Today we wanted to say thank you and goodbye to Dr. Nancy Poremba.
After 3 years of devoted service, Dr. Poremba has decided to explore new opportunities beyond the Guelph Cat Clinic. Her last day with us will be on July 6th.
Throughout her time here, Dr. Poremba provided caring and compassionate care to hundreds of patients and her devotion typically carried over after-hours as well! While she had a particular affinity for seeing kittens, she was also interested in pain management with older kitties.
On her down time, she spear-headed the clinic’s Dungeons and Dragons tournaments and also encouraged comradery on and off the clock.
If you have only seen Dr. Poremba, we have other vets on our staff that would love to meet you and your cat(s); Dr. Isabelle Farly, Dr. Meaghan Bell, Dr. Anne-Marie Germain and Dr. Alison McKeown are all here to provide your kitties with everything they need!
Please join us in extending our sincere appreciation to Dr. Poremba for her dedication and service to our team and in wishing her all the success in his future endeavors.
Please feel free to comment about a moment Dr. Poremba made a difference in your cat’s life - we would love to hear about it 😻!

Please note we are CLOSED tomorrow, Good Friday. We are open for our regular business hours on Saturday and Monday.

It's one of the most popular times of the year for lillies, please keep them away from your cats!

PSA: LILLIES ARE DEADLY FOR CATS!
Easter is a time when we receive flowers from loved ones. Make sure to check your arrangements for lilies - as they are extremely toxic to cats. Even just a brush up against one can lead to kidney failure and at its worst case is fatal.
If you were given a bouquet containing lilies we recommend immediately discarding them.
If you think your cat came into contact with a Lily, please call an emergency vet clinic or Pet Poison Help Line at (855) 764-7661 right away.

03/03/2023

Guelph is expecting 20-30cm of snow accumulation beginning this evening into tomorrow morning. Due to these extenuating circumstances, our clinic will be closed on Saturday March 4th for the safety of our staff and our clients. We will reopen as usual on Monday March 6th at 8am.

If you need food or medication we highly recommend contacting us today to make these arrangements. We plan to remain open until 6pm today. Please call us at 519-821-2287 to make your request.

If your cat is experiencing an emergency during this time, please call Campus Estates Animal Hospital at 519-837-1212.

Alternatively, you may contact the Emergency Clinic of Waterloo Region at 519-650-1617.

Renovations have started!

We apologize in advance to our feline friends for the increased noise during the renovations. It's a bitter-sweet situation although we are sad to be losing our boarding services we are excited for the addition of another exam room and office, as well as an improved isolation suite.

If you are looking for boarding services you can check out Catnap Cottages or call the clinic for recommendations

If your cat comes into contact with any part of a lily, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Although beautiful, Easter lilies are toxic and can be fatal to cats. Keep your cat safe this holiday by placing these flowers in areas they can't access or by re-gifting them to a cat-free household. For more information on poisonous plants and other hazards, visit https://bit.ly/3CPLkf6

If you are one of the lucky people receiving a bouquet today, please take a minute to check what flowers are present. Every part of the lily is toxic, including the water it is sitting in! If you think your cat has come into contact with any part of a lily, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

Happy Valentine's Day! If you received flowers today, think twice if you were given lilies to ensure they don't come into contact with cats.

Lilies are extremely toxic to cats and eating any part of the lily – flowers, leaves, stem or pollen – is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS and can cause kidney damage and even death.

On behalf of the Guelph Cat Clinic staff, we hope you and your family are all doing well and continuing to persevere during this pandemic. We wanted to touch base with you to give you an idea on our clinic reopening plans. As of right now we are remaining open for curbside drop off and pick up services only and currently do not have a reopening date set.
Despite the fact that we have entered into stage 3 of Ontario’s reopening plan and most of our clients are vaccinated we have many constraints in our way. Our clinic’s layout is quite small and our exam rooms do not allow for appropriate physical distancing for the duration of an appointment.
We are evaluating scenarios that allows for clients to safely come inside the building with a limited capacity, but until then, to maintain safety and integrity of our business, we will continue to operate under curbside protocol. Please remember that when you are approaching the door for drop off or pick up to wear your mask to protect yourself as well as our staff members.
Finally, we understand many cat food items have been placed on a back order. If your cat’s food has been subjected to a back order please email us at [email protected] so that we can advise you on alternate diets in a timely manner. Remember, we still offer our web store that allows you to have food delivered to your door or in-clinic pick up! https://www.myvetstore.ca/guelphcatclinic
We sincerely thank you for your patience during this time.
Take Care,
Guelph Cat Clinic

Dear Clients of the Guelph Cat Clinic,

We have an incredibly bittersweet announcement to make – Dr. Jocelyn Maggs will be retiring at the end of May this year after an astounding 36 years working as a veterinarian.

Dr. Maggs founded the Guelph Cat Clinic in 1995 after being a partner of the Guelph Animal Hospital since 1988. The first location was at Suffolk street and Yorkshire street, then the clinic shared space with the Guelph Animal Hospital for a few years. The current location on Surrey Street was formerly a naturopathic health clinic that Dr. Maggs transformed into a fully functional vet clinic and boarding facility. She was the owner of the clinic until she sold it to Dr. MacGregor in 2019.

With her speciality in feline medicine and behaviour, clients from Guelph and all across Ontario have come to see her for help with their cats. We are so happy to know she will spend her days in retirement gardening, visiting the cottage and exploring the country (of course depending on the COVID situation) in her fancy new trailer! She will be deeply missed by our staff and the thousands of patients that come to see her for her loving care and expertise! If your cat exclusively saw Dr. Maggs for care, note that Dr. MacGregor, Dr. Farly and our new veterinarian (announcement coming soon on that) are all excited to provide the same care and dedication Dr. Maggs did for your feline friends.

Dr. Maggs send her best wishes to her long time clients and their wonderful cats. She is sad she can’t say goodbye to all of you in person, but she wishes you all the best!

If you would like to give Dr. Maggs your regards, or express your good wishes, feel free to email [email protected] and the staff will forward your comments to her. You can also mail a card to the clinic at 15 Surrey Street West Unit 4 in Guelph. We wish Dr. Maggs all the best and we appreciate all her hard working in founding and establishing the Guelph Cat Clinic!
