Ready for his forever home! ACE has been in a marvellous foster home, where he has been pampered and spoiled, made friends with a little dog, and had lots of room to roam and play. (the video below is from earlier, when he was still at the rescue). But his foster has serious health issues, and needs to pass the baton on to his new family.

Ace is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go. He is fastidiously clean in his habits, playful and funny, and loves nothing more than a good cuddle - unless it's a good nap! He's an easygoing guy, who would be a terrific addition to any family. He is about a year and a half old, and he's a special guy - he has polydactyl feet!

He'd be great with kids, other cats, and with careful introductions, with the family dog. If you think you may be Ace's people, we'd love to hear from you! Please reach out via facebook, messenger, or email, and let's talk! [email protected]

It's that time of the year again - time for a winter fundraising drive. Though our operation has been scaled back, we are still caring for a group of "special needs" cats. Most of them have ongoing medical needs, and of couse all have to be fed and cared for on a daily basis. See details under each photo.

We are also still working with partners in the rescue world, and helping out as we can, within the limitations of our resources. We currently have a kitten in quarantine here, at the request of the Municipality of Dysart et. al. (see photo below)

If you can help keep our charity's bank account in the black so we can manage ongoing care for this crew, we'd very much appreciate it! Charitable donation receipts will be issued when you donate via any of these methods:

https://www.thecatsofpaintlake.ca/donate

through Canada Helps at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-cats-of-paint-lake/

through PayPal Giving Fund at https://www.paypal.com/ca/fundraiser/charity/4529774

If you do not require a receipt, a donation can also be made via e-transfer to [email protected], or through a purchase or gift card made at PetValu stores in our region such as Paulmac's Pet Food , PetValu Haliburton, Bracebridge or Huntsville. We can pick up donations left at these locations.

Thank you for your continued support!

UPDATE: Skye and baby Sunny went to a new home this week! It's a foster-to-adopt placement, but we're pretty confident they will be formally adopted soon - pending proper introductions to the family dog.
😺😺🐢

This little guy and his mama are almost ready for their forever family. Both are fastidiously clean, even the wee lad has never had an accident outside of the litter box, which is pretty impressive!

Skye has become very friendly and cuddly, loves laps, and has a decided preference for females, though she readily accepts attention from the men too.

A Foster to adopt arrangement could also be discussed, for one or both of these darlings.

Please get in touch if you can open your home to these sweet kitties!

Ace is ready for adoption!

This funny, friendly guy has now been fully vetted and is ready for his new forever home. He's had his shots he's been neutered and some work has been done on his polydactyl feet to keep him safe from harm. This lad had lots of extra toenails!

He's pretty laid back, loves his sleep, and is friendly to all people and animals that we've seen so far. He's lived with other cats and dogs, and he's just as sweet as can be. He's a lap cat in the making.

Meanwhile he's also a young healthy male, with lots of curiosity. He is beautiful, well muscled and as clean as a whistle. He keeps his space neat and likes his litter box good and clean! (And will notify us in no uncertain terms that he would like something done about it if we don't do it quickly enough!)

There's nothing he loves more than a good cuddle and scratch, unless it is a ball on a string and someone to play with him. Ace would love a family of his own again. He'd be great with children of all ages, or maybe someone's total sucky boy.

He's such a great guy, everyone who meets him just loves him. Ace is ready to offer his endearing ways, head butts and crazy sleep positions to you.

If you think you could be Ace's new people, or would like to ask any questions about him... perhaps meet him in person... we'd love to hear from you!

Send us a message via Facebook, or email [email protected].

We haven't done a lot of fundraising for a while, simply because our operations had to scale waaaaayyyyy back. So that means our funds are quickly dwindling away. And right now we really need to replenish the bank account quite urgently.

