Sorry for the radio silence over here for those who are waiting on Salmon Faverolles, my first hatch of the season didn’t go to well due to incubator issues, I’m not a very reliable hand turner lol but I have two incubators currently running so am expecting 🐣 in two weeks and have enough excess coming in now to offer 🥚🥚

I’ll be going through my waiting list in the coming days but feel free to shoot me a message!

03/11/2023

Set a batch of Faverolles 🥚 last night to check fertility.
Currently getting 2-3 🥚 a day from my lovely ladies.
Shoot me a message if you’re looking to add some of these goofy fluffers to your coop this season.

Magicfly / Janoel hack to double capacity.
Make it hold 20 large eggs instead of 9!

Yes this means you have to turn them manually but the wood blocks make that EASY, just tilt the whole unit 2-3 times a day and lay it flat on day 18, they’ll hatch right in the egg flat standing upright which seems to make it easier for them to unzip and makes clean up a breeze.

I love my cheap little incubators!

Couple notes:
-Cut a flat to fit
-Remove the turner post or you’ll have to leave the space of 4 eggs (capacity reduced to 16)
-I like to keep a towel wrapped around my incubators so they don’t have to work so hard to keep heat in my chilly basement
-Dry hatching always works better for me
-an external thermometer/hygrometer is also recommended

One of my Favaucanas sometimes lays these beautiful deep sage green eggs! They’re lovely, I usually get light minty green eggs out of them (egg on the left) so I love the odd surprise 🙂

Setting up for year 4, these beauties have been separated as the best of my stock to selectively breed with size, body type and coloring in mind to better my entire flock for next year.

Salmon Faverolles probably have the most exhaustive list of possible “flaws” from a show perspective, from pointed tails to the positioning of the toes they face a lot of scrutiny!!

Built myself a hatcher 😁
Cost me $25 and a bit of junk lying around (thanks to whoever threw the plexiglass in the ditch) hoping to keep my incubators clean and working while rotating batches to finish here.

Materials:
A styrofoam cooler, I had one from LeBrun Seafoods fish delivery (amazing!)
Lamp kit from Canadian tire
Usb computer fan from Amazon
Plexiglass from the ditch
25w light bulb
Bathroom adhesive caulk
Metal lid from a large jar (water reservoir)
Hardware cloth

Will be testing it out in the next few days, hopefully I don’t burn down my house 🤞🏼🤞🏼

These Salmon Faverolles chicks are starting to show their colors. 💙💜

A cockerel (male) left and a pullet (female) right for comparison.

This is typically when the pullets would go to their new homes (2 weeks old).

Why do people fancy faverolles so much?
Many reasons!! Besides eggs.... Their temperament, their goofyness, they LOVE people, they are like little lost puppies that harass you, talk your ear off and will steal your dinner right out of your hands haha.

Here’s what happens when I walk out the back door. I’m not calling them and I don’t have treats, but they come running, every time, it’s pretty cute ☺️

Favaucanas.. the doodles of poultry lol
These are the result of mixing my Wheaten Ameraucana hens with a Faverolles rooster.

They are essentially Easter Eggers, a mix that lays those lovely minty eggs. But as both are “wheaten” coloring and sexable by color, they retain the ability to be sexed early even as a mix.

They vary a bit in coloring but the females are always some shade of beige and the males black. Some of them end up with 5 toes and some 4 some 5 on one foot and 4 on the other lol
