Our team reviewed all the 4Dx bloodwork results since January 1, 2024 and could not believe that 8 dogs tested positive for Lyme Disease! 🦠🕷️

To prevent your pup from contracting parvo, it is essential to get them vaccinated. A puppy’s first set of vaccinations happen at 6 weeks old with another two at 9 and 12 weeks. When your dog is brought into our clinic, they will be assessed by us and we will advise you on all follow-up dates. Research concludes that cats cannot have autism; however, there are many behavioral similarities between special-needs cats and humans with autism. Since autism is focused on human behavior, cats cannot be diagnosed, but they sometimes exhibit autism spectrum traits. Examples include becoming obsessed with hunting or chasing certain things, enjoying their alone time, being easily overstimulated, easily spooked by noises or bright lights, and even being overwhelmed by too much attention. If you recently added a female puppy to your family, it's important to understand their heat cycles. Proestrus is the start of the heat period where your dog’s body is preparing to mate and averages about nine days. The estrus phase is the mating phase and usually lasts around 9 days, but can be as short as 3 or as long as 21 days. The diestrus phase occurs directly after the “in heat” stage and lasts for about 2 months. Anestrus is the uterine repair phase, in which no sexual or hormonal behavior is present, and can last for anywhere from 90 to 150 days before the next proestrus stage begins.

Typically, puppies require about 6 to 10 hours of sleep daily. Every puppy is different, with some needing up to 20 hours a day to maintain their high levels of energy. Any behavior or sleep position can stem from a variety of causes. Some may be more subtle reasons than others, but there are none to worry about regarding your pet’s health! In general, when a dog sleeps on its back, it is a good thing. It usually means they are cooling off, feel safe, are showing submission, or are seeking attention. Some will even do it purely out of comfort! Cats are nimble, flexible, and quick due to the 230 bones in their body! Despite having an additional 24 bones to that of humans, who only have 206, the skeleton of a cat is very similar to ours. Cats have 13 ribs while humans have 12, and both have clavicles, but unlike humans, they are unattached to other bones. *Why You Should Wipe Before Leaving The House* This cat came into the clinic earlier this summer. She had spent a few days outside and when she came home her owners noticed that she had a sore on her bum. After cleaning her up we found an unpleasant surprise ... maggots! She had gotten fecal material trapped in her fur which the flies were attracted to. The hot, humid weather provided the perfect conditions for the fly eggs to hatch and begin burrowing into her skin. Fortunately, we were able to catch it early enough and prevent any permanent damage. This is a surprisingly common occurrence and this weeks hot weather has created an ideal environment for it. So be sure to wipe your bum before going outside!
