Uncle Chris is (cautiously) back to cat grooming after an extended time off due to an injury resulting from a severe cat bite.

Here’s the deal: if you think your cats head might spin in circles while the lights flicker and lightening flashes… please refer to your trusted vet for an appropriate sedative or anesthesia grooming. I’m brave, not crazy.

All cats must have up to date vaccines on file with us. If your cat is unable to be vaccinated please refer to your trusted vet for grooming.

I love working with my feline clients and I have so many wonderful cats on the books I am glad to be back to cat services! I would love to meet and work with you and your feline friend!

Small businesses everywhere are struggling with the staggering and ever increasing costs associated with processing electronic transactions.

Going forward there will be a 3.75% surcharge on ONLY credit card payments, and we will no longer be able to accept AMEX.

Can you believe that in July 2024 our credit card transaction fees exceeded the wage of a full time employee for a full week of work!

As always debit payments and e transfers are great options at no additional charge.

A few of my local families have expressed interest in a whippet and Ruckus is a great starter whippet as he’s already mostly trained! This is a great way to get into dog shows or get your kids into Junior Showmanship!

Ruckus is available on coownership with Comar to a home interested in dog sports or conformation shows. He is a lovely young fellow who should have no trouble in the conformation ring.

Alternately he is available to a family within 3 hours of Haliburton, ON who would be willing to make him available for me to show a few weekends a year.

Ruckus 6 months old and absolutely loves his life. He is happy, playful and very stable. He is a tad shy at first but is getting more outgoing every day!

Ruckus is a busy boy with big feelings who needs a family with a sighthound soul. Ruckus would like a family with kids old enough to play and engage in his daily routine. Ruckus loves kids.

Ruckus is crate trained, potty trained, and doing excellent with his basic obedience. He is clever and very quick to catch on.

Ruckus is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and registered with the Canadian Kennel Club. He has normal OFA scores on his hearing and eye health, and a normal score on cardiac auscultation. Ruckus comes with a written health guarantee and lifelong breeder support.

✨📣 CAT SERVICES UPDATE 📣✨

To all of our feline friends and their families —

Due to a severe bite requiring hospitalization, and time off work for six weeks, Chris has temporarily suspended all cat grooming services for the next two months.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause during this much needed downtime. If you have urgent grooming needs please call Emily at the shop and we will work with you to find a solution… we are not going to leave you stranded and have a small network of excellent referral cat groomers in Ontario.

Chris looks forward to returning to work hands-on and helping you take the best care of your furry friend. While he is healing he will be in the shop most days, so don’t hesitate to stop and say hello!

For our cottage clients: welcome back! We’re excited to see you and your pets again!
As you return to summer life please remember that you need to brush your dog every single time it dries after swimming… bonus points for running a wide tooth comb through them when they’re wet. 🐶

With dogs in the water constantly we encourage you to consider a shorter hair cut to avoid a dramatic uptake in maintenance needs, but if you’d like to keep that hair and let your pet swim we would love to help by seeing your pet more frequently through the summer and offering brushing lessons to help you achieve success.
Pro Tip: we offer brush out only sessions… great for a thorough brush out every other week to help make home maintenance a breeze!

For double coated breeds this is the prime time to add our Deshed package to remove as much of the ready-to-shed undercoat as possible. This magic combination of a specialty shampoo and conditioner, high velocity water and air, and some good old elbow grease will dramatically reduce the shedding around the house and it will help your pet stay as cool as possible.

– Littermate Syndrome

When faced with a litter of puppies all snuggled up or playing with each other, we as humans may feel bad about separating them by adopting just one. And when it comes to kittens, two IS better than one! However, adopting puppies in pairs can lead to behavioral challenges due to something called littermate syndrome.

Puppies adopted together may become overly dependent on each other, often at the cost of bonding with their new humans. Puppies need to learn how to be independent, confident adult dogs, and should look to their humans for an answer on how they should react to new things instead of their littermate.

According to the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, common behaviors associated with littermate syndrome include:

- Separation anxiety when away from their littermate
- Fear of new people, animals, objects, or experiences
- Reactivity when on a leash
- Fighting habits when they reach sexual maturity around 6 months of age
- Aggression or nervousness in the more dominant littermate; timidity and withdrawal in the less dominant one

If you do adopt two puppies together, make sure that each puppy gets plenty of alone time with you and other humans. That means walking them separately, feeding them apart, and playing with them solo. Training should take place one-on-one so the puppy isn’t distracted by their littermate.