Ace (seen here snuggling with uber-volunteer Aaffien May) and his pal Skye are scheduled to go for their neuter and spay procedures next week. Our recent vet bills for these two, as well as Skye and her breech-born baby, approached $1,000, and that pretty much cleared out our account. Next week's veterinary costs will still need to be covered, as well as other expenses for food, and the next round of vet costs for Skye and little Whats-his-name (name still TBA, but we've had some fabulous suggestions!!)

I know it's been a tough couple of years for a lot of people. It's definitely been a tough one for the animals who rely on us to care for them. But please, if you can help out a little towards these costs, we'd be very grateful.

Donations can be made via our website at
https://www.thecatsofpaintlake.ca/donate

Or via Canada Helps at

Or via Facebook - click below

If you don't require a Charitable Donation Tax Receipt, you may also send e-transfers to [email protected] (no password required).

Thanks everyone, for your loyal support. We can always count on you to back up animals in need.

This little guy just opened his baby blues, and now, if I don't miss my guess, we're going to be in for a bit of a rollercoaster over the next few weeks as this big boy begins to explore his world. Single kittens are rare, but at least this wee lad will have lots of new friends to show him the ropes. Uncle Peeta is waiting impatiently for his chance to play with the new baby...

Little Dude just opened his eyes!!! Video to follow...

Now he really needs a name, and we've been procrastinating deciding upon one. Any name suggestions? Please add them to the comments!

If you've been following along, little Skye had a difficult birth to a single kitten. But that little guy is now thriving and growing like a mad w**d... And just this moment he opened his eyes and looked at us for the first time. (Insert girly squeal here)!!

I have a feeling he's going to be a handful. Peeta The Wonder cat is, of course, fascinated by the baby, now that he has taken notice of him. A new little protoge! Heaven help us.

Stand by for more details and photos.

Welcome to the world, little one!
Sweet little Skye just had a single kitten. Fortunately we were here, because this was a breech birth, and we had to intervene to help her, extracting the kitten manually. She was quite concerned, had been in labor for most of the afternoon, and agitated with it, like she knew something wasn't quite right. The kitten needed help to start breathing, but doing fine, and mama is on top of it now.

This may be her only baby, but we're on kitten watch all the same, in case she has another one still in there. From the size of her, she probably only had one or two kittens, and that's a good thing because she is so tiny herself!

Stay tuned for more information and updates!

Ace is scheduled for his neuter surgery on September 19th, and then this funny, affectionate weirdo will be ready for adoption.

He's about a year and a half old, gentle, friendly, curious and cuddly. He is polydactyl, which means he has extra toes so his front feet look like he's wearing mittens. He is very clean and tidy.

Ace would love a home with other cats to play with, places to run and climb, and especially - cozy places to sleep. He loves his sleep, as the photo demonstrates.

If you are interested in learning more about Ace, or in meeting him, we'd love to hear from you. You won't regret it, he's such a great guy!

FOSTER URGENTLY NEEDED for Ace, a 1+ yr old polydactyl male. He's sweet as can be, affectionate and gentle. He's clean and fastidious in his habits, uses a litter box without any problem... But he's also a high energy young male, currently unneutered, who needs to gallop around a little. We can't give him that at the rescue. As you'll see from the blurry photos... I could barely get a shot because he just wants to come and play with us so badly.

First examination and vaccinations are scheduled for Monday, after which, we'd really love to have this fellow placed in a short-term foster. His neuter surgery is being scheduled as soon as possible. If you've got a space that you're willing to host this fellow in for a couple of weeks or more, we'd love to hear from you. If you'd like further information about him before you make a decision to offer help, please get in touch here or email [email protected].

Thanks everyone!

I know we said we couldn't accept any new intakes due to our uncertain shelter space. But sometimes we just can't help ourselves. These three needed a safe place urgently, and none of the other shelters or animal welfare organizations were able to take them.

Please, friends, no assumptions and no judgments. These were much-loved animals, but their people couldn't take them where they were going.

That said, meet Ace, Sky, and Blu! These little sweethearts are about a year and a half old, gentle, sweet, and curious, despite their understandable nervousness. Little Blu is also expecting kittens!

Thank you to the lovely volunteer driver and her daughter, who delayed their dinner plans so they could transport this trio to us. They are settling in peacefully, and the feline CoPL crew have been keeping them company. Sweet little Marigold (aka "Wigglet", the WobbleCat) has taken it upon herself to be a welcoming committee of one! The girls seemed comforted by this odd but similar looking stranger.

We will need to raise some funds to get all of these guys to the vet for assessments, vaccinations, and spay/neuter surgeries. If anyone would like to contribute to their veterinary costs, we always appreciate your support. We will also be requesting donations of food to replenish our supplies, as well as good-quality kitten food for Blu and her coming brood!

THANK YOU EVERYONE! A VOLUNTEER DRIVER HAS BEEN FOUND. Our community of animal lovers never ceases to amaze me. Thanks to everyone who offered to help.

Volunteer needed urgently for a mission of mercy. These three sweethearts need to be picked up in Bracebridge and delivered to Dorset, today! Does anyone have an hour or two to spare to help these little guys out?

Honey Update: A HUGE thank you to everybody who donated toward Honey's veterinary care! Today he is at the vet having his broken leg partially amputated...and while they're at it, they're going to also perform his neuter procedure.

He'll have a couple of months of recovery time, and then he should be ready to live a full, healthy and happy life. He will be available for adoption, so if you're interested, please get in touch with us. He is the sweetest, most cuddly guy, and gets along with other cats. Even during all of this painful and scary process, he has been a true gentleman.

Thank you! Thank you and thank you again. This is the outcome we were hoping for and we couldn't have done it without all of you.

Meet Honey
This sweet boy turned up injured at the home of one of our volunteers. She has been caring for him and feeding him for some time, and finally earned his trust enough to get close and see the damage to his leg. She got him contained and off to the vet, where they assessed his wound, and gave him a long-acting antibiotic injection.

Unfortunately, there's a lot more to the story. At a subsequent follow-up visit, they discovered via x-ray that there is actually a break in the bone near the joint. In addition, there is inflammation lingering infection and the cartilage is damaged, so the joint is currently rubbing bone on bone. A painful injury as you can imagine. Because of the location of the break, they do not believe that the joint can be pinned and healed. Their best recommendation is amputation of that leg.

We need to raise the funds to manage his necessary care, is estimated to be over $1,500. This amount does not include the $450 that we have already spent and his future needs which will include a neuter procedure and vaccinations, when he is recovered enough to receive them.

Funds are tight, so the only other options available to us are to bind the leg and hope for the best, or euthanasia. Neither of these options are anything we would like to consider.

We need your help. Honey needs our help. If you are able to offer a donation toward his care, we'd really appreciate it.

Donations can be made through our website https://www.thecatsofpaintlake.ca/donate , via Canada Helps at https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-cats-of-paint-lake/

Both of the above options will provide a charitable tax receipt immediately.

You don't require a tax receipt, You may also send an e-transfer to [email protected], or contact Haliburton Veterinary at 705-457-2087, and ask them to add a donation directly to his account.

Thanks again everybody.

UPDATE: Chance has been adopted!

Meet Chance
This sweet guy came to us from a feral colony, with his sister Sassy, and big brother Shadow (Bonus points if you know where those names came from!)

Chance is a medium haired blond tabby, about a year old, and soft as a kitten. He is small in stature but big in personality. He's chatty, loves attention, and loves to play, especially with other cats. He's still shy, and needs some patience and some quality one-on-one time to help him finish the transition from feral to friendly. He can be handled and petted, but he's not fond of being picked up, and tends to sq**rt away.

We are looking for a patient adopter, foster or foster-to-adopt arrangement for him, to get him out of the shelter and into a loving home as he deserves.

If you would like to work with sweet chance, and open your home to him, we'd love to hear from you. Please send us a message here, or email [email protected] for more information.
