How to play Auto Check-In 👇
This is a great game to help your dog focus on you through different environments. This is a foundational skill that makes it easier for your pup to take instruction and ignore distractions!
STEP 1: Have your dog on leash in a low-distraction area.
STEP 2: Look for any time your dog pays attention to you by looking at you, even a glance.
STEP 3: Use your reward marker any time you see this and treat.
STEP 4: Once your dog gets good at this, begin using your reward marker only when your dog can focus on you for 2 seconds or longer.
STEP 5: Repeat until your dog is able to watch you long enough to follow one simple cue you tell them to, such as “sit”. Release them from the sit by saying “break”, to let them know it’s okay to stop watching you.
Don’t forget to save this post to find the instructions next time you go for a walk! 🐕

Let’s learn the “Leave it” game!
This is an important skill to keep your dog safe in all environments. When out in the world, dogs can run into potentially dangerous situations where the only solution is to refocus their attention away from something. This game is a great way to establish this skill so you have it ready when you need it most.

Want to strengthen the bond between you and your dog, while boosting their confidence?
Scent work is a phenomenal way to exercise your dog’s brain, boost their confidence with simple games that are naturally rewarding, and fine tune your understanding of their body language, fostering a deeper connection between you both.
ℹ️In this class, you will learn about the basic concepts of scent work, how to handle odor so we can make and place hides, and build a solid foundation for continuing to learn in and later compete in the sport.
⚪️GOALS of this class:
▪️Use backchaining to build value/history with odor.
▪️Introduce and build drive for hunting, and use timing and placement to reward for staying on source.
▪️Many fun games are used to progress the teams at their own pace.
▪️Other topics include generalization, aging scent, equipment/gear, handling, proactive hide tampering/destruction prevention, creative container placement patterns, handler position, and handler analysis - are we accidentally telling our dogs where the source is?

Welcome to the world of Scent Detection!
Scent work is a wonderful way to safely and effectively allow our dogs to engage in one of their most powerful drives, all while being apart of the process. Not only that, but the sport is all inclusive, meaning almost anyone and their dog can learn to do it! Scent training is also a wonderful way to fulfill your dog’s physical and mental needs, and teach them how to search on cue.
On Saturday October 14th from 2-4pm Smith Canine Academy and JV Training are offering a Scent Workshop! Come try the world of scent work with your dog and see why it is one of the most popular canine activities.
We will have 2 areas set up at our Center, one for the dogs actively going through the scent work course and another where pups are practicing their skills and waiting for their turn. Weather pending we may even be able to add in a small section outside.
There is no age or skill limit, however dogs must be fully vaccinated and must not show any aggression towards other dogs. This workshop also includes a Webinar you can watch before joining us so you and your canine friend are prepared with some extra information on scent detection training.
▪️Date: October 14th from 2-4pm.
▪️Cost: $60 per dog/handler team
▪️Spots Available: 6
ℹ️ If you have done our clinic before, we will be actively working with you and your dog to start introducing signalling, scent differentiation and distractions.
▪️Registration: For more information or to register for the Clinic, please send us a message through instagram, facebook or our time to pet app, or fill out the Class Registration Form on JV training’s website:
