Unleash the power of your dog's nose with an Intro to Scent Detection class. We've got a spot left in our class starting this Friday July 12 8:15 to 9:15pm. Fun for all breeds and ages of dogs.
Does your dog hate putting on their harness? Mine too. While harnesses are the safest walking tool for your dog, many dogs hate having them slide over their head. Adventure Collars was kind enough to make Esme a beautiful custom harness with a buckle at the neck - no more squished ears!
Small changes can make a big difference to your dog.
Training your dog to leave things when dropped - even without a verbal or physical cue - can be important for their safety. While a piece of cheese may not be harmful, a dropped pill could be deadly.
How do we get to this stage? Well, lots of reinforcement of the behaviour we want the dog to do, and by gradually making the "question" more difficult. Dogs should learn this skill individually before trying it with multiple dogs.
Off leash figure 8 around distractions? No problem! Take your dog's obedience to the next level with our Grade 2 class.
We still have a few spots in our Wednesday, February 21st class, 7:15 - 8:15pm. Email us at [email protected] to register.
Happy Valentine's Day from the Tuesday Dogs! We ❤️ impulse control.
Some of what our Tuesday Crew worked on today.
Reminder to let your dog do dog stuff.
Let them sniff. Let them get soggy and dirty. Let them explore. Let them hunt critters in wood piles. Let them roll in the snow.
Our dogs live very structured lives. We control pretty much everything they do - when they eat, when they play, when they sleep. So make sure you give your dog time to be a dog.
Your dog will be happier - and better behaved - when you do.

Practicing for those Canadian walks with #timhortons. I had a lot of trust in these dogs - my tea was still half full!

A few small moments from an absolutely amazing year. We can't thank you all enough for allowing us spend time with you and your wonderful dogs in 2023.
Here's to a 2024 full of puppies, playtime, and maybe a little obedience too. ;)
Happy New Year!
Loose leash walking past distractions with the Tueaday Day School Crew. 🥰
Classes are cancelled today, Nov 8th due to weather / road conditions. If you were scheduled to start class this evening please check your email and reply.
The afternoon siesta... It may not look like much, but the ability to self regulate and relax around other dogs is a tough skill.
Is your pup easily distracted on walks? Sometimes giving them something to carry can help keep them focused and calmer - especially for our gun dog breeds! As a bonus, they look super cute too.
Working on some impulse control with the puppy (and Freya wanted to join in too) instead of going out in the smoke.
We started this by placing a treat on the ground, covering it with our hand, and then rewarding the dog when she chose to leave the treat alone. Then we built up to dropping treats in front of her.
Progession looked like:
1. Treat placed on ground and covered with hand
2. Treat places on the ground with no hand
3. Multiple treats placed on the ground
4. A single treat dropped from just a few inches
5. Multiple treats dropped from just a few inches
6. A single, then multiple treats dropped from gradually higher heights
Small steps = big progress.

Some of our Kinderpuppy Super Stars working off leash.
Does your puppy or dog immediately bolt as soon as you take the leash off? Here's how to fix it:
1. With a BIG handful of tasty treats ready to go, unclip your dog's leash.
2. Feed them a few treats very quickly, then ask for an easy behaviour your dog knows well, such as sit or down. It's important your rate of reinforcement is high initially.
3. Stop feeding and tell your dog to go play.
As your dog gets better at sticking with you, you can increase the number of behaviours asked for and decrease the number of treats (but remember to ALWAYS pay good behaviour).
Saturday small dog play class! A great way to safely continue socialization with other dogs. Play classes are exclusive to dogs that have completed Montessaurus puppy classes.
As a dog trainer, I know the importance of teaching crucial obedience cues like the one in this video... 😂
If your dog has a hand target cue, it's pretty easy to swap your flat hand for a single finger and turn it into a "mustache" cue. Warm up a couple hand targets, then try swapping out for the new hand signal. Be sure to only reward when the dog targets your finger just under their nose.
Happy training!
