๐Ÿฅถ MAJOR TEMP DROP BEGINNING TONIGHT. With the upcoming drop in temperature starting tonight and through the weekend, we wanted to share this great blanketing guide and help you decide, "to blanket the horses, or to not blanket the horses"!

Also as a reminder, when the temperatures drop, horses tend to not drink as much water. To help avoid any potential colic, we strongly recommend serving up some good ole' "sweet tea" water for your horses, as well as soaking their grain in water! Simply add a solid handful of your sweetest grain to your horse's water buckets, let that marinate, and tada "sweet tea" water! These are great ways to entice them to keep drinking water in colder temps, and continue to stay hydrated. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธโ„๏ธโ˜ƒ๏ธ

With Great sadness we have to announce the passing of Hope today. "A little bit of Hope" aka Hopie.
She was my friend, partner in crime and co instructor. She loved to do lessons, go for trail rides, team Pen, participate in horse shows and always up for a good game of "What time is it Mr. Wolf". She would make the best faces when being groomed and loved the attention.
We were blessed to have her in our lives for 22 years. I believe she was in her early thirties.
Rest in peace Hopie. I will love you always. ๐Ÿ’—

A great reminder with the warmer weather coming this week. ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ๐Ÿ–๐ŸŽ

Horses can acclimate to hot and humid weather conditions; however, air temperature and relative humidity can affect your horseโ€™s ability to cool themselves.

It is recommended to avoid (or use caution when) riding or exercising a horse when the combined air temperature (in Fahrenheit) and relative humidity (%) surpass 150. For example, if the temperature is predicted to be 92 F with 69% relative humidity, the combination of the two is 161.

When the air temperature + relative humidity is less than 130, horses are very effective at cooling themselves. Between 130 and 150, a horseโ€™s ability to cool themselves is decreased. When the combination is greater than 150, a horseโ€™s ability to cool themselves is greatly reduced, and if the combination is greater than 180, conditions could become fatal if the horse is stressed.
