Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning their diet consists of 70% meat protein. Egg whites contain an abundance of protein while the yolk is a great source of healthy fats, but eggs contain more benefits than just protein! They also contain amino acids that boost vision, digestion, heart function, immunity, pregnancy, and fetal development. Eggs also have large amounts of vitamins that provide energy and antioxidants as well as minerals that promote immune health! While it may be a good treat for your kitty, an egg is not a proper meal and lacks all the nutrients your feline friend needs to thrive. Remember, an active 10lb cat needs an average of 250 calories a day. If you have questions about your cat’s nutrition, give us a call at 519-836-2782.

Who doesn't love treats? 🍎🍕🍟

We know your pet loves treats just as much as you do, and you love to share with them. 🩷💜💙

Remember that treats should only take-up 10% of your pet's diet to prevent malnourishment. Too many treats OR feeding the wrong treats can lead to gastrointestinal illnesses and even toxicity. 😿

Santa helped us out by creating a list of nice treats that can be offered in moderation over the holidays! 🎅

If your pet consumes any of the naughty treats, please give our office a call as soon as possible at (519) 836-2782.

Wishing you and your pets a safe and wonderful holiday season. 🐾💚❤️

Similar to humans, dogs need regular exercise to stay in good and healthy condition. Canines are active animals – especially as many breeds were bred for high activity levels. A lack of exercise can lead to decreased lean muscle strength and weaker bones. Keep your pup healthy by incorporating regular exercise into their lifestyle and don't forget to schedule regular check-ups with us! Contact us at 519-836-2782.

Research concludes that cats cannot have autism; however, there are many behavioral similarities between special-needs cats and humans with autism. Since autism is focused on human behavior, cats cannot be diagnosed, but they sometimes exhibit autism spectrum traits. Examples include becoming obsessed with hunting or chasing certain things, enjoying their alone time, being easily overstimulated, easily spooked by noises or bright lights, and even being overwhelmed by too much attention. If you notice any strange behavior in your kitty, bring them in for a check-up with us so that we can identify if there are any issues affecting your cat’s behavior. Give us a call at 519-836-2782 to schedule an appointment.

Slowly and briefly begin using the toothbrush with the toothpaste in your dog’s mouth. Focus on brushing the outside of your pup’s teeth. Reward them with treats and praise. Progressively increase to longer brushing times as your dog gets comfortable with the process.

Stay current with your dogs' healthcare needs and schedule their appointment by calling 519-836-2782.

To prevent your pup from contracting parvo, it is essential to get them vaccinated. A puppy’s first set of vaccinations happen at 6 weeks old with another two at 9 and 12 weeks. When your dog is brought into our clinic, they will be assessed by us and we will advise you on all follow-up dates. Always look for clinical signs of parvo in your dog, and if you notice symptoms, contact us at 519-836-2782 to book an appointment for diagnosis. Don’t leave it until its too late!

Laser Therapy for Pets: A Safe and Effective Treatment Option

Laser therapy is a non-invasive, pain-free treatment that we use commonly at Guelph Animal Hospital. It uses specific wavelengths of light to pe*****te tissues, stimulate cellular activity, & promote healing. This innovative therapy offers numerous benefits for pets dealing with a variety of conditions, making it a valuable tool in animal healthcare.

How Does Laser Therapy Work?

Laser therapy employs low-level lasers to deliver light energy to targeted tissues. This process enhances cellular function and accelerates the body's natural healing processes. It can:

- **Reduce inflammation** by improving blood flow and lymphatic drainage.
- **Relieve pain** by stimulating the release of endorphins and reducing nerve sensitivity.
- **Speed up tissue repair** by boosting cell metabolism and collagen production.

Common Uses of Laser Therapy in Pets

1. Arthritis and Joint Pain - Helps reduce pain and inflammation in pets with osteoarthritis or degenerative joint diseases.

2. Post-Surgical Recovery - Promotes faster healing of surgical incisions and reduces discomfort.

3. Wound Healing - Accelerates the repair of open wounds, burns, and ulcers.

4. Skin Conditions - Effective for managing hotspots, dermatitis, and other dermatological issues.

5. Muscle and Soft Tissue Injuries - Relieves pain and enhances recovery in sprains, strains, or muscle tears.

6. Dental Issues - Aids in treating gingivitis and other oral conditions.

Benefits of Laser Therapy

-Non-Invasive: Requires no sedation or anesthesia.
- Pain-Free: Pets generally find the treatment soothing and relaxing.
- Quick: Most treatments last 5–20 minutes, depending on the condition.
- Versatile: Suitable for cats, dogs, and even exotic pets.
- Safe and Low-Risk: Minimal to no side effects when used correctly.

What to Expect During a Laser Therapy Session

- Your pet will be made comfortable, either sitting or lying down.
- The veterinarian or technician will use a handheld laser device, moving it over the affected area.
- Pets relax during treatment, as the process is gentle and painless.

Depending on the condition, multiple sessions may be needed to achieve optimal results. Your vet will create a personalized treatment plan for your pet.

Hello friends of GAH!

If you use our webstore, please be advised that they are experiencing shipping delays. Please give yourself an additional 5-7 business days to expect your order.

We also want to let you know that our team has exactly z-e-r-o control over how fast you get your order. So we would really appreciate if you resist the urge to ring our front desk team and express your displeasure. We understand the frustration, but cannot actively do anything to make your order ship sooner!

To avoid frustrations, the best thing is to give yourself time to get stocked up for the Holidays! Delayed deliveries certainly are a trend this holiday season - all the better reason to shop local! We still have a nice selection of holiday treats and toys for your furry friends!

Have a wonderful day!
