We want to give dogs affection because it feels good. We love dogs, we want to share that love with them and it makes us feel good when we do it 🥰BUT…Is the dog enjoying it??? It’s important to check. So how do we do know if the dog wants us to keep going??? Pet them for 2 seconds and then pause to find out ⬇️The dog will give you a clear sign that they want you to keep petting:✅ They turn back to look at you, like Chester does at the beginning of the video.✅ They may give you a nudge. ✅ They might come in closer and push their backside into you like “scratch my butt” 😆✅They push their face into your hand saying “keep going”. Signs that the dog isn’t interested and you should stop:❌ You pause to check and the dog doesn’t give you a sign to keep going, like Chester does the second time I pause.❌ The dog walks away.❌ The dog turns his head away from you.❌ Lip licking, yawning, panting, whale eyes or holding one paw up (these are all displacement signals). The next time you pet a dog, give it a try. Pet them for 2 seconds, stop and pay attention to what their body is telling you 🐶
Want to enjoy off-leash adventures without worrying about your dog running off? 🐾 The secret isn’t just in training—it’s in the bond you build with your dog. Make every moment with your dog fun and engaging. When your pup finds joy and value in being with you, staying close becomes second nature.Let’s create those unbreakable bonds together! 🐶❤️
Your puppy is way more capable than you give them credit for 😃. Training should begin as soon as you bring your new puppy home. Their brains are like sponges, so take advantage! At 4 months old, Amara could ⬇️🐾 Go onto place and into a down🐾 She could stay on place while I take steps away from her and walk around🐾 She understood her release word meant she could come off of place🐾 She felt comfortable enough to put her head down and relax What an awesome starting point! Just think about where your dog could be in a couple months, if you kept up with daily place training👌✨ TIP - when starting to build up longer periods of time on place, do it after your puppy has been exercised and they’re ready for a nap 💤 Also, tether their leash so they can’t pop off 😉
So who is the Walk + Train for? 👇➡️ For the busy pup parent that wants to provide their dog with more than your average walk.➡️ For the dogs that could use some help with their leash skills. Biting at the leash, pulling on leash, focusing on everything but you. ➡️ For the owners that may have a challenging dog and need someone they can trust. Having a dog trainer care for your dog will give you peace of mind. ➡️ For the owner that needs some assistance with basic training because, let’s me just be honest, life is busy. The Walk + Train is an awesome way to elevate your dogs skills and provide them with both a physical and mental workout. Let us take the leash, so you can conquer your busy day 🙌😃
Does your dog immediately go for the toy when you pull it out…nearly taking your hand off??? 😳Creating boundaries around play is something many owners don’t consider.BUT…Here’s why I think I t’s important ⬇️✨ SAFETY - not only for the person playing with the dog, but for any child that may get a hold of that toy. The dog should know, the game doesn’t begin until they hear a command. ✨IMPULSE CONTROL - creating these boundaries is a great way to work on your dogs impulse control. This is a skill that trickles into so many aspects of their life (that’s entirely separate post on its own).✨ LEADERSHIP - this is another place where your role as a leader matters. You say when the game starts and when the game ends. Not the other way around. ✨ MENTAL FULFILLMENT - why play a mindless game, when you can make it a mental workout. Let them use their brains. Encourage them to think and be aware of their actions👌Ready to give it try???
TO THE OWNER WITH A DOG REACTIVE, ANTISOCIAL OR NERVOUS DOG…
Your dog doesn’t need other dog friends in order to live a fulfilling life #isaidwhatisaid
This can be a hard one for people to wrap their head around.
You got a dog and envisioned a life of them running through fields and going on hikes with all their friends….but now your dog doesn’t seem to thrive in that kind of environment.
We can absolutely train and teach our dogs how to feel more comfortable in life, but the truth is, some dogs will never enjoy being around other dogs….and that’s okay ❤️
What ALL dogs need and want…is to spend quality time with their people 😃
If you play, walk, run, hike and do all the things with your dog, they are going to have THE BEST life and the two of you will have a strong relationship because of it 🥰
SOLVING THE LEASH WALKING DILEMMA 🐕🚶🏻♀️
Let’s transform walks into enjoyable experiences for both you and your furry friend!
WE NEED TO START WITH THE “WHY?”
It might be because you’re looking at the leash as a tether, rather than a tool to communicate. Owners often think of the leash as way to keep their dog close by and prevent them from running off.
BUT IT’S SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT 🙌😃
The leash is there to provide clear communication to your dog about what you would and wouldn’t like them to do.
In the video above, Chester is forging ahead of me. BUT, because he understands what the leash means, I can easily guide him back into the position I want.
Dogs that are pulling through the pressure on the leash are doing so because of their oppositional reflex telling them to….because they haven’t been taught otherwise.
If you want to improve your walks, it’s time to learn how to communicate through the leash!
THIS IS WHERE I COME IN 🙋🏻♀️
Let me teach your dog what the leash means through our Walk + Trains or book 1:1 private lessons so we can teach you and your dog ☺️
THE POWER OF PLAY
Play is such an awesome way to not only make you more relevant to your dog, but to help you build a strong relationship with your dog.
If your dog is pulling you towards every person, dog or thing on the walk…it might be because they find their environment more interesting than you.
It’s time to mix things up! Don’t be afraid to play or get goofy. Just go out there and fun 😃
