Little Sarah the Maltese lives in Bergen, New York, which is a 3-hour drive from Guelph. She is 10-years-old and super sweet, but is missing her family after spending the last 30 days at the Humane Society. Today she was placed with one of our host families until she can find a ride back home. Her 91-year-old “Aunt” is missing her terribly but is unable to pick her up. She has offered to pay for gas costs if someone is willing to drive Sarah home. Please send us a message if you (or someone you know) is able to help! 🐾

Dog Cuddlers WANTED! Must live in Guelph or Rockwood area.
- Love dogs but can’t commit to your own full time?
- Like being part of a dog-loving community?
- Feel having a dog would make you feel less lonely?
- Like dog walking to get fit and healthy?
- Love to have dogs during your holidays?
- Know that a visiting dog would be great for the family?

This year Hounds On Holiday celebrates 12 years of service and is still growing strong!

Who are our dog sitters?
It goes without saying that all of our sitters, without exception, are absolutely dotty about dogs. Some of them are actively retired people who have had dogs all their lives, but now prefer the freedom and flexibility of dog sitting for other people’s pets while some work from home and enjoy the companionship! Others are younger, with a family at home who love to have visiting dogs to stay, rather than a full-time pet of their own. And some of our sitters are families who have a dog of their own who loves canine company! All of our hosts are based at home when looking after Hounds On Holiday guests and never leave your dog on their own for long periods.

Most importantly, our dog hosts need to be true dog lovers! We are looking for people who are genuinely passionate about working with dogs and have experience looking after them.

Our sitters are dedicated!
At Hounds On Holiday we do all the hard work, so our dog sitters don’t have to. We think it’s important that our dog sitters concentrate on taking care of your dog. That means they shouldn’t be exposed to, or distracted by, a constant flow of potential customers and dogs coming and going. We take care of all the enquiries, bookings and transport, so our sitters can focus their full attention on your dog. We take arrival photos of your dog and pass along the holiday photos and updates to our customers. This means that our hosts are also protected from having to deal with money, insurance and paperwork, so that the enjoyment of looking after visiting dogs remains their number one priority.

We believe in only recruiting the best dog sitting families who are committed to providing first-class care for our customers’ dogs. We take this recruitment very seriously and always meet our dog sitters and interview them in depth. We get to know them extremely well, have worked with many of our pet sitters for a great number of years and consider them part of the Hounds On Holiday family.

Our fantastic dog sitters are the heart of our business and we simply couldn’t do it without them! Please inquire only via private Facebook message, or email [Email hidden], or call: 519-835-5588.

A Roxy update from her loving host family!
Roxy is so doing well. We have come to realize she is a puppy at heart trapped in a old girl's body! "Tank", as we now call her seems to be pretty stuborn and very determined. She loves to lounge bath Jenny and insists on playing. She doesn't take no for an answer with our cat Kylie no matter how many hints she gives Roxy... lol. Roxy loves to go out with us but not too far as she will then plunk her bum down and refuse to move. Yesterday after we stopped to talk to the Mail Carrier she wouldnt move as she wanted to get into the truck. I had Jenny with me and there was no budging Rox. The Mail Lady had to let Roxy get in one side and sniff around and then let her out... THEN she was happy to move on! Last night we ordered pizza!!! WOW, Ive never seen Roxy move so fast and If I wasn't mistaken she was doing a dance and trying to jump up. Not sure who snores more, Roxy, Jenny or my husband! When she wakes up in the morning she runs around bulldozing everything and dive bombing me for tummy rubs, then she gets sleepy Jenny to play with her. The tongue over the teeth kills us!! Cute! She matches Jenny as they are both the brindle colour and have the same tail/bum. When I take her out by herself, people say Hi Jenny! then double take and say oh.....thats not Jenny!!! At night she insists on joining us upstairs for bed! The last time she visited us she wouldn't come up and when we carried her she left quickly. This time she MUST climb the stairs on her own at her own pace. She is sooooooo determined and persistent! A true Bully Girl! I know she will be glad to see you tomorrow!! We do love her though...;-)

Sammy is a big hit on holiday! An update from his wonderful host family:

Sam is doing really well. He appears to have settled in happily, is eating and well, and slept through last night no problem. He got up and had breakfast at 8:30am. Despite the miserable weather, he happily heads out for his walks. We don't go too far, trying not to trigger his bad leg......just to the end of the block and back. It seems to be the ideal distance. We have just finished watching TV with Sam sleeping between George and I on the sofa. Just been for his evening stroll and he has had his special muffin, and we were then playing with his elephant toy. This evening he had a nap on our bed while George was reading. He has just run in the study with his toy and I think he wants to play again. What a delightful dog!

Beauregard On Holiday Again!

06/02/2012

There's nothing like a map nap; by the door or by the fire, after a long afternoon walk. Beau sprang up the steps of his host family home and instantly remembered where to go around the back door on arrival. He gave a big high five and then a high ten while sitting on his tail, showing off the new tricks he has been learning to his host friends. They are so happy to have him back for a second visit! Happy holiday Beau!

A note from the host!
Dear Leo & Lily's Parents - Leo & Lily arrived and instantly reunited with me, Johnnie and Padjo, and met my daughter and her little dog Bballie. We hung out at home for a bit indoors, as the weather was miserable today. After lunch the six of us headed out to Hanlon Creek Trail - the weather was drizzly and a bit chilly but we did not shorten the walk. Doggies got lots of exercise for over an hour walking, running and swimming. We took photos and passed on to Hounds On Holiday of our gang on the trail and in the pond. Unfortunately the photos taken on the boardwalk in Preservation Park did not turn out - blurry. Well perhaps another day we'll get some pics over there. By end of our outing Leo & Lily were walking not running in a calm & cheerful mood. When we arrived home Leo began whimpering but then he was very happy when I invited him to lie at the end of the couch with me while I watched a TV program - he lay down contentedly and even dozed off until suppertime. There was no squabbling over the food- everyone ate out of their own dish politely. More excitement when my daughter's dad arrived to pick her and Bballie up for the weekend. It will now be the 5 of us until Sunday evening. It's a quiet evening, all the pets are sleeping- Johnnie on his bed, Leo on a couch, Padjo the cat and Lily on the floor by my feet. All is well - enjoy your weekend :)

Stuie puts his mark of approval on the backyard before venturing into the house for a quick tour and a cold drink from all of the excitement. After getting acquainted, he heads out on his first walk of the neighbourhood trails behind his host family home. Maybe a cuddle and a snack later followed by a well-earned nap on the couch or the sun-filled deck. Stuie would like to thank his pet parents for choosing this 5 star resort! Happy Holidays Stuie!
