. 🥹

Outside of work Tiffany loves to read, and loves being outdoors.
She does group walks with her bestie and their 8 dogs on quiet trails, beaches and in the woods, anywhere they can run and play!

When asked what we love most about her, the conclusion was pretty much everything. From the light and fun mood she brings to each shift, her caring nature, the humor she has any minute of the day, the way she helps without question and her of course, her knowledge!

We love you Tiffany, and we are so grateful you choose to be here with us each day. Thanks for everything you do!

RVT superhero of this sunshiny Monday is Stephanie T!
Steph graduated RVT school in 2018 and has been with us ever since🥰She has wanted to be a veterinary technician ever since the wee age of 6, so we know without a doubt this is where she wants to be and how much she loves her career choice!

Her knowledge, experience and mega watt smile bring a comfort to owners, knowing their precious fur babies are in the best hands possible when coming in for their appointment.

Through the week Steph can be found in the surgery suite assisting the veterinarian with pre-scheduled or emergency surgeries, in the pharmacy filling the many daily prescriptions that are called in by clients, in appointment rooms providing the vet with intake information for your appointment, or helping in our wildly busy reception area. She knows that it takes a village to make a clinic run smooth and she is always ready and willing to lend a hand for whatever task needs help.

When not at work she shares her home with the love of her life (and trouble child) Eevee (pictured below), along with her squeaky pigs Fritter and Timbit.

Thank you for being YOU, Steph T. We appreciate you and are not sure what we would do without you.

Another RVT to bring into the spotlight at Greenwood Animal Hospital ☺️
Meet Jaclyn. She has had a passion for animals from a very young age, beginning with 4-H and pony club. Her very first job was a stable hand and has even worked as a wrangler in Alberta!

Jaclyn leads with her heart which is why we love her. 🩵 She knows animals make the best of friends which is evident here at GAH, because every animal absolutely loves her (and so do we!)

She has been a RVT for over 10 years and with us for over 3. The majority of her career she thrived in emergency medicine and still her favorite part of the job is (you guessed it) emergency surgeries, working under pressure and inpatient care.
No matter the situation, you can count on Jaclyn to keep a level head and perform her job seamlessly.

Jaclyn is a cheerleader and advocate for every single animal that comes our way. No matter the situation, she will be in their corner making sure they get what they need. Being a voice for all animals is where she excels and she cannot imagine doing anything else 🥰

Outside of work she is busy doing all outdoor activities! Her hobbies are running with her two besties (Aria and Loki), dog sledding, horseback riding, hiking, kayaking, camping and traveling the world with her husband Adam.

Jaclyn, your extra large heart and skill set are what make you an exceptional RVT and we are so grateful to have you each day at Greenwood Animal Hospital. You truly are outstanding !!

Sweet little Isabella came to see us today for her puppy vaccines🥰 She quickly stole the show in the office and we had a hard time containing our excitement over her.
Isabella was a true champ for her needles, with lots of snuggles and treats she barely knew what was happening.

Puppies require several rounds of vaccinations beginning at 8 weeks of age. During the time a puppy is nursing, they will receive maternal antibodies. These maternal antibodies then circulate and are meant to protect the puppy from disease until they are old enough to receive vaccines from their veterinarian 😊

Maui wants you to know that Greenwood Animal Hospital will be closed Monday October 14th 🦃 for Thanksgiving but we are on call for any client emergencies that may arise, all weekend.

From the tips of her ears and all the way down to her toes, this adorable turkey wishes you nothing but the safest and tastiest holiday weekend. And as a reminder to all, please keep bones/carcasses away from your pets 🙂

Today we are introducing Kailan, she is another one of our superhero RVT's here at Greenwood Animal Hospital.

Kailan came to GAH right after graduating from tech school. Prior to going to Dal Agricultural College in Truro, she worked as a vet assistant, and it was those co-workers around her who encouraged her to follow her animal passions with continued education, hence her now status!

Her passion and dedication to each and every animal that comes through our doors is what makes her such an invaluable member of our team. Over the last 8 years here at Greenwood Animal Hospital Kailan has been able to perfect her trade but has found her niche is in animal behavior and educating owners how to work with animals towards a happy household.

Outside of work she has an abundance of interests such as writing, video gaming, random adventures and is musically inclined with a 5 year post secondary education as a classically trained singer (we promise to let you know if she ever decides to set up a performance here to show us her singing talents!)

She has 2 very beautiful fur babies at home, Magnus and Mister and they are both loved deeply 😻

She is boisterous, empathetic, insightful and extremely passionate about her work here at GAH and we are so happy she is a part of our team. Thanks for all that you do, Kailan!

Today we are starting off our RVT introductions with none other than our Lead Tech at Greenwood Animal Hospital, Stephanie.

Stephanie has been a technician for nearly 20 years and has been at GAH the past 9 years (how lucky are we?!)

Originally hailing from CB, she has spent time perfecting her skills at small practices in Ottawa, Halifax and Fredericton which has given her a plethora of knowledge in emergencies, orthopedics and those adorable little pocket pets. She loves all aspects of being a RVT but anesthesia and pain management are where she flourishes.

She lives with her husband Matt, their 2 legged kids Jack and Beth along with their four legged kids Higbee, Nellie and Pretzel Sonic the cat.

When she is not working or doing continuing education Steph loves spending time with her family and friends, hiking, camping and reading.

When we ask our staff what they love most about this outstanding technician, they say the following..

“she is always willing to help, she is very compassionate and kind, she is an overall joy, quick to mentor anyone who needs it, she always has the answers or finds one for you, is easy to get along with, her bubbly personality lifts us all up, she is smart and funny, extremely knowledgeable in her field and she has the best laugh”.

Stephanie H, we are not sure what we would do without you. Your beautiful personality, big smile, contagious laugh and your knowledge in all things animal medicine are appreciated more than you will ever truly know. Thank you for all that you do each and every day here at GAH. We are grateful for YOU!

It's RVT MONTH all across our beautiful country, and what better way to celebrate than to give you a detailed look into the life of an RVT.

Lets begin with a look into what an RVT is and what job roles they can have day to day in a veterinary clinic 😁

RVT stands for Registered Veterinary Technician. In other words, these beautiful human beings are the heartbeat of any clinic.

From small details such as nail trimming, to monitoring anesthesia, these superheroes do it ALL.

Below is a detailed list of all the tasks we ask of our RVT's .. (they wear many hats!)

- appointment intake (the faces that greet you for each and every visit you have in our office with your furry little friend)
- medication review
- blood draws
- lab work (blood related, urinalysis, f***l tests, cytology)
- surgical prep
- monitoring anesthesia during elective and emergent surgical procedures
- monitoring post surgical recovery of patients
- radiology
- nail trims
- in hospital patient monitoring and medication administration
- prescription refills

not only are they responsible for the many jobs above, but they are also a deep comfort to both owner and pet when having to say goodbye to our beloved fur family ❤️‍🩹

Each clinic has a great blend of RVT's that make their office truly unique. So lets get to know ours a little bit better, shall we?
